From DCRTV.com:
DCRTV is hearing rumblings that Infinity is seriously thinking about putting WHFS-type tunes on Charm City's WXYV, Live 105.7. We're being told that the talk station will, for the time being, keep Howard Stern in mornings and Don and Mike in afternoons, but may run alternative rock during evenings and overnights, and on weekends. Goodbye to DC's Ron and Fez at 7 PM? We also hear that some personnel from WHFS, which flipped to Spanish-language music last week, have been seen chatting it up with Infinity's suits in Towson. Even at the end, alt rock WHFS got decent ratings numbers in the Baltimore market, often not far below rival WIYY, 98 Rock...

Well, let's consider Dave and his "rumblings" -
Yes, he did get the scuttle right when R&F first went on in Baltimore, however...
there were the rumblings that WHFS would flip to Spanish "any day" that he made back in 2001...
And recently he heard rumblings that WJFK would be getting the rights to "The Nationals" (and while those rights haven't come to fruition), it seems likely they will be with a Clear Channel station...
OH! And there were no rumblings right before the HFS switch, the Junks to JFK, O'Reilly to tape delayed or The Hideout being shafted.

Well, if that happens, that sucks. I know of a number of Baltimore fans who will be very disappointed.
If Live 105 is to be the new WHFS, the least they could do is take HFS alums Big O and Dukes off the air on WJFK and send them up to Baltimore, and to give the Hideout back a slot on WJFK (weekends or overnights if they refuse to budge on O'Reilly)

Ugh. Once again, radio executives have their heads up their asses. They screwed up by flipping WHFS without a modicum of class, and were probably genuinely suprised by the outcry of what they did to such a legendary station. The station that everyone misses has been dead for at least 10 years. Rather than realize that the outrage was more from the station's history rather than what it had become, they decide that there is a market for the 2005 version of the station and re-launch. (yeah, yeah. I know the Baltimore ratings for WHFS were better, but were they good enough to warrant a re-launch of the station?)
Morons.

I have no idea, but the dominos are falling. It could mean a time change, and they are getting rid of the affiliates because of the difficulty in moving a show in three markets instead of one. Under the current schedule, if they are going to move, it would probably be a swap with the Junkies, and R&F would move to midday. If the Stern exit is imminent, it could mean something else entirely. Of course, there's also the worst scenario, which means they are leaving the airways in DC (this makes no sense to me, but switching Live 105.7 to "WHFS lite" doesn't make sense to me either. Whatever happens, I hope it ends up favorably for R&F. They've been dicked around by this company far too often.

I don't really know - I suspect that they, like everyone else, is just waiting to see what happens between Stern & Infinity and how all of that shakes out with the rest of the shows, and they just wanted to make their own personal situation as free as possible. I was just surprised to hear it was their decision.
I really get the impression that nothing is off the table at this point with them and the choices they will make for their future.

from dcrtv.com:
Live 105.7 Says Adios To "Shalom" - 1/22 - DCRTV hears that "ShalomUSA," a Jewish program which aired Sundays, is being dumped from Baltimore's Live 105.7. The station, as DCRTV has reported, is discontinuing its weekend and evening talk shows for alternative rock and personalities from the defunct format at WHFS. Producers of the show, which was in the midst four weeks of live programming from Israel, were notified Friday that the airtime was gone. "Would it really have mattered to the general community to give the Jewish community two hours each week for the next two weeks to finish the remotes from Israel? Poor public relations from Infinity," a show producer says. "ShalomUSA" is in negotiations to find a new local radio outlet.....

Supposedly the Junkies were pretty pissed off about it on the air today - they indicated that they were told they would be getting Balmer. And when someone called into the new OTL and asked if they were there warming the chairs for the Junks, they responded that the Junkies were a DC show, and they they were a Baltimore show.

