Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor pulled his band out of the MTV Movie Awards. It seems their performance was planned with a backdrop of G. W. Bush as it played "The Hand That Feeds", which was deemed inappropriate by MTV executives. Trent stated that the song is about blindly following authority and he refused to change it up for MTV.

WABC radio reported that Trent also said, "It appears MTV execs find the image of our president as offensive I do."
Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor!
So they should just perform as the MTV dictates? I respect the fact that they pulled out based on principle. Perhaps his forum should be a little watched program, that would make sense. The Fuck MTV part I totally agree with.

to vote for, just shut up and play the music, thats why people like

yea but thats not the point, the point was he wanted to have this big
dickhead sign and all these other things in the background. it wasnt
that MTV said they couldnt express there ideas as a song, its just that
they wanted to do extra shit to make a political statement. if you put
your feelings in a song, fine, but shut the fuck up and play the song,
i dont wanna here your politics before and after
It is in the song, and the video montage behind them is part of his creation. Take it or leave, just what Trent said to MTV. They left it bc MTV has no balls. Music has always been on the forefront of politics and war, and always will.

i understand that, but you are missing something. remember the dixie
chicks, there career basically ended cause of an unpopular stance they
stated publicly. had that been in a song, no one says shit, like no one
says shit about all the other bands who write songs like that, green
day being an example. i dont care what they say in a song, thats their
song, but i dont want them being preachy. maybe the video thing went
with the song, im not a big fan of them, but still, if its not in the
song, i dont wanna know about. i paid to here the song, not look at a
political ad campaign while they play it
would have said on MTV would have gone after MTV, like the people who
went after WNEW for what OnA ssaid. Im not sayin it lets the artist off
the hook, but it definately causes false blame. and if WNEW wasnt held
responsible, then why did the ENTIRE station, sans a couple producers
to run things, get fired. it wasnt just OnA, it was everyone on air,
all the PD's, the GM, it was EVERYTHING

When the Dems were in power, it was all about liberal politics. Now the GOP is in power, and to hell with free speech. The hypocrisy in that is clearly evident in their recent history. I'll map out a timeline for you, so you can see how blatantly obvious it is. This was a station built on underground rebellion. Headbanger's Ball. Beavis & Butthead. We're in your face and we're not going anywhere. Somewhere along the line a decision was made to throw that idealism out the window in place for a more commercially viable programming thats as easily digestable as possible.

This is my issue with MTV.
