View Full Version : Star Wars: Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith

With the recent release of the REAL Star Wars on DVD, the hype machine for Episode III was turned over and starting to pick up speed. The first Teaser Trailer will be out soon (description already online (http://www.theforce.net/episode3/)) and the first poster is now online:
http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/epiiibanner.jpg
Much better that the Episode II banner, I guess they liked the Anakin/Vader shadow idea of the Episode I teaser poster
http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/starwarsepisode1anakinshadow.jpg
Oh yeah, Spoiler Alert, Vader is actually Anakin Skywalker!
Those of you who watched the Episode III preview on the Trilogy DVD set, didn't Hayden as Vader look weird? Like it was a really good Vader costume, but still not the REAL vader costume. Something a SW fan would have.

Pretty cool poster, I wonder if I can bring my expectations low enough to not cringe at any point of the movie. I know everyone thinks the second one sucked, but I was able to tolerate the love scenes because I knew they were going to suck. And God did they. But the rest of the flick didn't bother me, and there were some pretty damn cool parts. I just wish Lucas knew how to direct actors to get a decent performance rather than relying completely on them.

There is just no way that this will be a good movie.
GL has proved to us that he has no desire to make the movies that fans really want.
I predict that the videogame will be better than the movie.

The teaser poster for the Episode I was brilliant, even if I eventually came to the conclusion that telling the story of a lil' Darth Vader was a bad idea.

Is it me or does that poster look Photoshopped?
It could be the real one.. I don't know.. but Anakin's face and the Star Wars Logo w/ the date looks kind of cropped in..

I'm sure the face is cropped in, all the actors are photoshopped into the movie itself, it's all fake.
I think this poster is real, not a fan made fantasy.

I just hope that one month before it's released they change the name to "Return of the Sith."
Why would they do something stupid like that?
The only reason why they changed the name of Revenge of the Jedi is because Jedi Knights do not seek revenge so the title would be a farce.
Revenge of the Sith is the best title out of the 1st three.

What of the Rebellion? If the Rebels have obtained a complete technical reading of this station, it is possible, however unlikely, they might find a weakness and exploit it.
Any attack made by the Rebels against this station would be a useless gesture, no matter what technical data they have obtained. This station is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we use it.

Agreed - I actually think it's the second best title in the entire series, behind "Empire," and hope that's a good omen.

update to last post (http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace/about/news/news20041020.html)
...However, members of starwars.com Hyperspace can see it before then as the full teaser will make its world-wide debut on starwars.com the early afternoon (U.S.) of November 4.
so, you can pay $40 to see the teaser a few hours before it's on TV that night, or wait a few more minutes and find one of the 1000s of mirror sites that it will be posted on.
It will probably be on the free part of starwars.com by the next day anyway. It's an advertisement, why would they want it hidden?

Todd has sent in an annotated version of the Episode III poster which he believes contains some hidden characters:
The Teaser is a collage that has several characters (The Emperor, Grievous, Boba Fett) in it. People are not seeing it .... so I made a screenshot to help (above left).
I don't see it. And why would they hide 2 Darth Vaders when it's not a secret and one other is plainly there?
I wonder how many "hidden" things they'll find in the Teaser Trailer next week.

All 6 Episodes are about Anakin/Vader. This movie is about him becoming Vader so yes, he has a major role.
I'm sure most of his fights will be as Anakin because fighting in that suit is hard, and doing it with CGI will look gay, too gay for even lucas to try and pull off for more than a quick shot or two.

That might possibly save the entire series as we know it.
I'm happy for many reasons. Most of all, Wookies in battle.
Second of all, we get to see some dark stuff worthy of the sith title.
Finally, just so you guys know, Anakin is Lord Vader before the armor ever was involved. So when we hear those clips, they're just sound bytes put together in that order to make it sound better.

The armor is what keeps him alive after the whole lava battle.
When Anakin is made a sith lord (before the final fight with Obi-Wan), his sith name is Lord Darth Vader, much like other sith lords have "Darth" case in point Darth Maul and Darth Sidious.

I also can't believe that the teaser we've been anticipating for this long, and that some schmucks probably paid money to see a few hours earlier, was 50% old footage (& still managed to knock my socks off). It's almost not fair to tease this early.

Dude, what the hell do you think is a BAD movie if those were "excellent?"
I've seen both of the new ones once each, and even that was too much.
I think you're holding them up to the other Star Wars movies. Relative to the first 3 (or last 3, whatever) they're crap. But on their own, they're very strong.
If I was actually comparing them to the original trilogy and nothing else, I'd probably actually enjoy them somehow. I lvoe the hell out of the original three films, but in the grand sceme of filmmaking, they're far from being "brilliant" or even "great."
I am just looking at the new ones as "just movies," and from the directing to the lighting to the editing to ESPECIALLY the writing, they stink on ice.

It's not without its errors. I thought that whole "gladiator" scene was a good concept, but the beasts that were trying to kill them seemed like real bottom of the barrel, combining as many animals as possible to seem edgy. Then having the clones based on Boba Fett's dad was a shameless nod to the fans (not that that's entirely a bad thing). Still, I think they are very good movies.