Well - they've "wanted" Don and Mike for almost 15 years, not to mention giving the Junkies better ratings while at WHFS than DC did - oh! And Baltimorons didn't seem to mind where Ron and Fez were from.
Sounds like a PD up there is flexing trying to be a little cock-sure and tell the Infinity muckity-mucks what they can do with their plans.
i have written to live105 in support of the junkies, and you should too
I should? Why?
I'm not worried about the Junkies - this is Red State America and they will do just fine. I'm more concerned about The Ron and The Fez. I'd write about that dumb-headed move before I'd write about the Junkies - if I could find the contact information on the website.

Well, I couldn't find a regular e-mail address on their site, and I don't want to sign up for their crappy "e-mail" club. (http://www.live1057.com/email_club.shtml)but I did find the old R&F page which they no longer link to, but is still on their servers.

Argh!
"Ron and Fez had lost a show on a top FM station in the number 1 radio market in the USA. Speculation as to what would become of the R & F show were answered, when Ron and Fez were transferred to sister station, WJFK-FM in Washington D.C. and now they're on Baltimore's Live 105.7 from 7pm - 11pm!"

OK, so 105.7 a TALK station is now playing rock music.
They are bringing back a station with crappy ratings, and playing what it being played online.
The talk station is now half talk, half music.
I am actually in shock over the sheer stupidity of this decision to cancel Ron and Fez over more rock...when we ALREALY have DC 101 and 98ROCK.
So....I need to go to the station.
Where is the address of 105.7
Maybe we all need to get together one day, and be very obvious over our anger over the stations format change.
They say that people wanted HFS back so bad, that they brought it back. (and we all know thats B.S)
How about those that want HFS gone so bad, that they can take it away?

Reading it still makes my eyes bleed - Ray Bottoms' lamenting the demise of WNEW with the over dramatic "fate dealt R & F, and the entire talk format of the New York station a fatal blow in August 2002" - as if that was the only event in R&F's almost 20 years that defined them, OR that anyone in Baltimore would know what he was trying to say, OR even if they did WHY WOULD THAT MAKE YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO THEM!?!
I personally liked WB, but he deserved a neck slap for that in-itself.
Why? It's better than trying to pretend the NY days didn't happen which is what their WJFK bio reflects.
I'd argue that they were their happiest when they were in the number 1 radio market.
Ron: Are they lifeguards or lifepussies?!?!
You honestly think an Infinity station is going to go into what ultimately what forced R&F off of WNEW and out of New York, when the company views it as a giant embarassment?
I'm not saying it's right, but it shouldn't be unexpected. That said, it wouldn't be hard to say they were in NYC at some point in there careers. To act like it didn't happen at all is asinine.

It is great for a tribute site, but I took issue from a marketing point a view - trying to sell an unknown product to a community by not just mentioning a negative, but going out of the way to point it out, just in case anyone missed it.
Mizzle should have been asked to write something for Live 105 - he would have done it perfectly.

I found this email address ... i heard people were looking for one. It was on the "new" out to lunch page, but it seems like a generic address for the station.

have fun with it.

you don't have to go negative but their bio doesn't even mention that they were in nyc. they were able to mention florida w/o going neg.

Ron & Fez, featuring Ron Bennington and Fez Whatley, are already known as two of radio's most successful funnymen. As the "Ron & Fez" show they dominated morning radio throughout Florida in the mid-90's.
Now they're back...at WJFK! This is definitely not your father's radio show, but a trip through the funny, offbeat and unusual. It's high entertainment... interesting, weird, with lots of laughs... a guaranteed winner in Washington's fast-paced environment.

Maybe my calander is all whacked, but I lived in Tampa in the mid 90s, and I just remember Ron and Ron.
And Billy the phone freak, and Larry the cable guy, and flipper, and BA and Lynn Austin(?) and whomever.
Did they start RnF way back then?
Also, Harry Dangler was so fricken cool in the FLA lounge (w/ Fonda Peters) many moons ago.....
Any word on that nut?

My only point was about Baltimore & Live 105 and what was written - they obviously could have mentioned NY and FL without painting them as victims.
I'm not going to defend what was done on the WJFK website. Anyone who knows the histories knows that WJFK & Infinity has issues with what happened at WNEW - maybe something to do with the millions in lost revenue.
