couldn't have said it any better Mojo i mean xm is good but for that price i could buy some dvds and cds that i could use over and over. but to really enjoy xm you need to buy all the equiment for home, car and work and the installation to the car, i love music just as much as the next person but i can download what i want for free or buy the cd cheaper and get all the bands songs so i would really only use if for OnA and RnF and if you only have dial up listening online is pretty much out of the question...so yes its a monthly fee on top of the equipment on top of the starting fee and it just seems like a hassle

All I'd want to hear is R&F. O&A would be a nice bonus, but suddenly having to pay for basically the ONLY thing on ANY kind of radio I want to hear would really, REALLY blow.

o & a will hook you with the virus. ron and fez uncensored should cripple you with laughter.
what is funny on tv. the same 6 jokes for twenty five years.
every day i have some laughs listening to xm.
is it worth it. only if you are willing to be entertained.
some of you may think , well ok, but ron and fez are funny enough for free. you folks will wait until they are edited and rebroadcast.
some of you will say ok, ill give ron and fez a shot on xm. you folks will laugh so hard you may have to pull your car over, regain your senses, catch your breath, breath a sigh of holy shit then resume driving until the next fit of laughter.
all in all the thought police are not yet on satelite or cable so you can still laugh at things that are funny, not pre programed by big brother

I was talking to a friend of mine, and he was like XM is really good, and I was like, yeah......
I shucked it, and I shucked it, and I shucked it, i'm quite the mother shucker
getting XM isn't a hassle. obviously if you are on a very tight budget it isn't a wise investment but I bought my radio and got a free home kit thru the O and A special which if ron and fez come I'm sure they would give that speacial again to ron and fez fans. i am able to listen in the car and at home all i do is pop out the unit from the car and put it in the home kit. its very portable. the reception is excellent. the whole steup cost me $50. no startup fees. I pay 9 dollars a month ( i locked in for 2 years). It's very reasonable

Some of you have lost sight of the fact that Ron and Fez are making the move to XM based upon the speculation found in this, and a few other threads. Stop talking about it as if they've actually announced anything. It's just so silly anymore......
Can we just get back to the speculation ? That was fun.

If not create one and call it the "Death Metal Censor". Please.

My problem with XM is I'll get so little return on the cash...
Look, I know they have a "great" music selection. Mine's better. I'm a complete music nerd, and most of the "new bands" I see on their playlists I've been listening to for months, so listening to their music stations holds about as much appeal as listening to commercial radio.
Sports on the radio? No thanks, gramps.

I have no idea if all the teasing of "getting the band back together" & "the Dan and Dan show" are just an elaborate work or not but I hope it is true. I realize that everybody, probably subconsciously, always reaches the conclusion that what is best for R&F is the result that is most convenient for their own personal listening pleasure and I suppose I'm no different. I give thanks and props to the lords of the netherworld but I'd prefer to listen to them on a stable platform where the boys are getting paid. IMHO, R&F is the most consistently entertaining show I've ever experienced, in any medium.
I don't know the day to day operations of the radio bidness, but I do know a little about business models. If I was running XM, I'd follow the HBO model - get some exclusive programming that is great and that turns its admittedly small audience (in the beginning) into evangelicals spreading the word to all their friends. I think we'd all admit that the AFRO channel would do that.
Ron and Fez have the talent to play in the big leagues/nationally and I hope they get a fair chance to show their stuff. I think they could appeal to a substantial fraction of audiences as diverse as those of Garrison Keillor's Prarie Home Companion, the political junkies of talk radio and the big fun frat boy crew of O&A. If O&A and XM provide their chance to blow up large I hope they take it. Whatever they decide I'll be trying to listen.

Wow...lot's of heated opinions...lemme weigh in here, if I may...
1) I doubt anyone here disagrees with my opinion that satellite radio will dominate the industry of radio within a decade.
2) Like cable, satellite TV will offer its customers a wide spectrum of entertainment and creative viewpoints. There is no going back now. The need for fresh viewpoints is what triggered these new spins on old communication mediums in the first place. This is a modern communications renaissance of sorts, and the best part is the networks and the government will have LESS control over what you can or cannot listen to/see because you're PAYING for the right to hear it. This is a total disaster for the christian right and other conservative voices looking to silence the animal, the sexual, the revolutionary spirit...and that's just awesome.
3) As more and more people flock to satellite radio, network radio will die, leading to the rebirth of local radio & pirate radio, the kind of exciting, relevant talk/music exemplified in "Pump Up the Volume". While the same will probably never happen on network television, radio has always been the voice of the people, and the time for its return to that heritage is coming soon.
4) 13-15 bucks is a nominal fee for those with jobs. The initial hardware investment is also rapidly dropping. Fifty bucks for a radio is nothing, really, considering the average cost for a Playstation 2 game is about that price. There are always deals available for home and car kits included with that price as well. I know this for a fact, b/c I just ran two promotions with those very options...and they both did very well.
5) I am only now starting to venture out beyond High Voltage. There's so much content on XM it's really daunting. Liberal talk, comedy, CNN, BBC, E!, these are channels I watch on my television. I WANT these in my car, even if its just audio. Music is secondary to me...anyone can burn a cd of thousands of songs and listen to thier own personalized playlist of their favorite bands...its the creative content I'm looking for, the stuff I can't burn...
The bottom line is I can't listen to Ron & Fez, b/c I'm out of range of WJFK's signal. That sucks, and for years I had to live with that, but I don't have to anymore. The technology exists now to eliminate that hindrance COMPLETELY. In fact, it eliminates it for everyone, nationwide...and hopefully soon, any english speaking nation in the world. I don't have to stream them, download last night's show and burn it to cd, no....if they sign with XM, I can listen to them in my car, anywhere in the country. I can save the entire show to my SKYFI's memory, listen to something else, and play it back later...or catch a replay.
I mean, that's just pretty damn cool, all arguements to the contrary aside. That's the future.