The problem with the first two movies were that Lucas wrote and directed them pretty much in a bubble, with no one really close enough to say, "Dude...seriously...Jar-Jar?"
He can string a story together, and he has an amazing vision - but he can not director real people. Even Carrie Fisher said that making the orignial STAR WARS she and the rest of them just felt like "meat."
That is why both of the actors who have played Anakin have sucked - especially the first one. Child actors are only as good as the directors they work with (in my opinion). Hell, even gifted veteran actors have come across as wooden (Natalie Portman pushing her phaser as she fires is just painful - almost as bad as the romance in II).
The trailer was outstanding - but so were the trailers for I, and II. Hell, the trailer for the LOST IN SPACE was great, and that was the worst movie ever, ever made. In many ways the trailer has become the end product; they make a movie just to get a great trailer.
It was very smart to really push Vader, show the wookies and include a bit of Oldie Wan Kenobi from the original flick.
I'll be there opening day/weekend for III at the Uptown (maybe by then I can convince Fez to finally come into the city to see it there), and I'll hoot, and get mystie eyed during the "Far Far Away" and get a douche chill when the words "STAR WARS" appear for one last time with the John Williams blast, and I'll clap, and be a retard, and hopefully when I leave I won't feel I've wasted my money.
I really (!) wanted to love these three movies, and maybe when this one is done this trilogy can be viewed as one long brilliant story in itself.

curtoid I am right with you on that one. I wanted to love the moves so badly also, but there were MANY holes in the plot/script. I almost blame myself and the millions of Star Wars fans for making Lucas feel rushed for writing the script.
I think the teaser has what seems all the movies and also the Alec Guinness Obi-Wan is because this is what ALL of them have led up to...the Death of Skywalker...the Rise of Darth Vader. This is what we have suffered through Jar Jar binks and Ewoks for. To see Obi Wan fight Anakin and to see Anakin die and Vader RISE (my friend).
I, like everyone else, was blown away by the other trailers. I remember Siskel and Ebert even did a thumbs up/down on A the Movies when the trailer first came out. That's how much Star Wars meant to everyone. I do not think we will be as let down as we had in the recent past.
This is what it all comes down to and I seriously doubt that Lucas will dissappoint. He knows that if he screws this one up it will be unforgivaable.
I think he knows also where he went wrong with some of the scripting by adding in the Wookees and also showing what seemed to be an early version of the X-Wing fighter.
But like curtoid I also will be right there...at the midnight showing...popcorn in hand and getting teary because I know it is the end of Star Wars.
By the way...we do have ONE thing in our favor. They say this is going to be most like Empire (when comparing the last 3 to the first 3) and as we know...Empire was the best one thus far so.....make your own conclutions.

Definitely don't blame yourself or anyone but Lucas. He had 16 years to come up with the story, and the best he can open up the trilogy with is a trade dispute.

I really reeeally would love to believe that this next installment will deliver the goods but, I just don't think that Lucas has it in him to make a good movie anymore.
Ever since he "matured" and had a few kids..he has been unable to show any real violence in his movies. Everything that dies is either a clone or a robot. In a movie like this...it would simply have to contain some real violence. Or, at the very least some IMPLIED violence.
He makes movies for his children now. The last two movies were Day-glow comedies. JarJar stepping in shit....Farting Camels (pee-yousa!)..."You in deep doo doo now"..."Ouch time"...a frickin' 50ies diner in outer-space!! etc etc etc.
It's important to remember that GL did NOT direct Empire, or. for that matter...ROTJ. He did direct Howard the Duck and Radioland though. Pee-yousa indeed.
Take a look at the things that GL took so much time and money to "improve" the other episodes. Cartoon bands "rockin' out" for 3 minutes in ROTJ. Watering down the Han/Greedo scene. Etc etc.
I'm sure that, if he had his way, GL would remove the famous scene from Indiana Jones wherein Harrison Ford simply pulls out a pistol and shoots that fucked-up swordsman.
Yes, I will see it on opening night but, there is just no way it will be the movie we all want. It will be a watered down version of the movie he should've made a looong time ago.

Touche SKW.
But you know what I was gettin' at. The Day-glow Gungan battle in Episode One was so sanitized and bloodless. Same for the AOTC battle that was, basically, a giant videogame brought to the silver screen. Robots, clones, troopers, giant termites....Hell, Padme even got to battle a big pink furry cat-like thing (with a halfshirt on!!)
It just doesn't feel like these battles mean anything.
I was a HUUUGE fan of the original two films. Hopefully GL can bring back the rock but, it just doesn't look good from where I'm sittin'.

