I'm not particularly happy with this product, so I invite you all to go to

and post the link to the demo here
some caveats:

I agree with others here who had no problems with the original setup. However I can understand the desire to move forward. With that said though, I think it would be beneficial to everyone especially newer users if you made something that would explain what each of the tools does. I get it for the most part, though it's kind of confusing as well.

Quotes in Firefox are still fucking up the page. I can't get hyperlinks to work. I have no idea
 what half of these tools do. Everything is way too complicated.The

well the auto foward just started with this, the page bottom thing hasnt worked on firefox for a couple months or so the main thing is quoting or at least being able to paste in the box

yea but on mozilla, you cant link either, and there is no spell check

i said, its the same old link button, but its one of those buttons
thats shaded out. i can put the mouse on it, it tells me what it does,

that works, but i cant quote, and i cant paste in the box, so i still
cant reply to anybody directly cause no one will have any idea who im
talkin to its not possible to just have the buttons
the old way? change is bad, and this doesnt make it any easier to do

im not tryin to be a dick man, i realize what he is tryin to do. but if
its such a pain in the ass to get it to work with firefox, all im sayin
is just dont bother. leave it the way everyone knew and if we need
something with the new tools, im sure we all have IE that we can use.

my box. new features or not, thats not easier, that was the point of
that. if we cant quote yet, at least make it so we can paste and quote
it ourselves, rather then take 10 minutes to keep lookin back to make
sure you are correctly typing what someone said

of all, yes it is. When you click the paste button, it will ask you if
you want more information. When you click "OK", it will bring you to a
page where it will explain to you how to enable clipboard 
functionality.   
You can also go to your firefox browser, click edit, then paste, and it
will paste any text on yoru clipboard right into the post control
(provided you have your mouse carat in the control)You can also do a classic paste by holding down the CTRL and V key, which will also paste the info into the control.

harder then when it used to be just right click the mouse in there. is
there anyway to not change the functions apparently loved so dearly,
and make it so i dont even have to use a paste button, and can just do

Personally I don't have a problem with the new tools, and I had no problems with the old tools. I do have a problem in that the new tools are slow as shit though. I don't know if it's those wonderfully reliable Foundry Music servers or if it's something else, but these new tools really slow the site down a lot. Other messageboards that I frequent with similar tools aren't slow at all. While you're at it Jeff, why not fix the mailbox and multiple email issue deleting problem as well?

For example, a lot of the table editing tools won't appear unless you add a table. The link tool won't work until you highlight some text you wish to convert into a link. The redo feature wont work until you undo something.And the slow load time has nothign to do with the speed of the internet connection. The slow load time has to do with an issue with the control where it has to load every element in message before it can display it. Some of you use randomizers to display your sigs, and they server thier images very slowly, thus the slow load time. I am working on something to remedy that so you won't have to deal with that anymore and the controls willl load instantly. The web control itself is downloaded once and cached on your local disk, and its really small, so your bandwidth really has nothing to do with it.

up, and then it says One Moment Please like it always does, except it
stays like that indefinitely. I can scroll down and see the "Close this
Window" button, but it never goes into the preview post. The status bar

I find it annoying myself, especially from my perspective because when you go to respond, the window opens and looks like usual for a few seconds and I start typing and suddenly, the whole page shifts as the tools are loaded and Im suddenly on the bottom of the page wondering where my text went.  I have this annoying hang when Im typing and realise I made a mistake and I hit the backspace and nothing happens so I hit it again and again and suddenly, I deleted a bunch of shit.  I imagine if I just started posting today and didnt know any better, that Id think this was cool.  I think we just need to give it some time to get familar with it.  But guys like Moe will have the worst of it because their connections speeds have a lot of problems associated with loading this kind of crap.

I didnt mean to make it sound like I am complaining, I think its great that this is free and we have this cool platform to talk about the stuff we like and have fun at the same time. But that being said, I can also see it as somewhat justifyable to complain when you have difficulty doing the thing that you enjoy doing and seeing what you thought as useable, unbroken and effective changed to a level that you now have difficulty expressing yourself.I have no major problems with it though, and I think we all appreciate Jeff for letting us have the board.

