I think I'm going to have to give it to her. According to the orginal Criterion Spinal Tap DVD commentary (with the band not in character) she was involved in much of the improve/writing of her lines (much like many of the people in the film) Plus she's kinda hot.

Her voice isn't that bad in Spinal Tap. I've never seen her in "The Nanny" or anything else she's done, but I do love Spinal Tap. She was great as Bobbi Fleckman.

I just did a Google Image Search for "hand on hip" and it seems to not be a gendered preference to have the fingers splayed while the hand is on the hip.
