The moose was alive when it was lowered to the ground but was later killed when officials from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game decided against tranquilizing it to remove the wires because they were worried the moose, already stressed, would die and the meat would not be salvageable as a result of the drugs.

She arrived to find a large buck with it's antler stuck in no-climb fencing. This was the middle of the rut, so the buck was extremely agitated and horny. A mortal ACO would have painted an imaginary "X" between the bucks eyes and ears and let it have some sweet .22 caliber relief, but my wife used her superhuman aim to shoot the dumb thing's antler off, thus freeing it. Now, the antler remnant is used as an example of good shooting at the AC academy. She is easily 100 times cooler than me.

Actually, the zoo originally kept the deer alive and in its own enclosure. However, it was injured when it jumped into the polar bear exhibit and went into shock after its rescue; euthanasia was the most humane thing they could have done.