Tea Leoni wasn't in "Howard The Duck."
Look, Lucas fucked these newer movies up because he tried to do them all himself. Only "A New Hope" was the ONE film of the original trilogy that he wrote and directed himself. The other two he produced and presented the story ideas and outlines, but they were fleshed out and finally directed by different people...this is especially true with "Empire," hence why it is actually a very good film, and looks and "sounds" SO much better than the rest.
That, and he made these newer films to be too "convenient." Everything has to tie together and be connected or related...it all feels forced and fake. And he's too in love with computers. Look at the old movies...they built MASSIVE sets that made you feel like it was honestly another world. And the "puppets" actually made the aliens seem MORE real. The CGI stuff is pretty...but you never buy that any of it is or even could be real for a second.
The two sites below best spell out what want so horrible wrong with the two newer films...

Before the last movie I was holding out hope (so to speak...har-har-snort-har-har) that Obi Wan got cloned, and that the Obi Wan we know from the original trilogy was actually not the Obi Wan from this series - that THAT Obi Wan is killed during battle, etc.
That would have explained away a lot of the holes between the two trilogies, etc. Of course it would have yet another thing that Obi Wan "forgot" to tell Luke.
The one twist I would love to see from Episode III is to have it turn out that Luke and Lea's mother is not Padme/Amadalla but rather one of HER lookalikes that Anakin bangs.
Not going to happen, though - I know...I know....
I suppose the one thing that is likely is that the emperor is going to play some mind games with Anakin to push him over the edge - maybe even some shades of Othello, with Anakin even being lead to believe that his wife is stepping out with his teacher, Obi Wan.

Clones are copouts. They're not emotionally interesting. Like zombies. You build a story about the characters not the zombies (or clones in this matter). I don't want a story about a damn clone getting Anakin to join the dark side, so I hope that's not it. So, I hope the clone action is limited to all the Boba Fett remakes.
As far as the evil contact lenses. I know Sidious is the older, uglier looking version of Palpatine, but I seriously hope that there's a reasonable explanation about how he's able to turn it on and off (yeah, I read the spoiler and that's OK, I guess).

Bingo. That would be the most dramatic, and interesting, option open to this VERY limited storyline...and, to make it even more epic and Shakespearean, have Anakin end up being the one that actually kills Natalie Portman's character after she's given birth to the twins. Talk about "Othello"...

And she's gonna have to be pregnant without him knowing?
Here's how I'd write it out...
He's SUPPOSED to be a great pilot, right? Alright, he gets sent off on some secret mission, gets shot down, and is stranded on a planet in the middle of nowhere. Everyone assumes he's dead. Portman was knocked up just before he left, so he never found out she was pregnant. Obi-Wan, being Anakin's good friend, comforts Anakin's wife...and they end up getting a little too close for comfort. Anakin finally escapes/is rescued, shows up alive, surprises everyone, realizes what happened and goes nuts. Make it he's been gone for like a year so that she's had time to have the kids. Anakin kills Natalie Portman's character out of rage, and tries to kill Obi-Wan, and ends up getting fucked the fuck up and turns into Darth Vader. Even if he finds out about one or both of the kids, he could assume they were Obi-Wan's. Hell, if she had them before he got back, he wouldn't have to know at all, if he just cuts down Portman in a moment of insanity.
Man, it's fucking easy to write these things.

it could've been an adoptive mother that leia recalls ...
maybe:
anakin knows that padme's pregnant ... the jedi council finds out about anakin's antics, and demands him to decide between her and being a jedi ... anakin's continually frustration of obi-wan's refusal to accept anakin as a jedi knight ... and you have palpatine pushing all the right buttons with anakin ...
i believe padme will walk in on anakin revealing (or doing) something evil ... she freaks, anakin overly freaks out and begins to 'force-choke' her... obi-wan shows up to save her, beginning 'the duel' ... padme, unknown to most, has twin and dies in childbirth ... obi-wan defeats anakin ... yoda then decides to send luke to tatooine with obi wan to watch him ... and to send leia to alderan with either a wookie and/or jimmy smits ...
then obi-wan ages a dramatically extra 20 years to catch up with the ben kanobi we meet in 'a new hope' ...

In ROTJ it's said that Vader didn't know about his kids, that they were hidden from him. At the very least, he didn't know about Leia. How are they going to pass this one off? He'd have to turn evil before he finds out she's pregnant.
The plotline of Vader NOT knowing that he has kids has always bothered me.
At the very beginning of ESB, Darth looks at Hoth and says "The rebels are there and I'm sure Skywalker is with them".
First of all...how does Darth know that Skywalker is in the rebellion. He's never formally introduced to Luke. But anyway.....
Later in the (special edition) movie, The Emperor says "We have a new enemy, the Son of Skywalker" and Darth says "How can this be possible?".
But Darth had already addressed Luke as "Skywalker"...implying that he already knows he has a Son. Why would he be confused when The Emperor says "son of Skywalker"??
It's very inconsistent.
AND MOJO...
I agree! I have ALWAYS said that Anakin and Ben will fight over Padme. I think that Anakin would misunderstand a conversation between Ben & Padme (A la every episode of Three's Company)and then he would flip the fuck out.
I think that the only thing that could ever cause Anakin to REALLY attack Ben was Love.
Let's see if Lucas gave it as much thought as we did.

