First off i wait until i have a good day or two before the paper is due to actually sit down and go over all the material i need to cover within the paper.

From there i start the introduction and within 20 minutes i lose any sign of focus i was showing to begin with.

I end up writing about 100-200 words, go back, read it and think to myself "this teacher is going to be reading this and asking himself what the fuck im even talking about".

My final drafts always exceed the amount of words needed(a paper due wednesday was 1000 words, i went up to 1235). I don't know how to skim the fat off of what i write because i feel like it's all needed in the final copy to present what im really trying to get at.

Right now im working on a 3 page paper that's due Tuesday. We're supposed to summarize an article about the effects of Reconstruction and even though im attentive in class and pass all my quizes with high marks i just don't feel like im covering the right work that's being asked of us.

I try talking to my teachers about it but they're so fucking elusive in their answers that i just give up and go back to my original way of working.

I guess i should just write the way i feel is best for me, personally?

My shitty posts aren't even concise.

Yes. If it gets you the grades you want.

In fact, they were shown in a closeup within 60 seconds of the final out. And every Red Sox fan is determined to pretend that this never happened, and that it didn't taint the moment even a little bit ... so it wasn't a huge deal.

Here's what I do when coming up with an essay. First and most important, what are you trying to say? That's your thesis statement. Then, before you write the paper, come up with ideas that back up your statement. Depending on your paper, these could be historical facts, anecdotes, or definitions, etc. Once you've come enough ideas to back up your essay, start typing it out with that outline (either written or in your head). Keep writing until you're done, don't look back and try to proofread yourself before your finished. Once you're done. Reread the paper, do any necessary rewriting/editing. Then tie it up with a conclusion. The hardest part isn't the writing, it's just coming up with what you want to write about given the subject matter.

Create an outline of your essay ahead of time and focus on what you want to say. Write your introduction and conclusion last.

there's software now so that teachers can input a student's paper, and have it analyzed for plagiarism ...

best bet is to put everything on paper first, then re-read and then edit ...

and just don't over analyze ...

There is computer program available to educators. They can enter a pupil's essay and have it evaluated for plagiarism. The best thing to do is to put the whole thing on paper first. Next re-read and then amend. My advice: just don't be excessive in your analysis.

Create an outline of your essay ahead of time and focus
on what you want to say. Write your introduction and
conclusion last.

couldn't agree more. outline!!! have a point for each paragraph
and then some evidence supporting that point. Then write the
intro and conclusion by just listing the point of each paragraph.
This is the most basic, straight forward, (and often fastest) way
to write an essay.

Often the best writing is simple. Say what you want to say,
support it, and get out.

By far, the best book on how to write is "Elements of Style" by
Strunk and White.

I was always the guy who got his point across in essays too quickly, and it looked like too little. So I became the king of filler and bullshit. It was really sad because it shows me that a teacher was hardly reading what I wrote, and looking mostly for volume.

I was never like this before, i think half of it is due to that the teachers don't expand on what they want us to do. We just read the syllabus and go from there, email them if we have questions or ask in class.

The other half is that im just in this perpetual state of "i am going to fail". Which doesn't help the fact that i have to focus on writing without mental interruption.

Nevertheless, i wrote 4 pages on the one due Tuesday so i'm just finishing it tomorrow when my head is clear.

And thanks for the suggestions, they were/will be helpful.

I rule at essays and papers.

As long as they made up the bulk of a classes big grades or tests, I could slack my ass off all semester, because my skill as a bullsheeeeet artiste would save my ass with an "A" every time.

Pay me the duckets and I'll do 'em for you.

if Edward Norton and white supremecists have taught me anything its to always end an essay with a profound quote from another person. Chances are someones already said it better so you might as well steal it.

Write comfortably. If you write up to your abilities and within the teacher's guidelines, however vague they may be, you're sure to do well.