It would be like suddenly having to pay a quarter each time I wanted to flush the toilet, just because it was a somewhat nicer toilet, but still ultimately did the exact same function as before.

It's not the same.
You have more choices of what to listen to.
The sound is better.
You don't have to worry about being out of town and not being able to listen to what you want because it's not syndicated to your new area.
It's already very portable, and that will improve greatly. so you'll be able to have the radio with you where you want.
I'd pay a quarter if there was some sort of super toilet that did the job better.

i will agree with tenbats here, even though ny is "the number 1" market, the radio really sucks a big one. All of the major stations someone aged 15-30 would listen to play the same shit. the hip hops stations play the same crap, and the top40 stations basically just play hiphop as well.
we do not have a good FM talk station. The jersey guys on 101.5 are the closest, and it is a shitty signal and not in the NY market. plus there is nothing but commercials and breaks.
XM is a viable option just due to the lack of choice in radio. unless you want to listen to the static on the AM (which in my car barely comes in), you need an XM setup.

Sure, everyone would like to listen to them for free, but wouldn't it be worth it to pay to listen to them with fewer breaks, better sound quality and anywhere in the country: you may be near them, Like I am now in DC, but I do travel for work from time to time and can't listen to them legally while I'm gone for a week.
If they were on all over the country, it would be worth $10-15 a month to hear them and O&A and lots of other stuff too, better music choices, lots of sports, news etc. Music without commercials!
And you don't need to be near a computer. It's possible to subscribe and not own a computer.

I don't want more choices. I only want to listen to R&F and maybe O&A.
Sound, shmound. It's radio. As long as I can hear what's being said, I'm really not that concerned about the sound quality.
I don't care if I can't hear my favorite radio show when I'm out of town. If I'm out of town, odds are I'm doing something where I don't have the time to listen to the radio, be it vacation or business.
I'll agree on the super toilet, but only if I could pay a one time fee. A quarter every flush is a bit ridiculous since I had something that did the same job only somewhat less well before for free.
Let me put it this way...if R&F go to XM, I'll be FORCED to get it. I don't want it, and I don't need it. I will be paying for one thing...R&F. I don't do that now, and I wouldn't have to do that even if I didn't live here in DC. Suddenly paying for their show would suck. Nothing is going to change my mind about that. I would rather have them go to, say, NYC, and I'd have to listen to them over the computer than have to pay for XM to hear them.

I'm one of the ones who came down against the XM hard sell. Sadly, for some XM converts, the more you say you don't want to hear anymore about why you should have XM, the harder they try to convince you.
If R&F do go to XM, I will become a subscriber. As a New Yorker, if I can pay to legally hear them from a dependable source I will. Without R&F, I'm unconvinced. Sure, it would be nice to hear O&A again, but I doubt I'd have time to listen enough to make XM worth my while. As for the music, I'm in the same camp with Mojo and others. I've got more than enough music I like to create the equivalent of a station I like on an iPod or a computer. Besides there doesn't appear to be a station varied enough in it's playlist to be something that really interests me.
It would be nice to hear Orioles radio broadcasts occasionally, though.

I wouldn't have even thought about saying anything to me unless you brought me up by name. Right now I have nothing to add, and you didn't say anything that offended me.
I don't think anyone really understood my point. I didn't say satellite was a horrible idea or that anyone who gets is is stupid, which is in sharp contrast to a few in here that have either hinted or said flat out that people who aren't getting satellite are stupid. I just said it didn't interest me and the costs sucked. If I had the interest, money and satellite could be made as convenient as regular radio, I'd think about it.
As it stands now, I have plenty of my own music that I like on my iPod and the talk show aspect isn't enough to pull me in.

Because my fealty to Ron and Fez is absolute, I'm one of the many Fezheads who will certainly join up when (or if) they go up to that big bird in the sky. However, I will miss those felicitous little moments, like the woman calling in demanding the "Make-Believe Ballroon," or Radio Albert, or the full moon nutcases that inevitably chime in. I believe those priceless bits only happen due to broadcast radio's reach and accessiblity.
I'm reminded of the phenomenon of the Phil Hendrie Show, a satire of talk radio in which unsuspecting callers inevitably fall for his ventriloquist gimmick like clockwork. I know Phil's show is simulcast on XM, but I'm almost positive the slack-jawed rubes that fuel his comedy are coming through due to his terrestrial presence.

You cannot overlook the purchase price of the equipment.
A set-up fee.
and at a quarter a pop (or plop) that could really add up.
If I had the new set-up, I may not mind paying a quarter to dispose of a giant turd, but to take a leak...?

