I have this weird phobia of not being able to order takeout/delivery food over the phone. I do have a slight regular phone phobia--I'll always email someone first rather than calling them. But when it comes to ordering take-out, I dread it! I'd rather PAY someone else to call AND spring for all the food!
I have forced myself to call out of desperate starvation but not without sweating and rehearing what to say first and being extremely embarassed! Why? WTF!

I'm not sure of the cause of this phobia, but I don't think you are the only person with it. I've taken orders at my pizza shop sometimes, when it is pretty obvious, the person ordering, is nervous. They tend to appologize for no reason, and sometimes hang up before they're done ordering. Sounds like a good call for the next "what's your phobia" topic on the R & F show. That is, if you aren't afraid to call them.

But I am! Calling into a radio show is even worse. I called once into R&F and it was a disaster. My heart rate must have gone out the roof and I was a mumbling retard.

PERFECT!!! If calling the show makes you nervous, then call in and say you're phobia is calling into radio shows. It will give you an excuse for the mumbling, and R & F may actually talk you through it. The whole thing may result in a cure. I say go for it!

I'm the anti-Whistle pig. I call most of the radio shows I listen to.
You're probably just worried because you dont know what you want. Just write it down on a piece of paper before you call. So if you chicken out like the little sissy boy you are, you'll have the cheat sheet.

When we order something for delivery, I have one friend that makes these stupid remarks in the background when one of us places an order. If it's Chinese food we're ordering from, he blurts out some made up chinese words in the background or if it's pizza he says something stupid like we're crank calling the pizza place or wherever we're ordering from. Everyone looks at him with a mad look like----"WTF are you doing. You better hope they don't do nothing to our food you freaking idiot".

I think my phobia more relates to this deep-seated embarassment I have of eating food. I must have been humiliated at one point when I was a kid because I still want to eat food only when I'm alone. It's embarassing for the delivery people to know exactly what I'm going to eat. It's weird.

And no, I don't order huge amounts and I'm not fat so it doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Actually, I DO worry about that! I love the new clerkless checkout systems. I can get what I want and bag it as quick as possible before anyone sees.

I remember in high school I could never sit and eat lunch with my friends. I'd go off and eat by myself then join up with them when I was done!

OK... here's one. I'm affraid to drive on Interstate 81. I can drive on any other highway, but not that one. If I try, I panic, and can barely drive above 50mph. I stay off it, as I don't want to get shot by someone who gets pissed at me for going so slow.

man i always have problems calling people just in general. Ordering take-out is always kinda a problem i guess because i have a fear of screwing up the order or the address (if its someone elses house) and then having the order be screwed up and me getting blamed. My problem is definitely one of shyness and wanting people to not hate me though (it occurs in my life a lot), so i already have this phobia solved. I also have this thing where i won't walk on this one block in my neighborhood and do everything possible to avoid it (like i'll walk on deserted side streets where i could easily get mugged rather than walk on this crowded major avenue). I haven't solved this problem but its probably just a bad repressed memory that i have or maybe its because i like shorter blocks rather than the long blocks that this avenue has.

I also am so afraid of black people (maybe that explains my feeling on bi-racial porn........)

i have a problem with ordering out fer food too. it never stopped me from gettin a pizza but i think the reason is that alot of times i have a hard time hearing the person on the other end. cuz alot of times they ask fer my phone number but i think they said whats the address. maybe u have the same problemand if thats the case just turn the music or tv down so u can hear good.

Wow. I forgot about that old sig pic!

Anyway... Something really freaky happened tonight. I'm still afraid to drive on 81, and I haven't done it in about 5 years, even though I can see it from my house. Tonight, I was on a delivery that required that I drive on a different highway that basically looks like I-81, but on a smaller scale. It's no problem. As I said in the original post, I can drive on ANY highway except for 81.

My mind was sort of wandering as I was listening to XM 202, day dreaming (at night), and keeping an eye out for deer. I sort of thought that something didn't look right, and I didn't remember there being construction on the other road, but I sort of shrugged it off and kept looking out for deer. I got to the next exit, and just as I was pulling off the highway, I KNEW I was totally in the wrong place.

Scatterbrained me had been driving on I-81 for the first time in over 5 years! By the time I realized it, I was already off the highway. The weird thing was, because I didn't KNOW I had been driving on a road that gives me panic attacks, I was totally comfortable with it. I should find a way to drive on it and convince myself I'm somewhere else.

And I should probably pay more attention to where I'm going, too.

Strange.......as a truck driver I have many roads I don't like, but all that happens is I'll grip the wheel a little tighter,I can't imagine avoiding a road all the time.

I have a fear of potlucks. It's not the fear of getting a yucky casserole, it's just eating cafeteria-style in a room full of people. Even if I know all the people at the table with me, I still hate it. I even skipped church last week because there was going to be a potluck afterwards and I'm tired of thinking of excuses. It's just uncomfortable...

That's the power of phobias. BTW... Before the phobia started, I dreamed I died in a car crash on that highway. I've also known several people who did.

It's not as wide as more modern Interstates, it has a lot of poorly designed on and off ramps, and it has a huge amount of truck traffic. They're currently widening some of it, but the construction process is taking forever, and just making it more dangerous. I personally knew several people who have been killed on 81. It gets backed up for many many miles for serious accidents several times a month just in the section near my house.

Where did you live? It traverses the entire state.

I get afraid that someone is going to sneak u behind me when I'm washing my face and my eyes are closed.

Not when I'm putting on a shirt or when my eyes are closed in general. Only when I'm washing my face either in the shower or over a sink.

When I'm taking a shower and washing my face I thik someone is going to appear by the window... like the twilight zone episode with the thing out of the airplane window. Maybe that wasn't the twilight zone...

Wait, what? :surrender:
At the time, the merging lane for cars that were entering onto 81 North was virtually nonexistent, and there was a short window of visibility. She came to a stop, because there was a long line of trucks in the right lane. The idiot behind her swerved around her into the lane with all the trucks. He was hit, and his car was knocked into hers, killing her. A couple of years later, they redesigned it, so the merging lane was much longer. A lot of good that did her.

I have a legitimate phobia, Aracnaphobia.

Reason:

Few years ago, I was watching TV and I felt something land on the left side of my forehead. My natural reaction was to grab whatever it was, and toss it. It ended up being a dime sized spider. I didn't think anything of it, and went back to watching TV for a few seconds. I look back at the spider, and it appeared to grow in size. I then noticed that this "puddle" around it was its babies that it was carrying....

That is when I felt tons of little tickles on my forehead, my hairline.....then my eyelid, ear, in my eye, in my ear.......................I had tons of baby spiders crawling on my face, in my ear, my eye. I screamed like I was a ten year old girl, completely freaking out. I ran into the shower, and was washing spiders off of me, out of my eye, blowing them out my nose.........

I have a terrible fear of heights.

I was always nervous in high places, especially outdoors exposed areas, wtc platform, Seattle space needle deck, hot air balloon ride.

Phobia finally hit home while I was watching a Japanese acrobatic troupe perform a slow "dance" performance while being lowered by ropes from a 5 story building. One of the ropes broke and I watched this guy fall 5 stories and land flat on his back about 30 feet in front of me. The sound was sickening.

So now when I am sleeping near the side of the bed I wake up in a cold start because I think I am falling off the side of a building. I can't go to any elevated area or high bridges, I fold up like a baby. I used to fly frequently and now I even get nervous on a plane, though I am enclosed.

And to think I once went over the old Sunshine Skyway bridge on a bike at a high rate of speed, ( of course I was 20)
