Although I disagree with Bush and his rushing to war, and I'm afraid of being involved in an upcoming one, as well as seeing how the military fails in supporting their veterans, I have been thinking about joining. Thoughts of costs for school, and my eligibility to any 4 year college due to my lackluster grade point average and student rank has led me to weigh out my options.

So, if I do join, get sent to war and am either wounded or killed, would any of you "right wing conservative jackoffs" tip your hat in remembrance to a "left wing pacifist wacko"?

Funny, I'm going to a Navy recruiter on Monday. I don't want to go back to the army because they'll throw me where they want me rather than where I want to go.

What your position is doesn't matter when you are fighting a war or if you are hurt due to a war. I would definattely support you.

Dude, my gpa in high school wasn't the best. Just go to a community college. go for a year or two and tranfer to a 4 year college. It's a good way to start college if you aren't ready for a 4 year right away.

My sentiments exactly. Political positions have nothing to do with my support of people who serve. I support whoever is brave enough to make that sacrifice. I support whoever the president is also whoever makes the choice regardless of party affliation.

If you really want to go to college, there is a college out there for you. Whether its a community or tech college, or some small school somewhere, you will get in. There are so so many schools out there that never ever meet their enrollment quotas, and will therefore accet anyone who applies.

But if you dont really want to join, then the Army is a great choice. If you do join, you most likely will be sent to some warzone, but there are MOS that are not front-line type of jobs. Also, the Army as a career is such a great choice for a minority, no other job offers so much oppurtunity for a minority to advance and to lead as the Army.

Don't do it just for money for school. Especially with the way things are now. I know a few people that went in with your situation and had second thoughts once we actually went to war. Sad thing is lower class people have very limited options when it comes to schooling and look at the service as a way to get that college degree, but reality is there are probably a ton of other options out there for you.
But if you want to join for all the right reasons and just look at schooling as a bonus then go for it.

A buddy of mine joined the Marines a little after 9/11 and he's been in NC, then Cali, Japan for a year and a half, and now he's gonna finish his five-year commitment in NC so I think it all depends on the govt. So will you go to war?? Not for sure. but there's always a chance. Plus, if you want to go to college and fell you can't go to community college then transfer. They could care less about GPA.

No because I was already in the Army when that shit happened, and I know what my mistake was. I already know exactly what MOS I want, plus I won't sign any papers without guaranteeing me the position I want. Plus it was only one shitty recruiter. My first recruiter was who hooked me up with being a nurse through the Army in the first place, and made damn sure that I wouldn't get suckered into being a field medic instead.

i considered going to West Point, but chickened out. I have to give up to you for actually taking that route seriously. But I do have to stress that a college will accept you and WNEWstinks was actually right (crazy, I know) that you can always transfer to a bigger school after going to a Community college.
