View Full Version : She had a lot of nerve to say that...

I graduated from college in May of 1987, but I didn't get a real job until January 1988. Instead, I worked part-time as a doorman at a '50s bar called Wurlitzer's in Piscataway, where I had worked as a student since April 1986.
I ran into this girl in September of '87, and I remember she made a smart remark about the fact that I was still working there. It didn't bother me much at the time, but looking back she had a lot of nerve. We were the same age, but she was still in school. Dumb bitch. I'm glad I took it easy that year (7 months, actually). In the big scheme of things, those 7 months were a blip on the radar screen of life.
And now, almost 18 years later, I'm sure I can write a check for her salary, her husband's salary (if she has a husband), and their combined life savings. I would love to run into her and point that out.
Edit: I probably shouldn't have posted this in Old School.

I used to work at a country club back in the late 80s between semesters and on vacations. As I was waitressing, one of my former friend's moms came up to me and asked me how things were. I told her, "Fine, I graduate from Fordham in May."
Her response: "WHAT? This isn't your regular job?"
I wanted to turn her into a pillar of salt right there.
EDIT: I'll move this to The Confessional.

Do you really still think about this stuff? I suppose we all do from time to time, but I think life's too short for the assholes of the world. Or getting revenge on them, they're not worth the effort. Since I lost my Sister, Nana, and a pet Dog (who I adored) last year, I'm very concious not to waste time on shitheads. Why bother. Life's too short and unpredictable.

That shit tends to stay with you.
I was not exactly the most popular kid in school. I always had headphones on, I didn't drink or smoke, hoplessly bad at sports, and I was always playing guitar or piano.
I was IN LOOOVE with a girl in 10th grade. Asked her out once and she LITERALLY LAUGHED IN MY FACE. I felt so stupid. That was 1987.
Fast forward to 2001-ish. I was playing Bass for an extremely famous/popular artist....and there, in the front row, was the girl from 10th grade....desperately trying to get my attention and telling her friends "I know him, I know him!!"
I completely ignored her.
She spent the ENTIRE night screaming for me. Sure....it was some stupid Sk8tr Boi nonsense, but it was really satisfying. I didn't laugh in HER face or anything (I'm above it) but it was a very cool moment for me.

So did she still look the same? Or did she get uglier?

Couldn't really see her body but, I will say that she looked really good. Her hair was still long and cool looking and her face was still amazing with ZERO make-up on.
She kinda looked like Jennifer Connolly.

Well it's been my experience in retail most people think you have no life besides answer thier inane question and cater to thier ever whim and that we just live in the store and have no life or family of our own. UUUUGH I hate retail and most people.

Agreed.
And then exclaimed "OH! LOOK WHAT I DID TO YOU AGAIN!"
Except it really wouldn't be again but it would be a pretty good time to say that.

A) When you're on tour...there is no shortage of chicks.
B) I was in a serious relationship at that time.
Plus, it wasn't aboot getting laid. Even if it was a dude from high school....I wouldn't want to give HIM the satisfaction of pretending like we are (were) friends.

After reading this pompous statement, I can see why she laughed at you. You've got a bit of douchebag in you. Grow up moneybags, let it go.

You're right, that does come off pompous in writing, I admit it. It's sort of like when Jimmy Norton says someone should die of cancer - when you hear it, it's funny, but in writing it's kind of creepy.

Four years ago I was at a light and my car started to stall as I was going through it. So the guy behind me got impatient and decided to go around me. I remember the look of anger on his face at the time. I haven't really thought about it until now, though I really don't like that he had the nerve to look at me like that.

When I was only a few hours old, I was still in the nursery at the hospital. I was hungry so I started crying, because that's what babies do. I guess the nurse was having a bad day or was tired, but she gave me a really dirty look. That's not cool. I'm a baby, what else am I going to do? Why did she do that?

I should have known that I'd get tooled on for this post. I guess there is a hint of WHAAAAAAAAAAA in the topic (if you can call it that). I guess I was just thinking in general about how a person should do what he wants to do and not get caught up in what other people think he should be doing.
I know a guy who quit his job in August to ride his bike to Florida in some kind of "get out the VOTE" spectacle. Does this seem weird to me? Yes, but that's what he wanted to, so give him credit.
Was I the most ambitious guy when I graduated from school? No, I was clinging to the college experience. But in some strange way I think this was good for me, because I was able to get it out of my system.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

My favorite is when people go on about how much more money you can be making if you worked in a school district, meawhile, I am working on a terrific ABA school for children with autism where people are fighting to get their children into. When I say that I privately tutor and make like 50 dollars an hour, they just look at me with that blank stare and say, "yeah, but you should really get into a school district." Fuck you!
Or another part of that conversation is when they see scars on my arms from working with children who are aggressive. "You should really get out of that job." No, dummy, I shouldn't. I love it and take the good with the bad.
I love these rant threads. Good job Johnny.
