R.I.P. laptop hard drive. We hardly knew ye....

Oh man. All of a sudden the other day, my laptop took like a half hour to do a disc clean up which concerned me. Then it kinda locked up, so I reset it and.............oh shit.

NOTHING! I could get into the diagnostic set up and boot menu stuff, but the hard drive just didn't spin at all. So what did I do? I did what anyone who isn't that well versed in computers would do. I took it to my friend Grim Sanity who is very well versed in computers. The second he took the hard drive out, he said he smelled it was burnt.

So there my little Dell sits. Unused. No hard drive. Nothing.

A moment of silence for my laptop, please.

It just didn't do anything. It wouldn't even spin. I would get that start screen every computer gives, and then it went black. Nothing. Nothing Windows based came up because all that shit's on the hard drive. Not sure how old it was. It's fucking done now. We took it out and haven't been keeping it in one of those static free bags because it smells burned out. So even if there was a way to bring it back, it's probably damaged by now anyway.

But rest assured, it's dead. Hopefully it accessed it's data in a holy way, and ascended to a better place.

I have Dell and Compaq/HP certs for my job, and we get a lot of HD issues with Dells. I think they either design their machines with inadequate ventilation, or use drives/configurations that are bound to fail. The ratio of Dell HD failures to other systems we have is more than 2:1.

Thanks there Bulldog, but I have good news.

THE LAPTOP LIVES ONCE MORE!!!!

My good friend Grim Sanity got me a great price on a replacement hard drive for the Dell Latiture Cpx I own, and I'm back in business. Plus, it's a 20 Gig instead of the 6 or so I had with the dead one.

Grim spent hours putting XP on the drive, setting me up with an antivirus again, and he even downloaded all the latest Window's Updates for me while I had the laptop over his house, because he has a cable modem. THEN.......I spent hours tonight at home re-installing all the programs I use on that laptop. It's just about done.

PRAISE BE TO JESUS!!! He and my Laptop both rose this week!
