My eBay Rant!

I really don't understand why when someone is having an auction that people feel the need to keep upping the price of things in the remaining hours of the auction. My guess is that they get some pathetic joy in seeing that they're the top bidder, so they must always be.

I understand if you're traveling or won't have access to the auction at the end if you want to throw a bid price out there to help your chances of winning, however when people just bid and bid and bid each other just for being at the top it's just stupid to me. Especially when there's like 5 or 6 hours left.

Personally I like to wait towards the end to make my bids. However something that maybe costs $30-$40 in the store ends up selling for $100 because of these rubes. I'm sure if you're the person selling the thing in the auction it's great. But if you're just trying to get something for a fair price it's pretty annoying when these people do this.

One possibility could be that they set the high price as to what they'd pay, so that whenever a person makes a higher bid, they will always top that until someone finally tops their high price.

As I said, I understand that part of it. It's when people just go back and forth with one another. I see it all the time and it's annoying. It's like they're just trying to outdo each other. Setting a high bid is one thing. Just bidding for the glory of seeing your name at the top is just stupid I think.

I don't know man, I don't use ebay enough for stuff I can get at a store, but I have been in bidding wars for stuff that I couldn't get anywhere else.

Couldn't agree more. Sniping (bidding in the final seconds) is just the rule on ePay though. There's software that will bid for you and make sure you win the auction even if you aren't at the PC. I've been outbid in the final seconds by just a few cents.
This shit (http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=5735656741) goes on all the time.

Why someone would pay $100 for a $30 dollar item you can get in a store is another question. That's just stupid.

It's the same idiots who pay $20,000+ for a piece of toast because it bares the slightest resemblance to a religious figure.

I like waiting to the last few minutes to go to war, that to me is the best part. It's the battles in the hours and sometimes days before an auction ends that annoys me.