* I had hoped they were going in a different direction with the clones, before I saw Episode II. I was hoping that maybe Obi Wan would get cloned somehow - or was already a clone. So many of the things that bothered me about the continuities between the two series of movies have to do with Obi Wan (his age; his leaving out key elements for Luke; etc), plus I really wanted a kick ass twist.
These new movies are nothing more than connect the dot storytelling. WE KNOW WHERE IT'S GOING. One of the many reasons EMPIRE STRIKES BACK was so cool, and stands out from the rest, is that it gave us several legit surprises - Yoda, "I Am Your Father" and Han getting frozen up.
These new flicks - even people half way tuned into the series knows what's going to happen. To bridge the gapes between the plot points they need to hit, Lucas throws a lot of pretty pictures at us.
Pffffft!
Big fucking deal - Anakin gets an arm sliced off and Yoda can bounce around like an animated mongoose. Give us some bizarre shit out of left field that even the fannist fan boy in fan town can't anticipate.
How cool would it have been to have an old Harrison Ford do a cameo as the face under the Janga Fett mask in the last movie?
Shit - have Obi Wan really be Luke and Leia's father! Have Padme "kill" Anakin, or better yet - have Padme die in the first minute of Episode III, and the mother of the twins be someone ELSE! As of right now, we don't know for sure that she is their mother.
Hope that explains where I was coming from with that.

It's not really a continuity problem as much as it is a LOGICAL problem.
Anakin built 3P0 on Tattoine and then 3P0 "lived" on the farm with Owen and Beru. If that is the case then;
3P0 should recognize Tattoine and the farm when the crash on that planet.
3P0 should recognize/remember Owen & Beru.
Owen and Beru should remember 3P0.
3P0 should remember the name SKYWALKER.
Vader should recognize 3P0 (yes, I admit that this one is lame)
3P0 and Ben should remember each other when they reunite in EpIV.
etc etc etc.

the fact that the droids appear in all three prequels, is indicative of how lame lucas is ...
at this point in his career, he's become a much better marketer than a storyteller ...
it would have been infinitely cooler if threepio appears towards the end of EPIII, aboard the ship that opens EPIV ... i'd even conceed an artoo appearance in EPII, except for the flying bit ...
but lucas wanted toys and more marketable tie-ins ...
and with chewie in EPIII, you would think at some point in EPIV, during that long trip to alderann, either chewie, obi-wan or the droids would spin some yarn about the good old days ...
maybe chewie could ask obi-wan why he aged so poorly, or how much luke looks like his dad before he went apeshit ...
how about vadar seeing artoo, chewie and droid he built as a child (his rosebud), threepio ...
the more you delve into this the less enjoyable it is ...

Lucas achieved what every independent filmmaker wants, which is complete control over his work. Sadly, he is far more gifted at coming up with a big picture than sweating the details - like plot, characters, dialouge, and working with human actors. That's what has made these new films so maddening.
One of the saddest things I have ever seen was at a toy store about a year ago - two 8 year old boys went racing to the STAR WARS toy display, and one of them, who was overly excited, actually said: "Who is Han Solo?" and MOMENTS later went "OOOOH! JAR JAR BINKS!"
I felt so ill.
i'd even conceed an artoo appearance in EPII, except for the flying bit ...
That was the worst.

Slightly off topic but:
My brother was a correspondant for MSNBC a few years ago and he was assigned to cover the "midnight madness" at a NYC toystore the night that Episode One action figures were first released. There was a looong line of Fanny Fanboys from Fannytown there, anxiously waiting for the store to open at 12:01.
When the doors opened, they all raced over to the displays and were randomly grabbing armfuls of action figures of characters they never heard of.
As an experiment...my brother filled a rather large box with various dollar bills and left the box in the middle of the aisle. Unattended. REAL MONEY!!
The fanboys would, literally, run passed the box of money and continue to grab action figures by the dozen!

It's a f'ing shame what Lucas has done in Episode I & II. The kid they got to play Anakin in Episode II & III can't act to save his life.
My theory is that Lucas' story for the entire saga probably started off weak and improved as he got further into developing what would be Episodes IV, V & VI.
Everyone is right about the continuity errors. Especially the point about the droids. These same droids hung out with Obi-wan and Anakin for 10 to 15 years.
Luke is about 16 or 18 when he meets Obi-wan and the droids introduce themselves by their original names. Obi-wan should have remembered them.
Then there's Darth Sidious and Palatine. They are supposed to be the same guy. But every shot of Darth Sidious looks like he's much more decayed in the face--especially the mouth and chin.
I'm at a point where I just hope for good lightsaber battles.