I love how people try to stifle people from discussing things on discussion boards. Just because I personally may have comments regarding things on the board it doesn't mean I can't comment on them or ask questions. My own feeling is that the board runs slower with the new tools. It's just a comment. It doesn't mean I won't stop posting, I doubt any of us will stop for that. It's just a comment. If people were happy with the board the way it was and now it runs slower as a result of a change, it should be expected that people will have comments. Also, if the board as a result of these changes becomes un-user friendly for people with other browsers then it should be expected that people will have comments.

Alright, I have high speed internet, and a VERY fast computer, and every time I click "reply" I have to wait for the buttons to load...it's gotta be a nightmare with anything less, so I sympathize with what Moe is saying.  Plus, if you start typing before everything loads, the page jumps around when the buttons finally DO show up, and most of what you're typing is lost.  So why does it take so long to load the buttons every single time we want to post?  And can that be fixed?

The delay seems to come more from loading the thread in the scrollbox
at the bottom of the page rather than in loading the tools
themselves.  On a T1, until it finished loading all the sigpics
and everything for the thread, it didn't display the posting tools for
me.  Maybe if there were a way to toggle that, it would solve the
issue for dialup users?

I noticed something that appears to be slowing the load time for the tools. When you post in an image heavy thread like <a href="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/80/Topic/44574/currentpage/2/page/help_with_name_of_movie.htm#bottom" target="_self">this one</a>, when you get to the "reply to topic" page, if you look at the status bar on the bottom of the screen in IE, it appears that all of the pictures in the thread are being loaded.  Until they are all loaded, the tools will not appear.

OK the tools seem to be loading a bit faster, but as Mikeyboy said, the bigger the thread the longer you have to wait for the tools to load.  If you can limit the thread preview thing to the last 20 replies or something and fix the millenium it takes to backspace, I'd be happier.

The backspace thing works if you hold the button down. You will, of
course, overshoot your target by ten spaces and then have to deal with
the excruciatingly slow one at a timers. This whole fucking
site has slowed to a crawl. I thought it was my computer, but
apparently everyone else is having the same problem. The new tools suck. Could we have an option of using the old system for those of us that dont want or need the new features?  Also
I used to post daily, and when I'm not in the mood to deal with this
crap, I dont bother. I wonder if the daily post totals are down. Others
who just gave up. I know I've seen alot less of Moe lately. I wonder
how many others there are.

hot tip - instead of backspacing just highlight the info to be deleted and hit space bar - one clean swoopThat is slow too.  Maybe a better idea for deleting a large area, but it takes twice as long to leave the keyboard and mouse over to the shit as it would be to just backspace 4 to 5 spaces. Also, what the fuck is up with having to download a program to spellcheck?  I am not downloading it, period.  I don't know what the fuck that is or where it's from.  How can Blogger have NEVER asked me to download anything and spell check me at the end of a post, and here I need a program?

it seems to me that Jeff has been working on addressing and fixing the 'complaints'... i'm sure it can take some time and all are not 'quick fixes'. If he said 'live with it' to all the complaints and planeed to do nothing about them then i could see 'bitching' about them. Jeff has done a great job Administering the board up to this point so why not give him the benefit of the doubt and some time to get things in order...the big issue is 'loading time' and i believe he said he was working on iti just downloaded the spellcheck and it works great, and i like the smiley faces,,, to be honest i would post here regardless of whether it's with new or old toolsi say Yes and give Jeff time to work out the kinks...

For what reason?  That would suggest someone would care about the results.  If you go back in this thread, you'd see that most people are either against the tools, against what the tools did to the site load times or are failry indifferent.  I'd say a majority of us either don't care which tool set is up or REALLY REALLY don't want this one.

You also need alot of time to keep a development environment as 'up-to-date' as your production. Especially with upgrades and bug fixes which occurr more often than you would think. So he may not have had the luxury of 'fully' testing the toolset on an alternate machine with the exact OS and applications as the production machine. maybe?To be honest there's been some delay but i haven't really seen a drop in posting up to this point. The board always has it's good, really good, bad and really bad days as far as posting goesand i tell ya, the spellcheck is pretty cool, and it's very fast...

I increased the load time by disabling the iframe at the bottom of the page on replies. Now when you want to view the message, you click the button that says "open thread in new window". This will pop open a new window, and you can drag and drop pictures and text into the post control.I think it actually works better than our old system... Testing

I also removed some unnecessary functions like table controls and limited it to stuff most commonly used. This should increase the load time of the post control itself. It loads a lot quicker, but yes, the backspace problem still exists sometimes.  If you're doing just one backspace, there isn't much of a problem, but if you're going back more than one, it lags up a bit and you cant see what you're backspacing until atleast two seconds later.