I got XM ONLY for O&A. My tuner NEVER goes off 202. I could have kept getting it for free by registering a new e-mail account every 3 days, but I figured I would like the other channels so I bought one for my car. I DONT LIKE THE OTHER STATIONS! I get better music from AOL Broadband and record tracks off there that I can spin out at clubs. I only listen to the talk on XM which I hope includes AFRO & Ferrall SOMEDAY.

My mentioning of a computer is that some people think that Syndication Underground is the same as listening to Ron and Fez on regular or satellite radio, when it's not.
That makes sense. And I would not want to pay if I'm tied to a PC to listen live.
I do listen using my iPod and it works out great, but I also live in DC and love to be able to listen live if I'm by a radio between 7-11.
If that was on XM I'd see the value in that and wouldn't mind paying. It's worth $10-15/month for Norton and Friends' two shows.
Cool sig.

3) As more and more people flock to satellite radio, network radio will die, leading to the rebirth of local radio & pirate radio, the kind of exciting, relevant talk/music exemplified in "Pump Up the Volume". While the same will probably never happen on network television, radio has always been the voice of the people, and the time for its return to that heritage is coming soon.
why does everyone keep saying that sattellite will destroy terrestrial radio? Network TV is doing just fine last I checked since cable came along.

It's not the specific cost itself...it's that I'm now paying for something that was completely free before.
It would be like suddenly having to pay a quarter each time I wanted to flush the toilet, just because it was a somewhat nicer toilet, but still ultimately did the exact same function as before.

That's a pretty weak arguement. Do you still watch movies on VHS tapes? Do you still listen to your music on audio tape?
Entertainment technology has grown by leaps and bounds..the quality is better, the sound is better, the accessibility is better....
Yes, VHS and DVD both play movies, but that's really where the comparison ends. One is by far the superior delivery method for achieving the same experience you get in an actual theater.

The portability and nationwide span of satellite is also of little value to him because he's currently within the listening area for WJFK. So in essence, because the advanced technology is of little or no value to him, he would be paying only for what he currently gets for free.

Officially, Ron and Fez were already on XM radio! Last friday morning, Ch 202, they were in the middle of a comedy pyramid "New Slogan for New York City" Dan and Dan were just code names...

if they do go to xm, thats an IF, i wonder what time will they come on. Hopefully back to were they used to be in NY the 7-11 shift. i miss good ol' ron and fez in ny.
xm radio is much better than terrestrial radio. i thought it would be stupid paying for radio but now i can't imagine myself sitting through all those stupid commercials on regular radio.
granted on xm they do commercialize a little bit, but its to give the people on the air a break once and a while.

Someone who's listening please post.
Even though you asked this before the *false alarm* was sounded, and even though nothing has been announced, some things from tonight's show...
* Fez's grandmother is very sick and may die this week and he may have to take a couple of days off this to go to the funeral and wake...
* Ron said that Cameron (the PD at WJFK) gave him some good news today...
* Dubs is not in the studio, and it was mentioned that maybe he should visit Fez's grandmother - in Florida...
* Tommy Bateman in the studio and they are reliving the St. Pat's Spat which was last year...
* Ron mentioned Steve "from the O&A Show" by name, in a discussion of boxing...
Like I said - nothing really there, and I wouldn't expect any news (if any) for quite some time.

No word - lots of musical hints on The Hideout's Sunday show yesterday (go to the forums in radiohideout.com).
Jefe said he will be in on Ron and Fez on Thursday of this week. Hopefully they will have some good news, but no word if they will make an official announcement then or not.

Well, to a degree yes, but you're neglecting to mention the features that he cannot get with free radio. For example, Infinity has no streaming, XM does, so he could listen to Ron & Fez on the radio or the computer, live and legally, without the hassle of finding underground streams.
Secondly, with a SKYFI2 or the MYFI, he can record the entire show and play it back later, something that is a real pain in the ass to do with broadcast radio.
Thirdly, I believe good digital clarity is important to any audio medium and it could only improve the show, especially when they play music or bits where low/soft voices can be muffled by FM hiss.
Fourth, XM would open up Ron & Fez to an entire country, which would only make the show bigger...which means better guests, more money for promotions and more listeners interacting with the show and our site.
Fifth, I think the talk content on XM is better at times than terrestrial radio. You have America Right and Left, XM Live, Ask (which is pretty cool, a hobby channel), E!, Extreme XM, Bob Edwards, Air America stars, etc.
Anyway, that's a clarification.

And I thought they weren't allowed to talk about them.
The Junkies mentioned O&A on their first show back on WJFK.
I didn't mean to start anything with my post. But in my defense it was posted as a question, not a statement of fact. So even if you didn't think it was a joke it shouldn't have been taken as an official proclamation of Ron and Fez's career plans.
I'm all set with my XM setup and will not miss a single show. You nay-sayers will be with the rest of us soon enough.