Some independent film company should take Jason X, add a black cape and a deep voice, call him Dark Invader, rate the movie NC17, and send Mr. Dark Invader on the greatest killing spree that would make the entire known and unknown universe shudder.
THATS the Darth Vader I knew when I was 10...
That's where we need to go with this GREAT character. Enough with the pussification of Mr. Vader!!!

the fact that the droids appear in all three prequels, is indicative of how lame lucas is ...
The idea behind this was that the 2 droids would be the characters that the audience would follow, while the main characters would do what they do, we'd see the story unfold through the eyes of minor characters, R2 and 3PO. It's a pretty cool storytelling tool that George lifted from Kirisawa (I think it was Kirisawa, But I think he does give credit to whoever did it before him)
He didn't keep this going, but tried to do it with Episode I and it doesn't work.
3P0 should recognize/remember Owen & Beru.
Owen and Beru should remember 3P0.
3P0 should remember the name SKYWALKER
I don't see why Droid Memory Wipes is such a hard concept for people to buy into, Owen does mention wanting to wipe their Memory in the 1977 movie, and I'm sure droid's memories are wiped normally when passed from owner to owner. Droids are just tools in this story, they aren't like Data in Star Trek that have their own rights, they are property that come off an assembly line like cars and are bought and sold like any other object people own.
It should be part of Lucas' plan to have their memories wiped, as a story teller it would solve a lot of these issues. And it's not that lame (when you look at the other crap Lucas has done e.g. "poodoo", Jar Jar)
The humans don't recognize 3PO or R2 because there are tons of droids just like them. There is a Driod that looks EXACTLY like 3PO in the opening of the original Star Wars (he just walks off while the 2 main droids talk about the attack)
There is a silver one just like 3PO that serve Obi Wan and Liam Neeson water in the opening of Episode I
There's a white 3PO droid on Hoth in ESB, there is anther in the Cloud City (that says something rude to 3PO)
Vader should recognize 3P0 (yes, I admit that this one is lame)
Does Vader have any interaction with 3PO? And if so doesn't he look different that when he built him or sees him in Episode II?
3P0 and Ben should remember each other when they reunite in EpIV.
etc etc etc.
Ben says he doesn't remember owning a droid. He didn't seem to interact with R2 or 3PO in the Prequels (Padme and Anakin do) He does seem to have his own droid (R4) that he deals with.
Leia puts plans into R2 in AHN, but I don't think that was planned in advance, Ben wasn't expecting a droid to deliver anything to him, he wasn't really expecting a message from Leia (at least we don't have any reason to think that, she's calling for help from someone who server for her father, which should be part of the plot of Episode III)

He didn't keep this going, but tried to do it with Episode I and it doesn't work.
He didn't even try.
The idea of being the audience's "guide" is an old cinematic trick, and it works in the first trilogy because THEY'RE THE FIRST CHARACTERS WE SEE AND FOLLOW FOR A GOOD 20 MINUTES. They don't even show up in the new "first" movie for, what, half an hour? And I think their screentime in those first 20 minutes of the "fourth" movie outweighs all the time they've shown up in the newer two films.
In short, there's no reason for them to be in the film, they serve zero purpose, except to stroke off fanboys, and they're a distraction, at BEST.
And I still don't buy that NONE of these people hanging around C-3PO wouldn't remember him. Yeah, we've seen a bunch of other droids that look like him...but none of them seem to have his same prissy attitude or function. I mean, we're talking like 20 years between the current trilogy and the second one. You don't see a lot of fancy-dancy "butler"-robots on that sand planet that Luke is from. NOBODY for a second thinks, "hey, THIS new faggy British robot I'm buying reminds me EXACTLY of the old faggy British robot we had BACK WHEN MY STEP-MOM WAS KILLED."
I mean, they live on a giant desert planet. Not much happens. CUT THE SHIT.

I've heard the "droids are like cars....everybody has one" analogy before and YES...I remember every single car I've ever had. And if I built it from scratch & named it myself, then I DEFINITELY would remember it.
If they DO erase the droids memory at the end of this movie, it only explains why the droids forget things...not the humans.
And why even bother with the whole Leia/Sister plot?? It adds nothing, it ruins the love triangle, and most importantly...it's inconsistant.
Vader is standing RIGHT NEXT TO Leia at the beginning of EpIV and he senses NOTHING, but he senses Luke and Ben from across great distances.
It just seems like Lucas made it up as he went along. Why does Ben say "That Boy was our last hope" to Yoda. To which Yoda replies "no, there is another". Surely Ben knows that Leia is Lukes sister, right? I mean... he IS the one that hid them both from Anakin after they were born!! So why does he pretend like he doesn't know she exists?!
And don't get me started on the Midichlorian plot line. THAT just doesnt make sense no matter how you look at it. Lame.

