it makes sense. R and F are getting jerked around in DC getting prempted by stupid nfl shows 7 months b4 the season starts. why wouldnt they wanna come to XM and do afternoons on 202 nationwide and dont tell me they have more listeners in DC then they would have at XM. Xm has 3 million subs, rumor is the O and A channel will be free soon so u figure it will open them up to build an audience from the 3 million and the new subs

Does anyone know when their current contract is up?
I know R&F couldn't talk about it, but wouldn't O&A be able to say something about this if their were talks? They do mention R&F once in a while but I have yet to catch even a hint that they would be joining O&A on XM.

Well let me say the DCRVT XM rumor has caused quite a lot of interest on the XM investor boards. I for one am only here because of it. As an XM investor and one with 5 subscriptions to XM, I listened to the R&F clip concerning Elton John and was amazed on how funny these guys really are. BTW, they missed the point that AirTrans is really promoting XM and not Elton John. XM is presently on 3 aircraft but will be on their entire fleet by EOY. Jet Blue will be rolling out XM in the very near future.
If you fans really want to listen to these guys, XM is the place for them to be IMO. When you consider XM vs. SIRI you should consider a few factors.
XM presently has over 3.2 million listeners and is projected to have over 5.5 million by EOY (I figure over 6 million). SIRI has about 1.2 million and projects 2.5. Stern will help them reach that, but SIRI is IMO in great financial peril. They are paying Stern 500 million over 5 years if he is in demand or lives that long.
Although there are rumors that O&A will be moved to free channels, I personally don't think so as that would curtail their ability to express themselves. By bringing J&F to the same channel 202, it would open up the "un-inhibited talent" of J&F. I say this as SDARS on pay-for-listen channels is not subject to FCC fines. It would also give them immediate Natiowide exposure, not considering Canada, which will not be able to have Stern, because he will be free on SIRI. Canada is about 10% the American market. I believe that they will have a follow-on show to O&A. RE: O&A, I personally would not pay the additional 2 bucks per month to just listen to them, but add R&F and I would be their in the time it takes me to make an 800 number call.
Another SIRI/XM comparison is that XM has now affiliated with almost 60% of the auto OEM market and is being very heavily FIed buy Honda and GM. Toyota will follow soon and Nissan is not far behind.
There are so many factors to list, and I hate to type, but the jest of this post is that IMO, if they are considering moving to a SDARS nation audience, it would be in their and your best interest to align with XM.
Any thoughts, I will be wwatching.

This has nothing to do with R&F, but I just thought it was cool to see the AirTran XM Installs mentioned, because our little company down here did the engineering for the 717 installations, and we manufactured the prototype and the first 10 structural and electrical installation kits (Number 10 ships out tomorrow). There should be around 88 717's flying with this system by the spring, and we're working on the 737 design now. LiveTV will be the STC holder and scheduling the mod's, but I would guess that they will all be complete in 2005.
They're actively marketing this to all of the major airlines, although our part of this project will be complete in a few months, so I have no idea who will be next, or when.
I'm looking at purchasing a new vehicle this spring, and I'm considering getting XM "just in case" something happens with the boys.

Great to here about your XM adventure.
Let me assure you that once-if you do- get XM you will never go back to regular terristeral radio.
You will probably never burn and probably not buy a CD again.
It is amazing how much they have to offer for $10 per month or 6.99 per month for your second subscription.

Yes.
"Old School" NY listener
If New Yorkers are "Old School" listeners, what would that make the people in Florida who heard them in the 1980s and 1990s? "Ancient School"???
By bringing J&F to the same channel 202, it would open up the "un-inhibited talent" of J&F.
Since when are Jefe and Fez doing a show?? Wow! That would be hot, and finally free up Ron do work with Dubs like he's always wanted to do.
Siriusly...I mean, seriously, Ron and Fez have been in the business for more years than much of the talent out there and they don't need to be on anyone else's premium channel. As I have said elsewhere, the channels that O&A and Stern will be programming would be best served by up-and-coming shows, not a team with a proven record to make it in real radio.
And someone who thinks that R&F are just chomping at the bit to say "cunt" or "taint" on the radio (since that's what's missing from their show, since they are so ""un-inhibited"), obviously don't really know them or the show very well, or have heard Bobo sing his little song.
There is enough interest in R&F (because of what they have been able to do in Washington in the last 2 years and because of the Stern ripple effect) that when they became free, odds are they will go with XM or Sirius only if they are allowed to be on terestrial as well, like Liddy - which would mean a move to another market (in the mornings, would be my radio psychic), and with a different company.