I see the backspace issue, I'll see what the dev community says about it...for now you can either use SHIFT + left or right arrow to select and delete your text or use your mouse button to highlight that which you want to delete...its actually quicker and more accurate, but i'll see what i can do about this...

The new system sucks more donkey cock than a Tijuana sideshow. You have to wait forever for the page to load. When you use the backspace key while trying to compose a post, you have to hit the key, and then wait a few seconds before you see the changes. I had to spend an untold amount of time having to put the cursor over the icons until a drop window appeared so I knew what the fuck they were for. You can't even copy and paste something from within what you just wrote in the response box to be used later in the same post.The old system was fine.Nobody likes it, so just fucking put it back the way it was until you find something new or just leave it the way it was. *edited to add: Oh yeah, when you edit, it fucks up your sig settings and you have to try and edit it again.And I took out the part where I called Jeff stupid, even though I have had to edit this about six times to get it to look the way I want it to, and it still doesn't.   <img src="http://atamichimpo.50megs.com/images/skidbeafsgtwistedsig.jpg" border="0" />I am an essential worker!

I like what you do here Jeff to make this a more funner environment.
The new tools, I like them. I've gotten quite used to them and all is
well with the world. I woul djust cry if the whole look and/or format
of the board would change. I like the look and style of this place. It
is kind of like a cool new car that you get and every now and again you
decide to trick it out. Little subtle changes are pretty nice. I really
want to be able to post Flash Movies right in the thread. It would be
fun to just POW Drag and Drop a file in here and hen you could all
preview it and ciriticize it before I send it in to Nickelodeon and
Nelvana.

OK, not JUST to be a dick, but now that the only person who was fighting for these tool changes is gone, can we have the old system back or what?  The backspace problem still exists and no one seems to care.  The whole thread loading below the reply feild is gone now, but with the old tools, I wasn't having that much of a problem with that feature.  And there's still stupid tools we don't need like date and time stamps, anchors and subscript.  The page gets fucked up when you edit.  WHY IS THERE A SAVE feature?!?!  Clean up messy code?  Outdent? Find/relpace?  This place is STILL:<img src="http://unhallowed.com/sigs/RFW.jpg" border="0" />ONLY thing I like is the new way we can edit pictures.

There are a number of people with ColdFusion experience in the O&A and Ron & Fez community who can point them in the right direction. The language itself is very easy to learn if you have previous PHP/ASP experience, and its well documented on the internet. Most of the code is commented so the programmer has an idea of what file goes with what. Let's leave me out of it please. I didn't step down so you could continue to drag me through the mud. I supported the tools, I still do, but its completely out of my hands now. Moe just likes to be an asshole.  there is a backspace problem but its not that big of a deal.  and god forbid you have to click twice to post a quote.  i know how hard it is to click once, but all that time to do it a second time...just not enough seconds in a day.  fingers crossed hoping he leaves again.

I am openly an asshole.  I'm not going anywhere, so hate me and hate your time here if you want to.The tools are gay, and you know that there were an OVERWHELMING majority of posters wo thought the same way.  I guess most of them just bent over and accepted the problems.  They are overly complicated and no one uses over half of them.The backspace problem is the #1 bitching point for me now.  IT consumes my whole time posting here.  I'm not a professional data entry technician or secretary, so I misspell things.  I'm not going to highlight and delete things everytime I misspell something, and to backspace, there's a 2 second delay at least, depending on how far I want to go back.Again, This topic will be topped constantly until the problem is resolved.Oh yea, Editing is fucking gay too.<img src="http://unhallowed.com/sigs/NewToolsSuckAss.jpg" border="0" /> <a href="http://www.unhallowed.com/">www.unhallowed.com</a> <a href="http://thebigsexxxy.blogspot.com/">One Big SeXXXy Blog</a>

Currently, I am the staff technology person.  I have also been
pulling long nights at work for server migrations (any IT people will
tell you about that hell).  I was staying at work as late as
1am.  That meant there was no time for any RF.Net development. My
schedule finally lightened and I caught up on my sleep, so I'll finally
have time to look into things like this.  We are keeping track of
all issues people bring up on the site.  If there's anything
technology-wise on the site, you can contact me or any other mod and
it'll get posted in the Staff Room.