Mentioning them is not the same as talking about them.
If any of you retards had XM you would know that Ron and Fez are coming to XM. O&A have hinted at it the last 3 weeks. Stop being cheap annd buy XM you jewish fucks. They'll be there the begining of april. who ha bitches.
Mmmmm...I wonder what message board you came here from...and let me guess that you didn't take a moment to read this thread...
Let's see...in this thread there was:
1 - poster recently cautioned against talking in absolutes.
1 - poster who have said he would not get XM regardless of anything.
1 - poster who said he would gladly get XM for Ron and Fez but would miss those moments that can only happen when a show isn't "Narrow Casting."
1 - poster who agreed that "it sucked" to have to pay for something that people could get for free.
2 - posters who have said they do not currently have XM, but they would get it only if Ron and Fez go there - and they would not be happy about it, however.
Then there is the half dozen or so first time posters from other message boards, all with the same code that they cracked from listening to radio shows and talking to each other through the internet (I like to think of them as "Wackbag Windtalkers"), the handfull of people who have XM and want to let everyone know that they like it too, and the 2 or 3 regulars who are seemingly outraged because some people don't share their priorities.
These kind of echo on of the points on your earlier list regarding that R&F appeal to a large audience - my only quibble with this is if Ron and Fez end up on "202," how wide an audience do you think they will actually find? Are the Bob Edwards, Liberal talk, Conservative talk fans going to linger around "The Opie and Anthony" channel very long and discover R&F? Some of the friends I have that actually fit those demographics still don't listen to Ron and Fez simply because they are on "The Howard Stern Station" on terestrial radio. My biggest concern with R&F being heard only on "202" (even if it is not a premium station) is that their listeners will really be limited to the people who normally listen to that station. It will be great for the fans of both shows, but not for someone who would be offended by "shock jock" radio - which would suck, since R&F do not do that to begin with - "taint" not-with-standing - yet they would be branded that, simply by association.
One final quibble - it took cabel television 20 years to reach 60% of American homes, and even today (combined with satellite television) it's at 75%; yes a majority, but not the entire country. My own personal opinion is that Satellite radio will take even longer than cable television to kick in with the public. Most of America just isn't as obsessed with radio as they are television, and to be honest in smaller markets radio isn't that bad. The larger the market, the more the corporations have ruined radio.
Awesome!

I think one or two things will happen with regards to R&F if they do come to XM. I think the show will move to New York. I think they were happiest being in New York, plus the chemistry of the two shows in the same office I think would work very well.
Otherwise I have an odd feeling that the folks at XM may say to O&A that if they want to have their ongoing problems with callers being able to hear them, the various audio and level issues that they will have to broadcast out of DC. I think the latter is a far stretch, however the problems they have broadcasting in New York will have to be fixed at some point.

My understanding is that R & F have a strange sort of month to month deal in their Infinity contract that would make it easier for them to bail out and go to satellite radio. In the XM world, Opie has repeatedly said that "I'm getting the band back together." Last week they did a bit where they listened to other morning shows around the country because the idea is that there will be, "One or two other shows of people we like, sharing our channel." IMO one of those shows is probably R & F.

I sincerely hope the R & F would come back to NYC.
I don't think that the XM Compound in the worst part of DC would go well with their open door policy. Also the chemistry between shows is unbelievable! The AFRO shows are wet your pants funny!

This was mentioned already in the thread. But one of the shows they listened to, toward the end of the bit, was the "Dan and Dan" show (they didn't mention a city) and it was just an old clip of Ron and Fez (Comedy Pyramid: New York City Slogans)
I didn't recognise the voice of the person who called up Opie and Anthony to play "Dan and Dan" I think it was just a listener playing along, or perhaps someone on the O&A staff. He "rudely" hung up in the middle of the bit.
Ron and Fez didn't say their names during the clip but they did give out the phone number: 866-277-4969 (4WOW).
Anthony and Opie later said "Dan and Dan" were the only one's they liked hearing.

I meant older than the other radio shows (which were airing live that morning)
I consider all episodes of R&F old unless there isn't a newer one to take it's place. so as I write this the March 14th 2005 show isn't old, while Friday March 11th is old. At about 8:00pm tonight that Monday night show will become old.
And yeah, if they go with XM they may want to stay around DC. They may want to move to NYC. They may not even know for themselves. How would YOU know?
If they do move to NYC would O&A mind sharing a studio with them? From what I've heard on the show, there isn't much studio space in NYC for anyone outside the O&A show (I think a classical music channel has a very small studio)
I have no idea where the DC XM compound is, but O&A said it was nice, <i>inside</i>. R&F wouldn't have to commute with the rest of the DC suckers during morning rush hour.

My understanding is that R & F have a strange sort of month to month deal in their Infinity contract that would make it easier for them to bail out and go to satellite radio.
I heard it's even less formal than that. They don't have contracts at all. Every afternoon, Jag and Cameron Gray take the WJFK van to the Wegman's parking lot in Fairfax. Cameron gets out of the van and asks "Who wants to do a radio show?". Most days, unless they've already been picked up for landscaping or light carperntry, Ron & Fez are there and they pile into the back of the van and head to the station to do a show.

Well you're assuming they're going to market it that way...they already have Extreme FM, which is extreme talk, so two have to "extreme talk" stations doesn't make sense from a marketing perspective.

Although that's a popular sentiment, let's also realize that Ron does in fact have a family and at least one child and it may not be fair to his family to uproot them again for the second time in 2 years.
Everyone... Ron and Fez are not your personal radio robots. They have lives, families, friends, considerations.
I will be happy if I hear them in my car, live, period. The only "new york" flavor that really got the fans involved is when they did the big party shows at the hard rock, and that can be solved with the occassional Big Ass Road Show. (Ron and Fez in B.A.R.S. - I like it!)
I'm not being the thought police again, but please, especially in a thread like this, please don't talk in an absolute sense unless you know it to be a fact.

