As it is now Im working crappy hours at Best Buy and Ive been searching High and low for another Part time Postition. Now my good freind at BB left , and is now working as a manager at the sports authority. Now at BB he was the only full time. That is until they transfered some other guy from Virginia into our department who all of a sudden was full time. Which was unfair to me and another person who were hoping to get a full time spot sometime soon. Now I spoke to him today and he tells me hes going back to school dropping down to part time status. Now my freind who worked with me now at the sports autority, told me that they were hiring for part timers. SO of course looking for more money I harped on it. Now Im also good freind with his GF at work. We went out for a drink tonight at the bar acroos from work. She was talking to him and I told her to tell his to put my application on hold unitl I fond out what is going on with this fulltime spot opening up. He got really pissed off saying something like I bent over backwards to get you in. WE are hiring now and need people now. Then got really angry and said over the phone to his GF to forget the whole thing and he wants nothing to do with me again. Needless to say I felt like a piece of shit. I never ment to piss him off but aparently I did. So I told hos GF that I appoligize and Ill do what it takes to work foe him since he went this far and as he said " the company spent alot of money getting me in" The more I thought about it tonight I figured yea I was wrong to say put my application on hold. But do you think exagerated a bit about the way he felt? After all he was home sick with strept throught I figure I will take take job no matter if I get the full time position after all and perhaps work there seasonal. It will bee good money to pay off a few bills and extra money for Xmas. Still I feel bad about telling him to put my application on hold. I guess after all the work he did to get me in that was the last thing you would want to hear. I still think he got upset over nothing and could have handled it in a better manner. Like saying " I cant do that. I honeslty put in alot of effort to get you in here" or something like that.

Well they spent money on a background check and a drug test. Maybe even a shirt or two. Not sure what they cost, so you may have a point.

the reaction of this guy was not too proffessional or civil. maybe he's got pressures or maybe he has a coke habit and you're losing him a 'finders fee'?

a common drug screen is prob around 50-100 bucks for an employer, and shirts, those are so cheap they cant cost more than 5 a piece, and they always already have those, they dont order them just for you. background check services are usually subscription, so nothing extra there either, and if they did, it cant be much. especially to a gyp joint like sports athourity, they try to charge 10 bucks for a damn basketball net up here

Yeah, that is a bit harsh, although people react to things like this differently. I'm a pretty calm cat, so I wouldn't have flown off the handle, yet I'd still be pretty pissed. However this is a situation that can go either way, depending on the person's mentality. If he is a pretty aggresive person, then I can see him automatically going an angery route.

Just my opinion.

I can understand your friends frustration. Look at it from his perspective for a moment. He's new there and trying to make a name for himself, probably trying to develop respect. He vouches for you to get in and he does, then you try to stop it. It's understandable from that view to see where he's coming. Though as the others said, it was a bit harsh the way he reacted, but also understandable.

I haven't worked in retail for a while, and for good reason. Like Furie said, it's much better to have a job with a company, a pension, and benefits. I tried working in retail about a year or so ago for some extra cash and I came to remember all the things I hated about it. The majority of which is management. They're mostly immature, unprofessional, and not capable to do the job that they do. Save yourself the headaches and look for an office job or something other than retail. I mean, it's in some peoples blood and I give them credit for it. But for me I've found much more satisfaction working in offices. I mean there's bullshit and immature management people in every job, but it's on different levels. Plus the pay is better. At least I've found it to be anyway.
