View Full Version : Does playing D&D make you an instant Geek?
Death Metal Moe

Today, I was talking to my co-worked John about the smell in an RV we were in at the time.
He said something about it having "The Stench of Ass" and it made me think of D&D. As in "I attack you with The Stench of Ass for 3 D6 damage." So I told him about what I was thinking, and he looked at me like he just caught me with my finger in a girlscout.
Then, he actually started saying I was a dork for having played D&D. I shot back that I was shocked that he'd never even played ONCE in his life. I thought like EVERYONE has at least tried the game.
So I let you decide. Does playing D&D make you an INSTANT GEEK, or is it OK to have just been curious?
I will admit that continuous playing to the point that the game takes over large parts of your life is geeky.

Whereas the girlscout thing mighta brought a look of pride and respect, D+D gets you scorn and humiliation. Sorry Moe.

no i don't think so. I used to play AD&D (because lets face it, regular D&D is for losers) and It was fun. But i do think there's a point when it becomes sad.
Really, no man should play it after 14.

Thats a very good point.
As I write this, I am staring at my new 19" flat panel monitor that I can't stop drooling over. It is hooked up to my custom built PC. I am such a computer dork. I did math problems for fun tonight.
BUT, i have never played D&D

I've played several role playing games.
They are fun. It's like acting out a fantasy novel. Which I still read to this day.

I can see if someone played the game day in and day out, and made it a goal to be the greatest dungeon master. Then those people are geeks. If you played from time to time that doesnt make you a geek, or gay.
It's not gay, it's makes you creative...
OK it's gay, but I was more of a Marvel Comics role playing gamer. I dont know if playing as Spiderman, or my own super hero is less gay, but I always enjoyed playing.
If anyones played a role playing video game, like Zelda or Final Fantasy, then you've played versions of D&D. It all was originated from these dice rolling roll playing games.
Oh and I've also played ALOT of stratomatic baseball too. Would that be gay?

No, but wearing your Spiderman underoos in a fort with 4 guys chasing after you in Joker outfits certainly is.
I've always just been a sports guy. Baseball Football + Basketball are the only games I play, either computer or otherwise. I don't have time to chase rings and beat up goblins and that shit, but I'll choose teams and recreate seasons for hours at a time.

yes ... very, very geeky
no ... not gay, unless there was naughty touching
any fantasy baseball, football, hockey and/or basketball league also qualifies ...
all these activites involve a greater understanding of the subject matter, and the devoted attention span ...
and from reading this board over the last few years, i would say at least eighty percent of the posters are geeks ... (at the very least R/F geeks)
geek, geek total geek ...

well If you put it that way then running around trying to wrestle a man to the floor while he runs away holding his ball sounds gay too.
I'm a huge sports guy. I play baseball, football, hockey, tennis, golf, and basketball. Those are all great to keep you body active. Playing Role playing games are great ways to keep kids minds active. Allowing them to be creative. I think its good for people to live out fantasies and day dreams.