By making everyone and everything related, Lucas has made the whole story just waaay too coincedental.
That's true and most of it I don't try to defend, Lucas just messed things up. He should have just expanded the universe of Star Wars along with the Main characters, just leaving a few key connections between PT and OT: Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda
C3P0 has the same name and annoying personality but nobody remembers him...EVER!
I say most people don't pay him much attention.
Owen lived w/ c3p0 on the farm for 10 years! Then add the fact that 3p0 is always with R2, which makes him even more distinctive.
10 years passed from the time Anakin left with Liam Leeson until Episode II
C3PO lived with Anakin's Mom who married Cliegg Lars (guy with missing leg) sometime during that 10 years (I don't think she met him the day after Anakin left) We don't know how long Cliegg Lars' son Owen Lars (Luke's Uncle) has been living with Cliegg Lars and C3PO. So 3PO may not have had much of an impression on Owen.
The team of C3PO and R2D2 weren't there with Owen for those 10 years. In Episode II, R2 must have been on Naboo for all that time as he shows up with Padme at the beginning of the movie. I don't remember if R2 and 3PO had a "re-uniting" scene in Episode II, but they haven't been together for 10 years) and Owen wouldn't know them as being driod-buddies.
I've heard the "droids are like cars....everybody has one" analogy before and YES...I remember every single car I've ever had. And if I built it from scratch & named it myself, then I DEFINITELY would remember it.
True. But Anakin has been through a lot since he built 3PO. 3PO has as well; other people have owned him and modified him since he last worked on him. 3PO didn't even have "coverings"
If that <b>unfinished</b> car you had was then owned by a few other people who then finished it, and probably changed a number of things on it, you may not recognize it unless you did a close inspection and found your own handiwork. Vader never even talked to 3PO or did anything to acknowledge him in the OT, and I'm sure he's been around a bunch of the same kind of Protocol droids (like the one we see walking next to 3PO the very first time we saw him in 1977!).
Vader gave up his life as Anakin as he went to serve his master on the Dark Side, I don't think his childhood projects really crossed his mind.

You make a lot of good points but, still...GL is asking the viewer to excuse an awful lot. He's expecting the viewer to blindly accept some things and, at other times, simply ignore others.
It just seems like Lucas made no effort to address and/or avoid huge plot holes.
The lists that Mojo posted have some great examples of what I mean.
Sure, some of the list is a bit too nitpicky (even for ME!) but for the most part...the guy is dead on.
Check it out if you haven't already. Good readin'.

Honestly, as a Star Wars fan, I really don't care about all the plot holes so long as the action within the film proper makes sense, the writing doesn't suck worse than the original Star Wars, and it has a few great scenes.

Screw that. If only he had someone else write and direct them. That's why Empire was so perfect. (except for Luke doing his chipmunk impression when he learns Vader is his father).

He's so full of shit. Lucas wrote each of these movies MAYBE a couple years before each one.
I don't doubt he had a vague outline, but the details, ESPECIALLY stuff like Vader being Luke's father, and Leia being the sister, clearly came out of nowhere as the series went along.
He had 15 years to write this new trilogy, and it's woefully apparent he didn't bother until just before shooting began. Hell, I've heard stories of scenes being re-written constantly the days OF shooting.
And y'know, he expects us to believe that all these characters are tightly connected, but he introduces new aliens up the ying-yang every goddamn movie. Use some of the shit you already have! Why did we need to see Jar-Jar's people...a whole new race of aquatic aliens...when we already saw the following in the first three films...
http://www.r2d2menace.com/archives/ar_0803/pulps.jpg
Those red dudes were running the whole fuckin' Rebel fleet in "Jedi!" Clearly they're important...why not use THEM as the water-aliens in the first movie, thusly kinda explaining how they started to become important and influential in the Republic?
Christ, these are HIS movies!!! Does he not remember the drooling red aliens he had all over the place for the last hour of "Jedi??!?"

EXCELLENT fucking points....I never bought that he had all three of the first movies figured out from the start. I mean, would he have really done the bizarre sexual tension in EMPIRE between Luke and Leia if he always knew they were brother & sister?
And I love the idea of using existing aliens to populate and expand the canvass of the story.
I actually heard that he was still writing the screenplays weeks before shooting was to begin on the new movies. The best thing about EPISODE I is the making of special feature which actually reveals what a tool Lucas is.

It's all been said before: Lucas isn't a director, and he's not a writer, he's a special effects guy. The first two new Star Wars' were a wankfest for Lucas' technical mastery (and, at best, mediocre writing ability) doing very little in 5 1/2 hours to begin a story that he already knew the end to. Revenge of the Sith is gonna have to be ugly, brutal, violent and pretty fucking disturbing to make any kind of useful connection to Star Wars and quite frankly he doesn't have the balls. This film will probably suck just like the first two but we'll all see it hoping against hope that it will make us feel like we did when we saw the first one. And I don't think that contacting lenses and "Crow"-like scars are going to help mask Hayden Christensens bad acting.

Obviously Lucas is a fucktard and should have given these movies over to GOOD filmakers. Could've even done something really cool and get a different really cool director to do each one. But,
I mean, would he have really done the bizarre sexual tension in EMPIRE between Luke and Leia if he always knew they were brother & sister?
I would. I think you deny that Lucas could even have intentional humor in the movies. That's one of the things that I truly find as "great" in the original movies. The rest to me is just the undeniable (and geektastic) appeal of Star Wars.
I've heard the "droids are like cars....everybody has one" analogy before and YES...I remember every single car I've ever had. And if I built it from scratch & named it myself, then I DEFINITELY would remember it.
3PO is like a serial number isn't it. Not something that organized, but I never thought it was just a name. So it would like remembering the first 3 numbers of the serial number to every car you've had. Or at leats I think so.
Obi Wan and Anakin don't remember 3PO because they don't really care or have to. Anakin's gone through a lot as has been previously said, and probably just wants to forget when he was a slave. Obi Won obviously has more to worry about too.
And I think some of the other droids of 3PO's type have the same gay mannerisms. That might be the excuse for Owen and his wife not to remember him. They did live with him for 10 years, but people live with their refridgerators for 10 years too. Would you remember yours after another 20 years. WOULD YOU?!?!?

