View Full Version : Just a notice about the ads

I understand a number of you have some strong feelings about the advertisements appearing to the left and bottom of the site. I've heard some talk about how this is the beginning of the end, how I'm going to kill the board like Froy did with OTL and opieanthony.com with the advertisements.
Let me say this. None of these ad link to personal projects of mine. I don't intend to keep a dime generated from any of these ads. Any and all money will be donated to help the tsunami victims, and maybe one day when relief efforts have stabilized the region, we can turn to domestic issues and help out there or use the money to throw a bar party for the board every once in a while.
This is NOT an attempt to commercialize RonFez.Net. There will be no subscription services, no tasteless ads for porn and no behind the scenes theivery. If you ever want to know how much money is in the pot, ask me.
This board has, and will continue to be, great entertainment with a good heart...just like the Ron & Fez Show.

people feel that strongly about the ads? who cares if you kept the money the ads generate...i mean its nice your giving it to charity, but even if you didn't how does that affect the people who post.

Personally I have no problem with the ads. I just hope we don't enter a point where we get pop up ads.
Ad's on the side or on the bottom that are for the most part out of the way are fine by me.

We're only considering ads that do no disrupt the use of the board by its members or are not overly distracting, therefore you won't be seeing popup ads.

They don't bother me at all. In fact, it's fun sometimes to try to figure out what triggered a certain ad.

Forget the talk about the ads, when's the anime going to show up on the boards?? I thought when the New Year came in we would see all this new design stuff. But instead we got ads. At least you didn't play Chrsitmas music.
Speaking of which, the fluff mini-toon of a RonFez Christmas was pretty cool. How come you didn't let it run during Christmas?

quick thing here, i dont think the fact that ads are there are the reason people complain. im complaining mainly just to be a dick, i really dont care, i do have other browsers.
most of the people who have, i would assume are complaining about the selling of the site, and the fact that they thought money was being made of them for the sheer fact of fattening someones pockets, and about the fear of how far the site will go with ads.
truth be told, i dont think anyone really cares, its not like the ads are rolling in 1000 bucks a month and jeff is using that to pay his car payment and insurance.
or is he?

Yes and no. If you follow the terms of the deals (at least at the reputable sites), you'll get your iPod. What you have to do is try out a certain number of offers from their sponsors (some are fairly inexpensive) and get a certain number of people to sign up (usually 5) and try out offers as well. If you do that, you'll get your iPod. If the people you got to sign up get others to sign up and complete offers, then they'll get iPods too. The companies are willing to do this because, under the pyramid structure that is created, most people will not complete the terms of the offer, so it's worth the company's while to give out the iPods.
There are "conga lines" online for these offers (websites that organize people interested in the deals to maximize return) but I have no idea which ones are most likely to be effective.

Here are some testimonials about the success of the ads.
I earned my doctorate. It was easy. I just clicked on the "Earn Your Degree!" ad at the left, and bingo. Wasy as 1-2-3. Thanks RonFez.net.
I used to play bingo at the local church but the walk was too far for me to walk in my old age so I clicked on the "OnlyBingo.com" link on the left and I don't got to go to those smoked filled church basements anymore. Thanks again RonFez.net.
We were tired of Godzilla crushing our house time and time again. Heaven knows our insurance rates are astronomical. But I clicked on the "STOPzilla Free Trail" ad to the left. And what do you know, Godzilla doesn't bother us any more. Your a lifesaver RonFez.net.
People are reading the ads all the time. There's no bad thing about advertising. The only thing is not advertising so if you want to advertise on RonFez.net just click on the "Advertise on RonFez.NET!" link to the left. We have keyboard operators standing by. :)

Not really a critisism of the ads themselves, (they don't bother me in the least, and if they bring in revenue, all the better) just a report on the quality of one of the links.
I clicked on the "free" trial of STOPtzilla, and after a download, and 15 minute system scan, I clicked on fix to solve my problems during my trial offer, and was immediatly linked to a page where I had to pay $29.99 for the reg code. There was no free trial.

Who the fuck, with a brain in their head's, would knowingly click on an ad??
They say that the reason why there is any kind of spam in emails is because of the fact that 5% of people actually respond to a spam email! I honestly do not even notice, much less would even think of buying anything at all that wasnt something that I actively didnt look into on my own. Im sorry, I understand that this is the way people make money on the internet, I am just suprised at the sheer numbers of people who havent a clue that they are being targeted by ad's that are specific to searches or sites that they recently visited. I am so anal about it, I clear my cache and cookies on a daily basis and run spy busting software all the time.

I do exactly the same thing. I NEVER click on an ad. I just happened to it this instance hoping the powers-that-be looked into them.
Then I immediatly ran spybot.
My dopey wife clicked once, and entered her e-mail, I was de-spamming for weeks.
My point was the trust factor, which I thought I had.