If you read my entire post that you reference, you would notice that I stated I had just come here and had never heard them before. I thought tey were very funny in the clip and would enjoy listening to them.
Because they are and have been on terrestial radio and the fine for indency have now been raised to a maximum of $500k per incident, how can you be so sure that profanity would not be on their agenda?
If XM did bring them aboard, I personally believe it would only be as an exclusive-not like Dr. Laura, Liddy and many other syndicated shows. The best I can tell with limited DD, J&F are really not syndicated and would only be brought on board to augment XM "Shock Jock" Channel. IMO this would be a great deal for both.

I thought the "official" reason to have O&A as a premium station was to protect XM for people accidentally dialing them up to avoid issues with offending people.
If that is indeed the case, I can't see a SEPARATE premium channel for Ron and Fez, since their level of humor would be XL rated, not "premium". I could see R&F on their own stream, or on High Voltage.

How? You mean people didn't hear either Ron or Fez during the "Ron and Ron" days? Fez wasn't part of that show? They didn't market CD's of him doing the "Nature Boy"? I mean - my quote was simply "people in Florida who heard them in the 1980s and 1990s" not "people in Florida who heard The Ron and Fez Show in the 1980s and 1990s.
Besides, New York didn't invent the "Ron and Fez Show" - they hitched their wagons together in Dayton in 1998, two years before coming to NY.
So...how again was I proven wrong?

If You Take the letters in Ron & Fez (R,O,N,F,E,Z) and you go back two letters in the alpahabet for each letter -
R = P
O = M
N = L
F = D
E = C
Z = X
If you take the resulting letters (PMLDCX) and you rearrange them you get the following: XM, DC, LP -
which means that Ron & Fez will be on XM in their DC studios, and they are going to be playing records (LP).

First off, I'm happy to hear this even might happen, and it does kinda make sense. From what I remember from the WNEW days, I think I remember hearing that R+F and O&A have the same agent...which may or may not still be the case. If it is, it is probably easier than an agent who hasn't dealt with them before.
Secondly, O&A have made it clear on their XM show they don't want to share their channel with anyone, even someone they are friends with. It doesn't mean and AFRO shows aren't going to happen with cross promotion, because radio stations aren't competiting with each other, but complement each other on satelite...which will kinda be like the old days @ WNEW.
XM just added Dr Laura and G Gorden Liddy, and are looking to extend their talk show hosts..in addition to O&A and the usual stuff (Sean Hannity, ESPN radio, Fox News, etc)
R+F will probably be put on the "Extreme XM" channel which was originally all "extreme" comedy but has moved to add talk shows..(Liddy right now, someone else I forgot)
I would prefer to have Ron and Fez at night, which will also help them gain an audience on the west coast. O&A are 3AM-7AM, which is the worst time...but XM brought them over to do just mornings and kinda put a flag in the ground...
Good news is it puts Ron and Fez in literally every market, although on a smaller scale to the satelite audience...

If You Take the letters in Ron & Fez (R,O,N,F,E,Z) and you go back two letters in the alpahabet for each letter -
R = P
O = M
N = L
F = D
E = C
Z = X
If you take the resulting letters (PMLDCX) and you rearrange them you get the following: XM, DC, LP -
which means that Ron & Fez will be on XM in their DC studios, and they are going to be playing records (LP).
Brilliant!
GET ME DCRTV!

