Let's see here is alot of Met related items we call all talk about to get the Met 7 Train up and running!

-We got Omar at the helm with Willie. Do you love this combo?
-We already got Pedro, Beltran to the shock of many including myself.
-Still pissed at having Victor Zambrano in our rotation instead of Scott Kazmir (I bet Omar wouldn't have pulled the trigger on that one).
-Maybe we can still get Delgado (still holding out hope).
-Is David Wright the next Mike Schmidt?
-Why didn't WE sign Wade Miller? The Red Sox got him for alot nothing.
-Eric Byrnes and Chad Bradford for Mike Cameron and cash?
-Sammy Sosa for Cliff Floyd? Would you do it?
-Will Kaz finally figure out second base?
-Will Jose Reyes stay off the DL for a season?

Lets analyze each of these questions one at a time:

We got Omar at the helm with Willie. Do you love this combo?

Let's see if Omar can break the Met GM curse of trading away pitchers before they have a chance to fully develop. The organization has a history of trading away great pitchers before they were great, and/or when they were in their prime, or not reckognizing their true talent as pitchers (ie as a reliever or closer, etc). From Ryan to Seaver to Scott to Cone to Isringhausen and finally to Kazmir.

We already got Pedro, Beltran to the shock of many including myself

Yes but we lost a key leftie in Al Leiter. He was a leader on the team and their voice for the players union. Some say he cost Art Howe his job. I say that Howe lost it cause it was an over eager Met team by the time June/July rolled around. Combined with bad trades, also led to the untimely release of Al Leiter. Leiter absence will be felt this season.

Maybe we can still get Delgado (still holding out hope).

Fuck that guy. I see another Tony Fernandez episode with this guy. Want more references of why the Mets shouldnt get this guy, read The Worst Team Money Could Buy. About the 1992 Mutts.

Is David Wright the next Mike Schmidt?

Two words: Gregg Jeffries.

Why didn't WE sign Wade Miller? The Red Sox got him for alot nothing

You cant regret yesteryear, just steer the ship right. If you really want to bitch, bitch at the disaster that was the trades of 2001-2002 when we lost Rick Reed, and the rest of the bullpen.
Or even when the Mets refused to give Ray Knight $200,000 extra fucking dollars. Bitch about that.

Eric Byrnes and Chad Bradford for Mike Cameron and cash?

Cameron is a great defensive player, perfectly situated for a pitchers park such as Shea.

Sammy Sosa for Cliff Floyd? Would you do it?

Fuck no! Floyd is a better all-around player. While Sammy would be lost in that pitchers park, and he strikes out a hell of a lot more than Floyd. He would not survive in NY, especially with the Mets whose fans expect perfection for their money.

Will Kaz finally figure out second base?

Yes, and be damned good at it.

Will Jose Reyes stay off the DL for a season?

God-willing yes. And that will make a phenomenal infield.

We got Omar at the helm with Willie. Do you love this combo?

As long as Wilpon can keep his hand out of Omar's ass, I think we'll be alright. Im pretty glad we got Willie even though we havent seen what he can do.

We already got Pedro, Beltran to the shock of many including myself

Im estatic about the Beltran deal. Im iffy on Pedro. I wouldve rather pursued a guy like Pavano or Clement. Though thats not to say Pedro wont have a good year, just not nearly as good as 2002 Pedro...

Maybe we can still get Delgado (still holding out hope).

I think that hope keeps gatting smaller and smaller with every call or conference with the Rangers and Marlins. Though when talks first started, I thought he was sure to come to NY. Now...I think its lookin like Texas.

Is David Wright the next Mike Schmidt?

Too early to tell after less than half a season, but from what we did see, I think it'll be damn close. He'll definitely finish out his career as one of the best all around 3rd basemen ever...considering he can stay healthy unlike the other 2 Met rookies Reyes and Kaz...

Why didn't WE sign Wade Miller? The Red Sox got him for alot nothing

Dont want another Yankees scenario with too many starters, not enough spots...

Eric Byrnes and Chad Bradford for Mike Cameron and cash?

I would do this in a heartbeat...shit, Id be willing to do Cameron straight up for Byrnes. As opposed to the other alternative of course which is Jay Gibbons.

Sammy Sosa for Cliff Floyd? Would you do it?

Sammy is the better player, no doubt...but I dont do this because a)I hate the sumbitch.. b) Sammy makes over 10 million more than Floyd. c)I dont want another power hitter, I want an On Base guy, we're getting to the point where Cameron who hit 30 homers last year or Byrnes who hit over 20 would hit in the 8 hole...

Will Kaz finally figure out second base?

If he does Ill be extremely happy. But after what I saw last year I dont see it. The defense alone was horrid, and the numbers definitely need improvement.