I'm Carlos from Jersey that called the show last Friday with the Dan & Dan bit. I found the bit on this site in the file Library. Some people speculated that it was set up by O&A and thats why it was cut off before R&F mentioned their names. That's totally not the case. O&A had nothing to do with it. I pulled up the 1st file I found, turned down my xm player and turned up ron and fez then called into the show. I was thrown on the air right away and really couldnt hear the boys so I just let it play. Coincidently I hung up after a couple of minutes because I was at work and the speakers were loud and since I couldnt hear opie and anthony cause the phone was on the speaker I didnt know if they were still going with the bit and thats why the bit didnt run long enough to hear R&F mention there names. Also I didnt really think things through when it came to the name of the show cause it all happened so fast. When the screener asked me for the show's name one of my employee's who happens to be named dan was walking by so I just called the show Dan & Dan. So there, that bit was nothing more then a listener bit. you could speculate that O&A said they like that Dan & Dan show because maybe they are planning on bringing Ron And Fez to XM or maybe they just said they liked them and would bring them on XM because they are friends and didnt want to trash them like they were trashing all the other shows.

Well, they knew it was Ron and Fez and we have been speculating that R&F are joing XM for this whole thread.

Nah, I know of the old Ron and Ron show but I'm not that crafty, after the fact I realized the the Dan and Dan name I give them could be used as a reference to "Ron and Ron". But it wasnt my intent, just not that smart.
Well, they knew it was Ron and Fez and we have been speculating that R&F are joing XM for this whole thread.
Yea of course they knew it was R&F, point I'm trying to make is that just like people speculate that because O&A said the "Dan & Dan" show seems like a show they would put on their channel is a sign of R&F going to XM it could also mean nothing and that they only said that because they werent going to trash their friends just like they were trashing all those other shows that were played that morning.
I know there are a bunch of clues hinting at R&F going to XM and I hope that is the case as I havent heard R&F since they were booted out of WNEW but on the flipside it could all just be a gag.

Who cares??
Ron's family didn't stop them from signing with infinity and moving to NYC. It also didn't stop them from then moving to DC. Hell, how many shifts have they done....3 am to god knows when, doing 2, 4 hour shows a day....who the hell knows what kind of relationship ron has with his kids....."what time does he get home at night, what time does he come in at the office during the day, how much time can he REALLY spend with his kids, etc."
That shit is Ron's business and it seems silly to try to take that into consideration when we're talking about where we want them to go.
"oh no, they can't go to a different city, how will it effect the kids??"

What the hell are you talking about? You're saying that no one can factor in Ron's family when speculating on R&F's decision? Bullshit. Since when do you get to make the rules. True, no one knows what's going on in their heads, so no one can truly say what they are factoring into their decisions. However, to state basically that and then to offer up:
If offered the chance I don't doubt they'd take it....number 1 market and all that.
...seems pretty hypocritical.
[edit] and if they go to satellite, where they broadcast from doesn't really factor into the market 1 vs. market 8 debate because they would be broadcasting nationwide.

WE WE WE WE WE... it doesn't really matter where WE want them to go, because it's selfish on our part. Think about all the stress that R&F have been though in the past four years. Start with 9/11 and work your way through what they've had to go through.
XM has facilities in NYC, DC, Nashville, and other areas.
Market size makes no difference to a national satellite audience.
My thoughts are this:
Unless there are major personal reasons that we don't know about, or a personal preference for Ron and Fez, there really isn't a reason that I can see why Ron and Fez shouldn't continue to broadcast their show from DC if they go to XM exclusively.
My point was that it sounded like a selfish reason that Ron and Fez "belong" in NYC, when they really didn't have the numbers when compared to their show in DC.

It seems silly to take that into consideration is what I said. Ron and Fez have proven that they ARE willing to uproot and move when they need to so there is no reason for people to take NYC off the table because it might effect Ron's family negatively.
Understand now.

Of course what we want is important because we are their audience. If there was no "we" then there would be no "them". Some of you guys seem to elevate Ron and Fez way above where they should be. They are our clowns. They are our entertainers.
My thoughts are this:

My point was that it sounded like a selfish reason that Ron and Fez "belong" in NYC, when they really didn't have the numbers when compared to their show in DC.
People say Ron and Fez belong in NYC because they seemed happiest there. You can hear it in their voices. They didn't come to DC or rather Fairfax, Virginia because they thought "hey this is a great opportunity". They came because they had no other choice.
I'm sure they've made the best out of the situation and made some friends but if it doesn't matter as far as ratings go whether they stay in dc or go to NYC, then I think they'd go back to NYC.

Ron and Fez could broadcast from DC, NYC, Florida, even Mos Eisley... I'd be happy if I could hear them live in my car while I'm driving.
But the biggest point I am trying to make - it is not OUR decision where R&F broadcast from. It is up to them and XM.

Ron and Fez could broadcast from DC, NYC, Florida, even Mos Eisley...
Would Fez hold his "Friday Night Lights" in that Cantina? You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

Just my opinion.....
I have no preference where they broadcast from. Just to hear them live again after 2 plus years is good enough for me. If they stay in DC then we'd get AFRO shows once or twice a month maybe, when the boys go down to DC. AFRO once or twice a month is plenty....no need to drill that bit into the ground right off the bat. I want them on XM because I liked listening to their show independent of O & A's show or the collaborative efforts.
When I do get to listen to Ron and Fezzie it's always at least a day behind and that irks me the most.