The difference between me and Curtoid is that whenever somebody proves me wrong or shows that I have holes in my argument, I'll back off and/or apologize.
Curtoid won't, and he'll change logic and reasoning to fit his own needs to avoid being made a fool of, even though it'll make him look worse.
Curtoid, your reasoning about Ron and Ron and Ron and Fez being the same show is weak. It's like saying All in the Family and the Jeffersons are the same show, when they aren't, even though they have roots together.

WHY IS THERE STILL AN ARGUMENT ABOUT THIS? This may be the most retarded board argument of the year.
Frankly, Tenbatsuzen, the glee you found in someone "catching" curtoid on what was essentially an off-hand remark, is a tad disturbing. Go do radio insider stuff or something.

Of course I'm never wrong - of course I never apologize - that's crazy talk. And as far as taking a 5 word post and writing more about it than needs to be - I've always plead guilty on that. That's not a problem; it's a lack of a blog.
And if fair is fair, isn't that what happened here?
Curtoid, do you think if you really tried hard, you could possibly be less likable? I submit that you cannot.
If I tried? You mean if I took things written on a messageboard seriously and actually made an effort to hurt people's feelings, instead of worrying about what some thin-skinned troll is going to freak out over next?

Good sweet fucking Jesus.
Please show me where I said this. The point was Ron AND Fez had fans in Florida before they had fans in New York. It said nothing of their shows.
And either you know this and you are just trying to bait me again, or you really are such a sycophant that anything I say is going to be suspect, regardless of whether or not you actually read it.

orbitcast.com (http://www.orbitcast.com) is at it again with this one:
Ron & Fez / XM Rumor Update
There's a swarm of excitment behind the possibility of Ron and Fez joining up with XM Satellite Radio, and I've been getting emails about it like crazy lately - so I want to give a quick update on where we're at now. Since there haven't been any official announcements made, I must stress that this is all very much speculation, so don't ruin your shorts just yet.
According to sources, Ron and Fez have been conducting discussions with XM regarding joining up, but nothing has been signed as of yet. The contract with Infinity still remains as a major roadblock for this happening anytime soon, but with the pulling of Ron and Fez from certain markets there's some question whether the contract would be cut short.
Questions as to whether Ron and Fez would get their own channel, or whether they'd be part of XM 202 are too premature to ask. You need a contract first before any of that will happen. We'll have to wait before we can guess what programming changes would be made.
So there you have it. Speculate away.

Well, we can speculate who their sources are - and naturally a contract with one company would be a roadblock with another company. The only reason that even is in mentioned (and this is according to my sources) is because XM is very interested in running R&F right now, with them on WJFK.
And R&F were only pulled in Baltimore. The Tampa, Florida station was their decision.

BTW - where were all of you chuckle-heads when I posted a serious quesiton in the official O&A thread a few weeks about regarding Andy Gore? Hmmm?
Actually, we're having a little bit of fun with a speculation thread. Nothing wrong with that.
I couldn't agree more. Nothing more zany than fans of a radio show that pretends to mock morning zoos behave like fans of a morning zoo - in Washington they are called "Don and Mike fans."
1st rule is always have the little inside joke catch phrases that are said over and over again, and create a sense of community and belonging.
You get very standoffish, Curtoid. It's like whenever O&A are mentioned, you get the same look on your face that Dr. Smith got whenever Judy Robinson walked into the room.

* - Saying "some" kind of indicates that I wasn't talking about everyone. If I yell, "Hey retard!" in an open room, the people who look to see if I'm talking about them shouldn't get cranky if they turn their necks.
* - This is still a "Ron and Fez" message board, so being obsessed with that particular show on here should not be a bad thing. If I went to "The Hideout" and talked on and on about "Ron and Fez" (even though the two shows are friends) might be considered obnoxious by some.
* - Aren't you the same person who, just a couple of days ago, came on here and called "Ron and Fez" - "The Gay Guy and Cigar Smoking Guy from Philadelphia"?
Yeah - I can see why Crippler got pissed at me for not embracing you with open arms.

