I find that when I oversleep, like heaven forbid I get an extra hour or two of sleep on the weekend or whatever, that my ribs and back begin to ache badly and it becomes the only thing Im thinking about and it compels me to get out of bed.

Does this happen to anyone else? The pain actually scares me a little, like as if my intestines are rupturing or something...

I used to have this happen to me when I drank. Then i stopped drinking and it still happened on nights when I am really tired. Here is the conclusion I came to.

When you sleep on normal nights, like when you have work the next day, you are more tense during the night and never get into a really deep sleep; on the weekends you know you have nothing to do the net day and really get a chance to relax, and your body unwinds from the week.

While you are doing this, you muscles stretch more than they are used to, and you wake up sore almost like you were working out the night before. Just a theory.

Thanks, I have just been looking online and its really not easy when you try searching and have the words "pain, ribs, back, sleep" in any combination because it pulls up tons of crap unrelated. What do you think it could be? Im not asking for medical advise and I know better than to just believe what I see on a posting board etc. But it is an annoyance and the only thing that makes it go away is getting up and moving around. Within a half hour, I feel fine. Sometimes I wonder if its my body just saying "Get up! Dont be lazy!"

If I sleep on a weird angle, the pain will wake me up.

Sometimes I have pain if I sleep on my side at night, usually in my ribs. You might just be sleeping in a weird position.

i normally get to bed at 3 am, wake up around 8, with a 'get up to pee' somewhere inbetween. So it's not good sleep at all. if i decide to stay in bed for a couple hours then i'll doze off for 30-45min at a time. But when i get up i feel achy and beat up for a while, but no serious pain... i say to myself i should have got out of bed at 8 but i feel it's better i got some extra sleep...

I agree with Mikey and Reeshy. Either your mattress really sucks or you should see a doctor. Either way its about $200
Can placebos cause side effects? And if so, are the side effects real?