I think the show will move to New York.
I didn't see it mentioned but during Vito's phone call he said that he'd like to come down to DC to see the boys. Ron let out several "er"s and "um"s
So I'm going to run with it and call that OFFICIAL notice that R&F are moving to NYC when they go to XM (On April 2nd since that's exactly 1 month since Ron began the "Your Mom's Box" thing)
Okay, it's not official, official. They may choose Nashville.

On April 2nd since that's exactly 1 month since Ron began the "Your Mom's Box" thing
if Jefe & Dubs are giving two weeks notice tonight, that would put that around April 1st - which could easily mean that "YMB" was all about The Hideout from the start and people heard only what they wanted to hear (a lot of that going around).
The night Ron let that fly was also the night after they laid down the first hints that Jefe and Dubs might be flying the coop South...
Just saying.

There are just way too many hints Ron dropped directed at themselves, plus O&A couldn't put the band back together with The Hideout, that would be a new band altogether.
O&A and R&F have done everything short of announce R&F joining XM channel 202 in April.
O&A go on Vacation next week right? 10 day vacation ending when they begin the new phase of XM 202. Do R&F go on vacation soon?

O&A and R&F have done everything short of announce R&F joining XM channel 202 in April.
That's the important part - "SHORT." Don't believe nothing until it actually happens.
Aside from someone coming on here and claiming that R&F have some sort of bizarre Month to Month contract with Infinity, most of the reliable scuttle has R&F's contract expiring in the summer - either Summer of 2005, or (as Tenbats has said) three years later. Ron and Fez are class acts and will not break a contract, and Infinity isn't going to just let them go because their fans want them to.
So much of the assumption has been that Ron and Fez hate it at WJFK so much that they want to leave. IF THIS WAS THE CASE, THEY WOULD NOT BE LAYING DOWN ANY HINTS! They would just let their contract expire, and move on to XM, if that is what they really wanted to do.
They are more than likely in negotiations to STAY. They are also more than likely in negotiations with other markets, including satellite, in the event they don't feel the love from WJFK like they think they should.
You said so yourself - what is 106.7 going to do if Ron and Fez leave? Rely on Don and Mike, Bill O'Reilly and The Sports Junkies after Stern leaves, with piped in Lykeis? Yikes! And what happens when the Junkies contract expires this October (something they have talked about more than once)?
Ron and Fez are in the driver's seat - it helps that there is much interest in them, and everyone knows this and is playing their parts - from O&A, to the fans, even to D&M.
My opinion - IF Ron and Fez DO stay, look for some major changes, including timeslots, and maybe letting O&A actually on the show, or vice versa, and maybe even syndication through either service. There is no reason that either should be an issue any more.
O&A go on Vacation next week right? 10 day vacation ending when they begin the new phase of XM 202. Do R&F go on vacation soon?
R&F have their Easter break coming up, and it sounds like they will be taking Good Friday off for that. Just the one day.

At the live show at the Hard Rock yesterday Opie did say "We WILL put the band back together." Whatever that means I do believe that O&A rarely hint the way they do and not mean it. I think they know exactly what people are waiting to hear and wouldn't kid around like that. That's only my opinion, I could be wrong, but I think they are hinting at Ron and Fez moving to High Voltage and that it will happen. Perhaps it's too much wishful thinking on my part, but my hunch at this point is that it is going to happen.

So cutting their show down an hour for REALLY lame hour long sports shows is how Infinity negotiates?

Unless someone at Infinity is still holding a grudge. There was really no reason to cut R&F's show off the air when Opie and/or Anthony showed up during a live R&F event (I think it was Dave and Busters Does anyone remember the date? Is it available in the file library?)

Then again, to what SKW has said, Op has made several positive comments about Joel Hollander at Infinity, so perhaps R&F stay right where they are at WJFK and their show gets syndicated through XM as well. If that's the case and they allow both R&F and O&A to appear on the same shows on Infinity radio stations, I think that would be a major victory for them.

I'm only dippin my toes in here because there really seems to be only one thread of speculation going, and it's become such an echo chamber that everyone seems ready to believe that there is only one out come and only one reason for all of this.
While this might be the case, which would be great for everyone who misses Ron and Fez, I'm a little concerend that if it doesn't go that way that people might feel cheated, when in reality no one from any show really has said anything, except feed the speculation.
Then again, to what SKW has said, Op has made several positive comments about Joel Hollander at Infinity, so perhaps R&F stay right where they are at WJFK and their show gets syndicated through XM as well.
Someone somewhere made the point that if you were to use "The Blues Brothers" as the blueprint for all of this "Band Back together" speculation, you have to rememeber that in the movie the band was only brought back together for a one time reunion.
While I don't think THAT is the reason behind O&A saying it to begin with, I do think that it might have many reasons aside from R&F going back and working out of the Opie and Anthony World Headquarters.
So cutting their show down an hour for REALLY lame hour long sports shows is how Infinity negotiates?
Maybe.
Unless someone at Infinity is still holding a grudge. There was really no reason to cut R&F's show off the air when Opie and/or Anthony showed up during a live R&F event (I think it was Dave and Busters Does anyone remember the date? Is it available in the file library?)
First - that's not exactly what happened. Opie was pointed out as they were going to a commercial break, the chants began as they were going to a natural stop set. If they paniced and cut it off early, you couldn't tell because they were going to commercials.
I do think there were also technical problems (as there have been at pretty much all of their live gigs, both big and small) - and I also remember some post appearance scuttle that some folks at WJFK were not thrilled.
It was at the Hard Rock about a year and a half ago, in the middle of Infinity sitting on O&A's contract when things were at the most bitter, AND as Tenbats has said, pretty much everyone in management around during that time, is gone.
How odd would it be, though, if this time next year from anywhere in the country people could hear Stern, Opie and Anthony, Ron and Fez, The Hideout, Farell and The Sports Junkies at any given time, between the two sat services?