Damn it - I was going to do that old bit 2 days ago, but I figured the thin skinned whiners would take that as another personal attack, like joking about Florida vs. NY fans.
Funny how the personal attacks are allowed on here - hmmmm - kind of a double standard, but nothing really new. Not a complaint, just an observation, mind you.
Next time I should listen to my first instincts.

Here's a weekly timeline - DCRTV's piece was very small, but very effective.
* On Thursday Ron talked about working with Billy Staples again one day...
* Last Friday DCRTV reported rumors of R&F maybe going to XM...
* Over the weekend it was repeated on orbitcast.com...
* On Monday Jeff confirmed on here with his sources that there was truth in the rumor, but nothing was signed yet; orbitcast.com would later update their blurb with this nugget...
* On Tuesday Ron talked about having not slept in the last week - more than likely unrelated (Hunter S. Thompson did die, after all) but who knows (aside from me) what he has on his mind...
* Last night Ron (jokingly?) talked with Mikey D. about how good the good ol' days were...

You know, if I was as thinned skinned as some obsessed radio show fans, feelings might be hurt, but since this went from a joke, to Tenbats lies about what I said, to the group pile on (not the first time), to yet another thread on Opie and Anthony on a Ron and Fez board, things have happened that make this thread even sweeter - so please - don't stop, ladies.
ladies! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that's terrific, that's terrific.
Curtoid, let me help you out. If you haven't figured out yet, there's a phrase called "pushing someone's buttons", or if we're meaner, "teasing the retart".
Whatever you call it, its fun if nothing else.
I couldn't agree more. Nothing more zany than fans of a radio show that pretends to mock morning zoos behave like fans of a morning zoo - in Washington they are called "Don and Mike fans."
Oh NO!!!!!! he called O & A morning zoo!! I am PISSED!! MOBILIZE THE ARMY!!!!!
please, as if that wasn't a lame enough attempt to get underneath O&A fans' skins, now let's compare O&A to D&M!!!! yea, that'll get us enraged!!

1st rule is always have the little inside joke catch phrases that are said over and over again, and create a sense of community and belonging.
Yea, whoever does that are so morning zoo. And sophisticated Ron & Fez listeners would never stand for it, and neither would Ron or Fez. They would never do anything like the Big ASS card or Big Ass anything to create a sense of community.
Your arguments would make me half smile in disgust if they weren't so lame.

Was it in response to XM being in the news? It could be simply them reading the news and commenting on it, and really nothing more.
Of course, with O&A soon to be off of the premium service, it might be more realistic for R&F to join up on that channel than before.
Is Ron just playing with us???
Yes and no.
Yes he's playing with us (he is aware of what goes on here on the message board, to a degree), but it is based in the reality that they are keeping their options open for when their contract expires. The reality is they keep their business to themselves, and even people who work close with them have no real idea what's going on.
I stand by my baseless speculation that if they can, they will stay at WJFK. If they can't make it work out, look for them to go to mornings in another market for a company that will allow them to simulcast over satellite; their last resort will be exclusivity on either XM or Sirius.

No, it was pretty much out of the blue. They were talking about Fez and his medication. Fez was remembering when he started feeling happy again, which resulted in him not needing his medication, and mentioned specifically being on Fox 5 as a happy time. And Ron chimes in with, 'and we were listening to XM in car on the way back'...

Wow - talk about reaching! I thought it was pretty clear that I was talking about the 1974 television show "Good Times" with Esther Rolle as "Florida" Evans and Jimmy Walker as her oldest child, and Ja'net DuBois as Willona - Florida's sassy neighbor, who really came into her own once Florida's husband, James, died in the classic "DAMN! DAMN! DAAAAAAMN!" episode at the start of Season Four.
Season Four Just Came Out On DVD (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0006VL1JM/qid=1109796769/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-7414166-7047805?v=glance&s=dvd)
Best sit-com ever. Ja'net DuBois aslo wrote, composed and sang "Movin' on Up" - the theme to "The Jeffersons," another excellent 1970s sit-com.

