The picture is real, and so is the story behind it. But I figure I'd see who could guess how this happened.
No searching, just guess.

The moose was alive when it was lowered to the ground but was later killed when officials from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game decided against tranquilizing it to remove the wires because they were worried the moose, already stressed, would die and the meat would not be salvageable as a result of the drugs.
"It's just an unbelievable story," said Gabriel Marian, president of City Electric Inc., the contractor erecting the power line to the mine. "The only unfortunate part is we had to shoot the moose.
"It would be more of a feel-good story if we had let it down and it ran off," he lamented...

When my wife was an Animal Control Officer a few years ago, she responded to a homeowner complaint of a deer stuck in the fence. She arrived to find a large buck with it's antler stuck in no-climb fencing. This was the middle of the rut, so the buck was extremely agitated and horny. A mortal ACO would have painted an imaginary "X" between the bucks eyes and ears and let it have some sweet .22 caliber relief, but my wife used her superhuman aim to shoot the dumb thing's antler off, thus freeing it. Now, the antler remnant is used as an example of good shooting at the AC academy. She is easily 100 times cooler than me.

Actually, the zoo originally kept the deer alive and in its own enclosure. However, it was injured when it jumped into the polar bear exhibit and went into shock after its rescue; euthanasia was the most humane thing they could have done.

Sheep stuck up a telegraph pole in the small town of Helgoysund on the Norwegian coast.
An amorous sheep in Norway got stuck hanging from a live wire when it tried to "abseil" down an electricity cable to reach a field full of ewes. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/5988367/Abseiling-sheep-gets-stuck-on-live-wire.html)

This story troubles me. In the end the ram was rewarded by being allowed to "graze" with the ewes he was trying to reach.
On the one hand, I'm happy that the little fella is gettin his groove on, but I'm torn by the human meddling of the evolutionary process. Clearly a tight rope walkin ram with a live wire act should not be prcocreating...... bc he's obviously gay.
