I have been carrying one of these (but all black) everyday for about 15 years now.

I feel naked without it. I have also collected a few other versions of it as well as other brands and I also have been wanting to get my hands on a M1 Garand bayonet from WWII.
Please dont think Im a nut for wanting these things, I just have a fondness for them, and I use them for their utility and to peel fruit or whatever.
I wouldnt dream of hurting someone with it, unless mine or someone I loved life was threatened.
If I could afford it, Id love to buy an authentic samarai sword. Does anyone else collect knives or other sharp edged pointy things?

A BIG knife is unnessecary these days. They're useful things to keep on you it seems. Grim Sanity and Unhallowed's singer Bob carry them. But I just have enough shit in my pockets so I don't carry one. I do carry a Leatherman style multi tool on my belt at work, but I mean that's for work. I take it off at home or hanging with Mr Cooper.

I've always admired all forms of knives and swords, but I've never been into collecting them. It's WAY too expensive a hobby for something that you really can't use. When I get a knife that is highly functional, I'm happy as can be (especially if I get a good deal on it). I did have one collector's piece though. About 10 years ago, I got a bayonet at a flea market for 20 bucks. It turned out to be a Spanish model from 1899. It wasn't good for anything, but I liked thinking that it may have once been pointed at Teddy Roosevelt on San Juan Hill.

Holy crap... I just looked it up, and the bayonet was made a year AFTER San Juan Hill. Good thing I ended up selling it in a yard sale.

on a side note, if you go to the duty free shop at the candian boarder coming back from montrael, you can get a sick swiss army knife for a great value.

The knife I carry is several times faster to deploy than a butterfly knife. I have my eye on the Garand bayonet on eBay. What will I do with it if I win it? I'll probably clean it up and it will sit on a shelf or a wall as a decoration.

I love things that are well made, rugged and functional, like tools and such that design wise, are symbolic extensions of the makers pride. When I look at things, I can imagine somoen making it and the hard work and precison that was necessary, particularly long ago (that bayonet was made probably in the early '40's, and used in WWII) when manufacturing wasnt automated.
The other knife that I carry (pictured in the first post) was made in Japan in Seki City, where many of the best sword makers were from. If you look at it and see how its made, it impresses you that the person actually cared to do a good job and fitted it together nicely.
I have a leatherman like Moe describes that I used to wear, and it was an early model and I tried using it to open a tight screw once and the tip of the screwdriver bent.