Will Jose Reyes stay off the DL for a season?

Hm...lemme check my magic 8ball on this one...hm...all signs point to NO. As hopeful as I am, I also try to be realistic. Heres a guy who while rehabbing from yet ANOTHER leg injury, hurts his back 2 games from bein back in the big leagues. If he does, terrific, but just like Mike Piazza throwing out Juan Pierre...or Luis Castillo...or Mike Lowell....or Paul LoDuca....or Jeff Conine....or Migues Cabrera....it just aint happening.

-Why didn't WE sign Wade Miller? The Red Sox got him for alot nothing.

The Astros, who have Petitte with his bad elbow, didn't even tender him an offer. Why? Bad Rotator cuff. Which is not bad enough that he cant pitch, but is bad enough that he's not as effective as he once was, and cant last a season. He wont get it operated on because if he does he'll miss a season+, without pay since it happened in his walk year.
Might make more sense to do a Yankee/Lieber deal. Pay him a few mil to retain his rights, then a regular salary when he's healthy.

We got Omar at the helm with Willie. Do you love this combo?

No it's a 1st year manager and so far i feel like i'm going to have to go to shea with guacomole and a ghetto blaster.

We already got Pedro, Beltran to the shock of many including myself.

See above

Still pissed at having Victor Zambrano in our rotation instead of Scott Kazmir (I bet Omar wouldn't have pulled the trigger on that one).

Why not? I think Zambrano is Latino. Kazmir will be a number 1 starter for the yankees in a few years.

Maybe we can still get Delgado (still holding out hope).

NO. Mientcievich (sp) is a better glove.

Is David Wright the next Mike Schmidt?

I'll settle for the next Scott Rolen and nothing less.

Why didn't WE sign Wade Miller? The Red Sox got him for alot nothing.

Because we're the Mets.

-Eric Byrnes and Chad Bradford for Mike Cameron and cash?

In a heartbeat.

Sammy Sosa for Cliff Floyd? Would you do it?

NO...Floyd and Matsui for Ramirez and bullpen help. they want to dump that 20 mil anyway.

Will Kaz finally figure out second base?

Why would he? He played his entire career and short and doesn't look like he's figured THAT out.

Will Jose Reyes stay off the DL for a season?

Oh, you mean Mr. Glass? Not likely.

I'm excited for the season to start but i'm fully expecting to be out of it by july 1st.

Touche' Kevin.

Nolan Ryan was an ok pitcher for us. Turned out to be a great strikeout guy, but has an average W-L percentage.

Dykstra had 2 or 3 good years after us.

If that was Izzy's picture, c'mon now. The guy was stuck in a rut for us, wasn't getting it done, constantly hurt. They did right by Izzy trading him because he woulda been nothing here.

However.

Yup, thats Bill Pulsipher if you can't recognize him.

Prospects are just that. PROSPECTS. When will you people ever learn? For every Gooden, Dykstra, or Nolan Ryan (Who by the way, are 20, 20 and 40 years ago) There are 20 Pulsipher, Hielman, Strange, etc, etc, etc. You kept your 2 big jewels, Wright and Reyes. The book is still LONG out on Kazmir. Dont go nuts over a couple of starts, which by the way, were mixed.

Thank you Mr. Bulldog.

Victor Zambrano is fucking filthy. If he can get a lasso on the strike zone, he'll be phenomenal.

Plus, the way we're spending, maybe in 5 years, we go get Kazmir back.

Because they were Top Prospects with Talent. Turning around means a person that was down most of their career and suddenly found it because of him. Like what Mazzoni does in Atl with Wright and Hammond and many others. Tell me one Met Pitcher that over achived with him. Every guy they have brought up has to be sent back down.

Looper had a good season last year. Mike Dejean was also solid after he came on board. Heredia blows, but if i'm not mistaken pedro feliciano is also a lefty (he is in mvp 05). He's not going to turn anyone around really, Glavine has been doing what he does for about 15 years, and Pedro has been around awhile so you're not gonna teach those guys new tricks. Just teach Zambrano to throw strikes, and work on Benson's mechanics to he's healthy at the end of the season. Yates is hurt so i'd rather see him work with the young guys like Humber, Petit and Solis.

Kaz looked pretty good at second, except the miscommunication between him and Reyes. I know better pitchers in my local league than Aaron Heilman. And every "expert" like tim kirkjean (who reminds me of the nerdy kid that couldnt play sports but could tell you mackey sasser's batting average in little league) is already getting on my nerves saying the mets will finish no better than 4th.

Robbie Alomar Retires (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2017030)

the 37-year-old switch-hitter has been bothered by back and vision problems in recent weeks.

"I played a lot of games and I said I would never embarrass myself on the field," Alomar said. "I had a long career, but I can't play at the level I want to play, so it's time to retire."