My refrigerator doesn't talk. I dont depend on it. It hasn't saved my life a million times. I didn't build it from scratch. Etc etc.....
The droids are VERY important to these people. They NEED them. They dont go anywhere without them. They reward them when they do a good job and they are upset when they are damaged. The droids are like pets. YES, they should remember the droids.

If you want to see it at Grauman's Chinese Theatre opening day you'll need to get in line, but Episode III will be playing in 4000 other theaters that same day as well.
Plus those guys like the whole experience of being in line together for so long.
I was in line for a few hours before Episode I (Opening night, Midnight+1 minute: 12:01) but just walked in about a hour before Episode II (opening day, but not the first show at midnight) I didn't have a real job back in 1999 but in these 6 years I don't have the desire to stand in line to see a movie. I can buy tickets on line anyway if I really need to see it first day.

I guess since it was Leia's Dad, and he was turned back to good in the end they named him Anakin.

um, to swing back into some actual news about this movie, an action figure preview gives us some hints to the storyline, or at least some of the scenes we can expect.

hey, I own a mirror, so I know Natalie Portman is unattainable, but an action figure only runs about 5.99 or so.
...bah who'm I kidding? with the money I'm making now, the action figure is unattainable...

Well, Lucas has an easy out on that one. Obi Wan didn't own R4 (who was in AOTC, Obi Wan asked him to make a call to the "old folks home" I guess because Sam Jackson is so damn old.) and you never see Obi wan <b>buy a droid. So he didn't own a droid as far as we know.

The new versions are prettier and sound better than ever before - last summer I bought DVD's of the original versions, and have put them in 2 DVD slip cases with the new ones, so I have them all.
W/ the exception of the Hayden/Aniken cameo they plopped into Jedi, I actually like that revamped ending more.

The Laser Disc's you have to turn over, but you can find DVDs made from those LaserDiscs that you won't have to turn over on eBay.
The Video and Audio won't be as good as the Offical DVDs just released, but if you want to see the original version there you have it.
What's weird is a lot of the original footage that was changed can be found on the 4th disc of the offical DVD set, just not part of the films. You'll even see the Original-Original opening to Star Wars before it was named Episode IV: A New Hope

'Star Wars' Star Protests Innocence Over Drunk-Driving
Star Wars R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker is challenging charges of drunk-driving - claiming his asthma prevented him from agreeing to the breath test to determine the alcohol in his body. The 70-year-old vertically challenged actor, who played the robot in the 1977 movie, is relying on blood tests to clear him of reckless driving after he was stopped by police as he drove his Maroon Mercedes in Lancashire, England, on December 17. Baker ended up being locked up for two hours until a doctor had carried out a blood test - after his asthma prevented him from blowing into the test bag. He says, "The police said they'd had reports from other motorists that I was veering all over the road. I had gone for a drink after the show (Speed Dating), but only had one glass of wine. I am certain the tests will come back clear."

It has begun... (http://www.komotv.com/stories/34678.htm)
http://www.komotv.com/news/images/star_wars_fans_010505.jpg
In 1999, Twieden made international headlines when he and another fan camped out for months in this same spot to see the first of George Lucas' prequel trilogy.
"A lot of people say 'Get a life,' stuff like that. But I'm having the time of my life out here."
Twieden thinks prequel episodes one and two were a mixed bag, but he can sum up the potential of Episode Three in one word.
"Vader, baby. Vader."
Ugh.
"We all want to see Vader kick some ass," he says.
We do? Really? I mean, he's a great villian and all, but he is an evil villian. It would be like saying, "I can't wait to see Hitler kick some ass!" Ok...maybe that's over doing it - I mean, Hitler never blew up a planet, or cut off his own son's hand.
"Star Wars is about independence and freedom," Twieden says. "And that's really what this wait is about. That complete and utter independence."
Yes! The freedom to trap yourself in a line for half of a year, and the independence that only a multi-million dollar marketing machine can bring!
This line is the payoff for me...
There's a potential problem in the long wait. Twieden isn't even sure Episode Three will play the Cinerama.
HA!
He has a blog too... (http://waitingforstarwars.blogspot.com/)

I actually was in a line for Episode I to buy tickets for a couple hours the week before it came out and another line a few hours before the show.
By the time Episode II came out they were selling advance tickets (I think Harry Potter started that trend) so I just showed up a coule hours ahead of time so I could have a nice seat.
For Episode III I might not even do that.