Not to be a Cap'n Killjoy again, but it was simply a funny coincidence - they were talking about "The Blues Brothers" last night because tonight former intern, Ogre, is going to do the "Four Fried Chicken" challenge, inspired by the movie.
They've been talking about doing this for over a month, and the reason Ogre decided to do it tonight was because tomorrow is the 23rd anniversary of John Belushi's death.

Since Friday's show eluded to them changing their schedule to 7-11, I think the following is my ideal O&A 202 schedule.
07:00 - 11:00 O&A Live
11:00 - 04:00 O&A replay or R&F previous day replay
04:00 - 08:00 O&A replay
08:00 - 11:00 R&F Live
11:00 - 12:00 Scott Ferrall Live
12:00 - 04:00 R&F replay
04:00 - 07:00 O&A variety/worst-of
My own reasoning is that I work from 8-5 so I can hear O&A from 7-8 basically, I'd love to be able to then catch the rest of the show on my drive home from 4-8, this way I'd be able to hear the whole show. 11-4 could either be a replay of O&A or R&F show from the previous day would be pretty cool too.

You're not very good at math, are you? You just made the first O&A replay five hours.
Plus, R&F wouldn't be on tapedelay. If they were brought in, they would be live.
Plus, O&A's replays would be throughout the day to cover AM drive for all the time zones.
7-11 OA live
11-3 Replay 1
3-7 Replay 2
7-11 R&F Life
11-2 Ferrall
2-6 Replay 3
6-7 Variety hour
Ferrall also has to be more than an hour. They wouldn't bring a personality in just for an hour long show.

R+F are under contract until June so they cannot appear on another radio network. I'm assuming the buddies will catch up together while in DC>
Where is all this Scott Ferrell stuff coming from? I heard how the R+F stuff came up and both shows have been dropping hints...but where does Scott Ferrell fit into everything?
Oavirus.com.
"None on us" O&A
"Billy Staples is a big waist" R+F

i have been wondering this as well. what are they thinking, recreating WNEW?? I know we all loved it, but look at the ratings, that station was basically in the toilet in terms of ratings. O&A did well and R&F were OK, but ferral never caght on. plus he is a loose cannon, doesn't show for work. he is funny when he was a guest on O&A, but his show was not that great.

If Ron or Fez make any appearance on O&A this week (they are scheduled to be in DC, right?), then the writing is on the wall.

I think it's because Ferrell was mentioned by Opie when he listed off the people in radio that they were friends with that he thought were "real " and not assholes. Ron and Fez were on that list as well.

I could not agree more. Lets not start thinking just because O&A like someone that they are going to give them a radio show on their channel. They want 202 to succeed, and even though ferral may be funny, most people can only stand him in 5 minute incriments.

Definitely.
I mean, I enjoyed him as a guest, but even that got tiresome if he was on for more than half an hour.
Honestly, the man works best as a drop.
Besides, his biggest fan here is DJEvelEd.
I rest my case.

Hey may be "real," but he's a radio canker sore.
For the record, the Ferrall show that was heard on WNEW was less than Ferrall Light compared to his old Westwood One syndicated show. WNEW wouldn't let him do what he does best, plus it was a morning show which is not exactly his time of day.
A nice three hour show, late night, and letting him get back to doing the show he wants to do would produce a show that was highly entertaining.

Eh. I personally didn't think "Ferrall on the Bench" was much better.

You're not very good at math, are you? You just made the first O&A replay five hours.
Actually that's pretty good math for me after coming in from a three hour car ride from Jersey.

You could start looking past who they know and like, to what shows also share the same listerners, but don't have some sort of thing against - shows like The Junkies and/or The Hideout.
When O&A were in DC, and that silly radio feud was going on, The Junkies seemed to go out of their way not to talk shit about them.
Awesome!

Just stop right there. You don't know how their contract works, you don't know how it's structured, you are not Joel Hollander, so to speak in "definites" like that makes you look really, really bad.

Friend of the show. Currently unemployed.

Yeah, but you countered it by being a definitive asshole, so it all balances out.
