Social Security, or a drivers license. Today I was coming home from work. I saw something interesting coming down the road so I got out my camera and pulled into the gas station literally around the block from me. As I am sitting there with my foot on the brake, some old fuck decides to rear end me. Now I don't know about you but Id be pretty pissed off if someone hit me. I got out of my car very pissed. He claims he "didn't see me" as he was looking for an available pump. What I don't honestly understand is how in gods fucking name don't you see a car in front of you? Then it gets better. He's looking at my car and telling me since there's no damage there is no reason to call the cops. Something about that didn't sound right. At this point I got my mother to come down and help me out since my nerves were fried. At this point he's begging me not to call the cops, telling me he has enough problems with them already from previous accidents. I yelled back at him and asked him then why the hell are you even driving? He's going on and on telling me how hard it is to find car insurance too. Now as I'm waiting, he thinks he would get smart with me and tries to take off! Wrong move asswipe!!! Now you got your self into more trouble. I stepped in front of his car and told him to get back in the car turn on the AC and relax. My mother comes rolling in and basically tells the guy he's a fucking idiot for driving. Oh yea and his wife is also in the car giving both my Mother and I a sop story of how she's in the "Cripple chair" Finally the guys asks what will it take for you to not call the cops. My mother tells him to give 100 bucks to cover any internal damage. He tells us he doesn't have it .So I get on the phone and call 911. I told the operator that Ive been in a very mild accident however the suspect is trying to leave the scene. She tells me to hang up and call the Highway Patrol. Now as Im on the phone I watch him pull out his wallet and count 300 dollars worth of 20's. I get off the phone and he hands me the money. Now I was very respectful and I told him to kindly stay off the road from now on, you should not be driving. he tells me hes been driving for 50 years and he has no other choose. I'm like no you hit me, you have problems with the police because of other accidents, and you are having a hard time finding car insurance, you shouldn't be driving. With that I said good day and drove away pissed off.

Let me get this straight. You were in a minor accident in which there was no damage -- the kind of accident that most decent people might exchange insurance information over, but not make a claim. Rather than shaking hands and walking away, you extort $300 out of an old man so that you don't call the police/report to the insurance company. Nice.

And what does Social Security have to do with this? Oh right. That's probably where the money you and mommy extorted from him came from.

sounds as fishy as modonna's vagina.

really sounds like the guy was driving w/o a license and/ or insurance and might even have a warrent.

when you think about it if he didn't see Ag's car then what chance does he have seeing a kid in the street?

it wasn't right to take his money. it sounds more like you should have called the police and have them come and write up a report. if he didn't have his paperwork or was driving illegally then the law would have punished him... which doesn't mean he wouldn't drive again

and 'calm down' a bit... road rage serves no good purpose. most times it's what and why they call it an 'accident'...

I think if I called the cips this guy wouldnt be driving anymore and would of had to pay WAY over 100 bucks , loose his car, have his wife die on him ECT ECT. The site of some old guy going to jail isnt pretty, and isnt worth my tax dollars to have him locked up for a day. Yes taking money was wrong, however its not going to be pocket cash, its going right toarwds my insurance for the 11th of this month. I hope this guy learns his lesson and gets off the road. There are plenty of 1.50 bus rides which will pick you up from your house and take you door to door where ever you want to go.. Dont risk a life to get from point A to B.<p> Oh and the thing that caught my attention was a caravan of like 20 some odd trucks from the electric company comming down the road. I knwo realllllll interesting.

by taking his $$$ you basically enabled him to stay on the road. what makes you think "this" accident i going to turn him around, as apposed to the others hinted at?

well by the time you will be as old as the foggies in FLA there will no longer BE social security

if someone has their faculties in check i think they should still be allowed to drive BUT i think most elderly people are VERY dangerous drivers

most of them dont put their turn signals on or watch for people crossing the walk

they drive under the limit on the turnpike- YOU DONT GO 30mph in a 55

i think its honorable when an elderly person volunteers their liscence back to the state- its a loss of freedom BUT it is noble

In this situation I would have called the cops. I don't know how your mother came to the figure of $100 for "internal damage" either that means physical damage to you or your car but $100 sounds way low. If there was a chance of real injury you'd need to file a report the right way.

You shouldn't have let him go for $100, what if he ends up killing someone. He could be driving to a Farmer's Market and plow down a few peds.

the tells me hes been driving for 50 years and he has no other choose

He does have other choices. He could choose not to put other people in danger by going behind the wheel.

Sometimes getting out of the car for something that minor is more trouble than it's worth. Being rear ended is much different than someone tapping into the back of your car in traffic, or while parking or basically doing less than 10 miles an hour trying to find an open pump. Bumpers serve a purpose.

I got into a minor fender bender with a really old fella in Asbury Park, New Jersey. We pulled our cars to the side of the road, yet rather than squabble about whose fault it was, we both agreed it was prudent to simply get the hell out of Asbury Park, New Jersey!!

I had an old bitch rearend my car while I was at a red light. She tried to leave the scene to, but I was injured! My neck and back are still all fucked up from it. I had to get out of my car (with my injury) and sit on the hood of her car so she couldn't drive away. You could imagine what that looked like.

My parents came and called 911. I had to be strapped into the ambulance and brought to the hospital. I had no damage to my car, but I had damage to my body. No amount of money she could offer me (not that she even did) would have helped at all.

Ugh-- every time I have to go to PT, or my back freaks out on me and spasms up while I am just laying in bed, or I am weight lifting in the gym and have to stop because of my back, I curse that old bitch for hitting me. I have no sympathy when it comes to assholes trying to leave the scenes of accidents.

I agree with you Kat. The woman should be held accountable just like everyone else on the road, including the guy who hit ag. Everyone should be held to the same standards.

ag, I'm not going to blame you for taking the money. But I do think you should've called the cops anyway. If you didn't you should've atleast asked to see his insurance and lisence before you left just to make sure.

i would think not... as long as both parties reach an agreement they can choose to not get the Insurance company involved.

The problem is if you do not fill out a Police Report and later on you are suffering from possible back pain or headaches then there is no evidence there was an accident. I'm not sure how an Insurance Company will react if 'let's say' you go to them a week or two after the accident and with a Police Report because you experienced a 'delayed' injury. They might give you a hard time about it but you still have the Police Report so they may have to honor the coverage.