...and then Elwood, the now lone "Blues Brother" was finally released from prison. He hit the road to re-unite the band and win the big prize at the New Orleans Battle of the Bands. Elwood was pursued cross-country by the cops, the Russian Mafia, and a militia group. On his new "mission from God" Elwood enlisted the help of a young orphan, and a stip-club bartender played by John Goodman.

As much as I hate to say I after worshipping Ozzy for years and years but FUCK OZZY!
His image has been so tarnished over the last few years and sorry to say not by his own doing. He has become irrelevant and pretty much a joke thanks to the Grand Bitch herself, Sharon Osbourne. Without her pushing him and doing that awful show of theirs, he may still have some legendary status.
That and if he would have just said goodbye when he was supposed to, he may have redeemed himself.
Now Ronnie James Dio is now the new legend.

Finally, the band is back together!!
You can't say that until R&F show up on O&A's show* (or on XM on their own show, but I'm sure they would want to do an appearance beforehand) or O&A show up on R&F's show (on XM, WJFK, or any other station they end up at)
They've been to DC lots of times, and did a couple days of the show from DC not too long ago (With appearances by other XM DJs like the Crazy Mexican (not El Jefe!) and Dottie (who ended up not being as sexy as she sounded, then not allowed on the O&A show anymore)
*And that "Dan and Dan" stuff doesn't count. They need to be live on the show under their own names.

Anyone want to speculate why O&A are in DC for a couple of days?
XM meetings. They usually go down there. Nothing unusual

Based on something the Sports Junkies said a couple of years ago, I think all three of these shows have the same agent - so there would be no need to have secret meetings.

Reef, to be fair the picture of O&A, Jimmy and Ozzy didn't show up in my browser when I saw your post. Since I listen to both shows religiously and didn't see the obvious joke (which depended on the picture) I thought you were 'sirius'

Either Norton isn't nearly as "lil" as I imagined, or Anthony isn't that tall.

So as I was about to step out to do the laundry, best of comes on, and I got to thinking: IF our buddays go to XM,
A) Do you think a new opening for the show would be in order and :
B) If so, what do you think they would/should use ?
I would personally LOVE to hear them go back to the ol' ICP theme for a while, or at least for the first show. That would make me feel all warm and gushy inside. :p

They were talking about something completely different and random when Ron made that comment and then, as an after thought KNOWING how it must have sounded to some, Ron tossed in the Blues Brothers clip. It was a complete after thought, and very minor (underscored by the fact that Mikey doesn't even remember it).

<P>Its really funny how obvious it was on tonites show...when al dukes called in and asked if he was goin to sirius and ron goes..."no not that one" there were so many it was almost "too" obvious that is why I am thinking this is all just to make those who want them back with OandA fill up message boards with all of the rumors...its apparent they are getting offers which they cant talk about right now, but hopefully soon they will just tell us already..im sure they want to tell us, but cant because of logistics with their contracts and what not...and when i say "what not" it means i have no idea what im talking about</P>

After tonights episode it's becoming more apparent that Ron and more vocally Fez, want to be back in florida. Fez's family is from florida. He's clearly upset about being away from them.

I think you misread what was being said. I don't think they want to go back to Florida. Fez just felt awful for leaving the family behind like 2 days after his grandma died and all. It just really got to him and he feels guilty bout it.
And yea, the end of the show was beyond uncomfortable to listen to. I felt bad for Fez.

<P>They've basically made the announcement, if you piece together everything said on R&F and O&A's shows you can figure out they are going to XM to join Opie and Anthony on XM channel 202 (Hopefully with a different name, "High Voltage" sucks!) and fairly soon.</P>
<P>They just can't make an offical announcement yet, just as J Dubbs and El Jefe couldn't say what station they are going to, but again they provided enough hints that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out.</P>

If they do move to XM, do you think they should keep the time slot they occupy right now, or do you think they should move to afternoon drive?

<P>I said it earlier in the thread - if they are simply simulcast to XM and stay on WJFK, then 7-11.
<P>*speculation mode*
<P>If Ron and Fez go to XM exclusively and are on 202, part of me still thinks they'll be on 7-11. Mainly because 202 *IS* O&A's channel, and a lot of people listen to O&A on the drive home in the 3-7 slot. THat's what I do - I listen to 8-9am live on the way in to work, and then I listen to 9-10a replayed when I go home at 5.
<P>Remember, XM is national. So R&F would be in drivetime for other parts of the country. Just not the east coast.