He said he had doubts even entering camp.

"I just can't go anymore," Alomar said. "My back, legs and eyes aren't the same."

And you guys thought he didn't like playing in NY, that he was jaking it. Turns out he was done, and the Indians traded him at just the right time.

The year before we got him he hit .336 20HR 100 RBI 30 SB. If anyone knew for a fact that he was done then they are a fucking genius. And what did we give up for him? Matt Lawton and Alex Escobar? I'd do that trade again in a second. There's no way anyone he would drop off like that.

Some guys lose it in a hurry.

When the Yanks picked up Cecil Fielder in 96, there were whispers about him losing bat speed. He was never the old Cecil Fielder with the Yanks. Even though he had a good year the year before.

When its injury related, its you're fault for not catching it. Chalk another one up for the medical staff that year.

My point wasn't about the trade, it was about how people knocked him, particularily Gary Cohen who tore him apart and called him "disgraceful". Said he was playing half heartedly. Easy to look like that if you're hurt.
Turns out the guy was just done. Think Gary will admit he was wrong and apologize? I'm still waiting.

Where does it say he was hurt with the Mets? It says he had back and vision problems in recent weeks, not years.

And Cecil Fielder was fat and out of shape. Guys in that condition can go at any time.

I took the back, vision, and legs comment to mean that his overall body was in decline. Could be injury related or just age.
Either way, he put up the same #'s after he left the Mets as he did with them. .260's, no power, etc. Which means he was done, and Gary Cohen was dead wrong to knock him.

He also used to tell him not to slide into first, which drove me nuts. A lock hall of famer and Gary Cohen(who never played a day in the majors) is telling him how to play baseball. Nice you shithead. Hey Gary, why dont you tell the Pope how to give mass while you're at it?

I still don't get how this is a big deal. He has a good winning % but other then that he's not that great and he walks eveyone and averages less then 6 innings a start in his career, has a 4.30 ERA. Why not let Ginter start and see if there is a better pitcher out there a little later.

They have Mike Matthews and a Korean guy named Koo who are both lefties and have pitched a lot better then Heredia has in spring training. They do need bullpen help but I'm not sure where they'll get it. There's been that rumor about Urbina but I think they'll let the season start and see how the bullpen performs before they go out and get somebody.

1992, The worst team money could buy?? This one may be giving that one a run for the money. I know it is early, only 5 games in, but when the only history you are aiming to set is one set by the 1962-1964 Mets, you have problems. They stink, BUT I still like them. Hopefully we wont be talking another 16 games from now when the attempt to break the 1988 Baltimore Orioles record of starting the season 0-21.

that castillo hit could have and in my opinion should have been scored an error. tough play but you're at home and the mets never threw a no hitter.

Well, Shea will be rocking today. Sold out. Pedro's home debut vs. Al Leiter. I'm really looking foward to this game.

And how good has Doug Meintkiewicz been? He's made some outstanding plays with his glove and he's hitting over .300. It was nice to see Delgado make that awful play at first last night.

aight this needs to be said. now, generally, i hate the mets. for
some reason i never liked them. to the point i actually began rooting
for the braves since i couldnt watch sox games in jersey, just because
i didnt wanna watch the mets or yankees.

that being said, for
some reason, im liking the feeling of things around here. the yankees
are struggling, so those fans are quiet, and im startin to gain a small
respect for met fans now that i finally hear them.

its
kinda like the mets fans are about their team. they arent bashing
anybody else's fans, except philly fans but everyone loves bashing
them. they are just into there team and have a respectful view about
baseball. ive gone to shea in braves jerseys, and aside from the few
expected verbal jabs, nobody ever fucked with me.

now that the mets are playin well, maybe some yankee AND some red sox and alot of other teams fans should take some notes.

not philly though, keep being dicks so we can keep hating you

Snoogans, a few comments about your post

1)Of course you hate the Mets, You're a Red Sox fan. 1986, anyone?

2)
Lets not lionize Mets fans. Fans of every team bash everybody else. I'm
a Yankee fan and all I hear about is payroll, steroids, Announcers
(Sterling/Suzyn Waldman) are horrible, George is a maniac, etc.
Non-Yankee fans say "Thats all true". Yankee fans say its bashing. All
depends which side of the fence you're on.

But I'm glad to see
the Mets and their fans have something to cheer about, its been a
while. Maybe they can make it back to the World Series again soon. So
we can beat them again! Hooooooo ahhhhhh!!!!!!
Can placebos cause side effects? And if so, are the side effects real?

So...are you saying that the Yankees payroll isnt the highest in
baseball at over 200 million, Giambi and Sheffield never took steroids
and Suzyn Waldman doesnt need a cinder block to the face?
