View Full Version : The Person Above You Thread

For those of you who live in apartments with people above you, I'm sure you'll know what I'm talkin about. For whatever reason the people always seem to have some sort of a huge wooden ball, or some heavy round object that they seem to take pleasure in rolling across the floor at all hours of the night. I've tried many many times to figure out what the sound is. I've heard it in numerous other apartments, including my brothers apartment. What is up with that?
This thread has nothing to do with the game thread, it's just coincidentally titled the same.

in my friend's apartment shes on the 1st floor and the people above her are always moving furniture around at strange hours of the night. some people think theyre the only people on this planet.
this one apartment i lived in with my dad we were on the 2nd fl and any tiny noise (we were quiet dammit!) the people below would knock on the ceiling with a broom, we'd knock right back.

I'm on the second floor of a three-level complex...and the guys that live above me are complete dorks. They literally have D&D parties. One of them looks like Sling Blade, and spends hours sitting on the stoop outside listening to his CD player, glaring at everyone. The other has one of those curly moustaches that barbers in the 1800's had. And apparently, when they use the bathroom, they HAVE to slam down the fucking toilet seat when they're done. No matter what time of day or night...and apparently, they never sleep.
Other than that, no real complaints about noise...though people opening their patio doors above or below me sounds like a train rumbling by. And that when it opens BELOW me, it means the 90-year-old guy on the first floor is coming out to smoke his 16th ten cent-cigar of the day, which is going to fill my ENTIRE FUCKING APARTMENT if, God forbid, I wanna have a window open.

Sounds like you live below my first roommate in college...
I have only rarely lived below anyone (1 semester in college, 1 year and a half about a year and a half ago, and for the past 5 months). I didn't really notice anything until my current place where I can hear the people above when they get in the shower.

The people above me aren't a problem. The people NEXT to me are. My bedroom wall is their living room wall. They are constantly going in and out or people are coming in an out. The best part is they like to slam the door each time.
I don't know if they're students or unemployed or what. But they are ALWAYS up and always home.
They are just plain loud. They don't talk, they yell. And the very best part: they put their stereo speakers right up against the wall so every night I get bass in my ear. I can't remember home many times I get awakened by them.

I live in a tiny Manhattan closet. The ceilings are made out of paper - and you can hear walking, closets, doors slamming etc..
If someone is an asshole your out of luck. But the majority of people are just regualr people like you and me. The problem is they may not know who you are and may not see you as a real person.
Go knock on their door and introduce yourself and very very nicely make some small talk and then at the end, mention that if at all possible to be aware that you hear everything they do. Most people will try to keep it down. When they are loud they will subconsiously see your face and know your beneath them gritting your teeth.
Most of my neibors have tried to be polite and i try as well for the tenant beneath me ( at least after 11).

I remember the first few nights in my appartment back on the island, my landlord had a 2 year old daughter who would wake up at like 7AM and then it seemed like she or something was dropping a bowling ball on the floor.

the people who live above me disappeared, i met them once and then no car, no people. no one recalls them moving out and the apartment super says he can't go in until they are "evicted" so they just disappeared. it's strange