<P>So pretty soon, Stern will be gone and the morning drive slot will be up for grabs. Lets just say Stern was leaving tomorrow...who would get the slot? Don and Mike, Ron and Fez, the Junks...or somebody else? Don and Mike are slipping in the ratings, but I don't know if that would be enough to open the door for R&F to grab the morning drive time. I don't think Don and Mike are funny at all, but I think the have more power in the area and at the station; even though R&F are much more talented and have a brighter future.</P>
<P>In terms of salary, wouldn't a morning drive slot in a top radio market pay more than move to XM? So....What if WJFK went to Ron and Fez and promised them the morning drive slot if they stuck around until Howard left. Would they take it even though WJFK has shat on them repeatedly over the last yr? </P>
<P>I know some all of this has been talked about before but I think the past 2 or 3 days Ron and Fez have hinted at all of these possibilities so much I can't help but think of the BIG PICTURE...not just the "move to XM". Aren't there other factors at play here besides O&A, NYC, and XM?</P>

Amazing. perhaps the two of you stooges should learn HOW to read things. Here, I'll break it down for you sweatheart: "Empathy: 1. Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives. See Synonyms at pity.
2. The attribution of one's own feelings to an object."
That's from a dictionary in case you thought it was a word I made up. So, in context of what I said, what I meant was that I feel the same way, but we should still mind that there's been no real announcement.
Now go and get your fuckin shine box dipshit. (And be sure to have your lil' clansman help you with it, because between the two of you, you have a better chance of finding your way back.

If Stern moved today, The Junkies would most likely take over. Does anyone like the Junkies? All they do is talk about how much, or how little money they make, and about all the new stuff they buy. I think they stink. But I think Ron doesn't like the DC Metropolitan area, or that could just stem from the BS JFK puts them through.

The only thing I "engaged" in Mikeyboy, was self defense. I got attacked needlessly by two of yer boys, for something I said which was actually supposed to be funny, but was misread, and I'm in the wrong ? Look man, I assess forum posts every day at the site I'm an admin of, which is host to :
"Members: 12,590
Threads: 16,299
Posts: 172,647"
So, I'm no stranger to having to deal with "situations". All I'm saying is, just because the nature of this forum can sometimes be a bit harsh, that's no reason to dismiss logical thinking when making an assessment of a situation. Anyway, I was only giving the same ribbing I was getting. I'm wasn't all that offended actually.
If you care to know what the site is, I'll pm it to you.

<p>I was in and out of the car yesterday afternoon, and it seemed that
whenever I turned over to Don and Mike they were talking about Ron.<br />
<br />
Two of the bits were all about Buzz Burbank wearing Ron's headphones;
first, when Don looked over and saw the giant 'R-O-N' on the side of
the headphones and talking about how he heard Ron yelling at his
interns earlier in the week when he couldn't find the headphones, and
later, towards the end of the show, when Buzz talked about talking to
Ron about it - it was actually funny to hear them talk about the
conversation, and then hear Ron's take on it later when they started
their show.
</p><p>The one that made me laugh, though, was earlier in the show (about 4pm)
when Don was talking to his producer, Beth Ann, about the station
manager, Michael Hughes, getting into a car accident recently - about
someone hitting him from behind.
</p><p>Don asked her if she thought it was someone from the station who hit
him, and she just laughed (she was one of the three people suspended by
Hughes for two weeks because of the word "fuck" going out over during
best of, and wouldn't say anything bad because he could have fired
her).
</p><p>"Do you think it was Ron Bennington?" Don then asked. </p><p>I actually
snorted a laugh at the mental image of Ron behind the wheels of his car
smacking into the back of the boss's car. They then went on to do
impersonations of Ron going after Michael Hughes. My guess is that
whatever problems R&F are having at WJFK, he's the one to blame.
While The Hideout didn't burn any bridges, it was implied more than
once that Hughes was the one behind the shit that happened to them.
</p><p>In other speculation news - I can't believe no one has mentioned yet
that Ron talked about seeing Farrell yesterday? About him looking "tan
and rested." While they didn't go that into it, they did play the
"Blues Brothers" drop, along with his drop, before moving on - on the
same day that DCRTV had more rumor rumblings.
</p><p>Based on nothing more than what I listen and what I read, it makes more
sense that R&F went to the XM studios to meet up with an old
friend, or friends (were O&A coming to DC this week?), and maybe
allow themselves to be woo-ed again by XM (we can assume from the
original DCRTV rumor that they have had the studio tour, but maybe Ron
wanted to chat up Bob Edwards about his hot daughter). </p><p>For whatever
it's worth, that is a crappy drive down there. I was down at Gallaudet
University, in that neighborhood, Wednesday, and couldn't imagine
having to come all the way in from Fairfax every day. People do it all
the time, but I don't know if there is a time of day when driving on NY
avenue isn't ass.</p>

How can that be another hint? </p><p>Ba-bo just finished talking about our lovely weekend trip and promoted the next one on is in October and Ron, who was playing up that he was tired of Ba-bo going on and on, basically told him that the next time he could come in and say anything would be one month before that next one - the last date Ron hears from Bobo is October 2nd, so he mentions September 4th.</p><p>If anything it could be used to support the idea that Ron and Fez would like to be where they are - of course, as I have said elsewhere in this thread, people (including myself) are ONLY hearing what THEY want to hear on the show.</p>