Yeah - that's if you are just wanting to see the movie. If you want to EXPERIENCE it, and live in DC, you need to get ticket to the Uptown Theater, which is where the local geeks line up in advance. There is cheering, and screaming and hooting and clapping - makes it all the more fun.
Images of people outside The Uptown when the first Star Wars opened in 1977 show up all the time in documentaries about the impact Star Wars had.
Great theater. Often the place where local or regional premieres take place; every once in awhile a world premiere takes place there too (2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968 and Jurassic Park in the 1990s), as well as grand 70mm reissues of films like Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus and others.

I almost wanted to go to the Uptown for that All Day Lord of the Rings showing (Extended FOTR, Extended TTT, and then regular ROTK opening day) but thought the smell would ruin seeing the third film.

I'm the same way, for the most part, with these. I'll see them at a crappy megaplex theater in the burbs opening day, but then have tickets to see it a few days later w/ my fellow geeks at the Uptown...
I don't remember cheering, screaming, hooting or clapping in the line.
Actually I was talking about in the theater, not in line.
I almost wanted to go to the Uptown for that All Day Lord of the Rings showing (Extended FOTR, Extended TTT, and then regular ROTK opening day) but thought the smell would ruin seeing the third film.
Well, that thing sold out in no time at all, so it would have been really tough to get tickets. I wouldn't have gone because I would have been paranoid getting crappy seats, and been stuck there for 10 hours. Also, without the extended version of Part 3, it was an incomplete geek experience!
They did show the extended versions of Part 1 & Part 2 on their own, the weeks leading up to Part 3, and we did go to that - one a week - last year.
Who am I to make fun of some guy in line in Seattle?

Does Yoda have a tail? I picture him with a tail...
We get to see Yoda's blood/meat penis in Chapter 7 "Jar Jar's Interterr‘stial Trist" Yoda bangs EVERYONE and takes a lightsaber anally like a true Jedi. It's about time Lucas made a good movie!!!
Yoda's Gloryhole looks oddly like a Sarlacc bung...

I beleive the voice is now john rhys-davies from the indy and lotr flicks ...
Looks like they're not going with a known actor.
Providing the voice of Grievous is Matthew Wood, whose history with Star Wars has been mostly behind-the-scenes. Though Wood is an actor, his contribution to the prequel trilogy has been primarily as Supervising Sound Editor. His access to the Episode III production process may have given him a head's up that casting was underway for the part, but the use of a pseudonym ensured that insider status didn't factor into the selection process.
On set, Duncan Young read Grievous' lines for the benefit of the actors. His voice was never intended to make it into the final film, and it was edited out of the mix early on along with much of the production audio. Ben Burtt and others supplied temporary voices on the track, all heavily modulated to be appropriate for a cyborg general.
Guess it doesn't matter too much who the voice is, They are going to process him a lot to make him sound mechanical. Plus, like Darth Maul, he's going to die quickly anyway since the main bad guy is Palpatine.

New Episode III Trailer:
The full length trailer for Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith is on its way, with a world premiere during an new episode of "The O.C" on FOX, Thursday, March 10th.
Those wanting to see the online debut of the Episode III trailer need to log in to starwars.com Hyperspace. Members of Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club can begin watching the trailer after the television broadcast, at approximately 9pm PT. If you're not yet subscribed, click here.
For those who want to see the trailer on the big screen, it will be released in theaters on March 11, along with Robots, the new animated feature film from Twentieth Century Fox.
The trailer will next appear online for all users of starwars.com on Monday, March 14, with a large screen version available only to Hyperspace subscribers arriving shortly after that date.

Of course this will be all over the internet before Monday March 14th, probably before it airs on the OC

That was a ripoff. That was a OC promo not a star wars trailer.

Big Thanx to Fallon.
Jimmy Fallon kissing Drew Barrymore -- on the field, on live TV -- right after the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years. In fact, they were shown in a closeup within 60 seconds of the final out. And every Red Sox fan is determined to pretend that this never happened, and that it didn't taint the moment even a little bit ... so it wasn't a huge deal.</center>

It isn't Thursday, March 10th yet. That link isn't the new trailer, it's a teaser for the new trailer (Which is a lame concept)
<img src="http://members.cox.net/nicksporsche/yoda-ep3.jpg">
As I said, you probably will be able to see the actual trailer before the OC, so you won't have to sit through the show to see a couple minutes of footage.

It's the same guy. Interesting thing though, in the original Empire, the Emporer's holograph is a woman.

I know it's the same actor. Just wondering why he seems to look different in every movie (except of course the scenes in Episodes I and II where he is Senator Palpatine and fooling everyone)
All those pictures of him in the hood look like different people (the only one that should is the woman from the real version of Empire Stikes Back. Since he changes his hooded look so much why did they bother replacing the woman with Ian McDiarmid) And the poster (which is painted) doesn't look like any of them.
Otherwise it's a pretty cool poster, for a Star Wars poster.

I don't think Vader is in any shape to make fun of people's appearance.
Any thoughts on that trailer? is the link dead already?
