• inciting and/or
pursuing arguments or infighting 
• personally attacking other board

I sure as hell didn't jump on Mojo for what he tried to do. This thread has turned into liquid shit ever since Chuck & Buck decided to take it over. And I don't have a major league rulebook, but when there is a tie, it's not STATED "Tie goes to the runner", but the ump calls the runner safe.

I DO have a major league rulebook, the fact is if the throw DOES NOT beat the runner, the runner cannot be ruled out. Obviously, "tie goes to the runner" isn't official, but it does translate into a safe call. One more thing....can ya'll stop your pissin and moanin and get back to the game! I know the franchise, I know its history, and I sure as hell know its present. I know these aren't exactly MAJOR points, but on two ocassions already, Spoon has weighed in on a play he didn't see, and thought that the Yankees played Tamba Bay for 3 games instead of 4. Granted, these don't affect one's knowledge of the game, but clearly he's not on top of the details of the Yankees. So you can't possibly challenge my knowledge of this team unless you raise something valid.

sucking is also retarded. so giambi is hitting 230, there are 8 to 10
other guys on the team that should be hitting well enough that one
postition wont hurt. the whole team is fucked. firing someone wont fix
it, making 1 trade isnt gonna fix it (and BDC, getting griffey DAMN
SURE aint gonna fix it). you just say ridiculous things and based on
that, i know that to know more about baseball then you, basically you
just have to know where first base is

St. Louis didn't count, because once again... I KNEW THE DETAILS of that situation. Probably 75% of the runs he gave up in that game were due to errors on the field, NOT WALKS, HITS, OR HOMERUNS. I blame that on the defense, not his pitching. His other outing was not STELLAR, but I wouldn't call it a BAD outing. He wasn't pulled before the 6th, and until the last game against TB, he had given up ONE homerun TOTAL in 50-something innings. I still think, as far as purely pitching goes, his outing against TB was his first genuinely BAD outing where he didn't have ANY of his stuff. I gotta run for now.

spoon, my point was players like Ledee and Spencer were not players
capable of playing everyday, whereas Soriano and Johnson are. Ledee
never once played over 88 games for the Yanks in his 3 years there,
batting at best .271 if I'm not mistaken (with two season in the
.240's, he couldn't even hit while he was with the Yanks, let alone
when he left). I don't even know if Shane Spencer is in the league
anymore. Saying so many Yanks can't hit after they leave NY, and using
names like Ledee to back that statement up is just plain stupid.

I'll tell you what, theyre clearly squeezing the Yanks on these close calls.  Sheff was safe.  Not like we havnt had calls our way in the past, but these calls suck.  I mentioned in the off-season moves thread that getting Beltran would be the biggest move we'd do.  Seems I was right on except the fact we didnt get him.  After the loss to Pedro, I felt the season was over.  We always find a way to beat that douche, and he beats us as a Met.  And why the fuck does Moose, the guy that refuses to throw up n in, always seem to start against the guy that throws at us all the time?  Didnt matter this time but damn.I'm saying right now that I feel the seasons done for us.  We aint making the playoffs.  I dont care if the Mets score 30 runs in the 9th and we score 32 to win the game, the seasons still over.  Everything they do sucks.  Nobodies dependable.  Hopefully Wang looks alright and cano improves.  If they get Griffey, itll be the dumbest move they ever make.  Theres no centerfielders out there I really like because of injuries, age or whatever,  so they might as well get a middle tier type guy next year.  Fuck Damon and his overpriced contract his agent will have him get.  They gotta hold tight until they produce the next Bernie.  Shouldda had Beltran and Vlad.

Yankees need to bite the bullet and take a few years to rebuild from within...they need to suck it up and work on developing those farm teams so they'll have a stable of young talent to work from.  It's really the backbone of what's helped the Braves make it to the postseason for so long now, and the Cubs finally wised up and started doing over the last 3-4 years...like I said in the MLB thread, the amount of talent they have in AA and AAA is scary-good.  That's really the Yankees' best shot for having another multi-year dynasty run in the near future...they simply can't outspend everyone for the big shot old timers anymore and expect to win.

I agree Mojo, the Braves are essentially playing with a AAA club
right now and they still lead the NL wild card race (not to mention
their 13 straight division titles).  Outbidding every ML team
doesn't always guarentee success. But with that said, even
though this years Yanks might suck there's no way I'll stop loving them
or watching every single game. That's part of being a good fan,
watching your team win and watching them lose. I'll still believe in
them until they're offically, mathmatically eliminated from playoff
contention.

As a whole, that game was ugly.  The Yankee outfield is a nightmare.  Womack looked like shit in center and Reese was anything but solid in the field and looked lost at the plate.  Shef did have two bad strike calls against him and was safe at first.  So I agree with Wadd on something, write it down.  After he got thrown out, the outfield the Yanks fielded might have been their worst in 20 years.  What was it, Sierra, Williams (at this point in his career) and Johnson?  It's a good thing the Mets decided to take the rest of the night off behind the plate. It ultimately came down to Willie's pitching calls.  He has absolutely no confidence in any of the younger players in the pen.  I also think he pulled Benson too early.  Overall, a waste of a few hours for Mets fans.  And BC, you win the honorary Chickenhawk award for June!  Congrats stupid!

I was wrong. Though having watched every game this year, this is maybe

you're partially right. I think there's alot to be said for homegrown
talent. Particularily in the Yankees case, where its a pretty unique
situation. And they're homegrown guys have been the ones who've been
the core of the group that made the run, w/the exception of O'Niell.
But they dont need to bite any bullets. They can still use free agency
and trades to fill in where they cant from within. When the Yanks were
on their run in 1996-2000 they brought up one rookie a year. They got
away from that in the past few years, and notice that when they brought
up Cano and Wang, the team got a shot in the arm. Bringing along young
players makes a team more cohesive, and keeps it hungry. And the
only "old" guy they brought in was Randy, who was terriffic last year
and every year before it. The young guys they've brought in
(Pavano/Vasquez/Wright/Weaver) have sucked donkey dick. And Clemens was
36 when he got here, and was an excellent addition. Point is build from within where you can, but if a great player's available get him.

 I dont get what Florida's doing. They're still in the mix. This
looks like cashing out to me. They claim they want help for this year,
but I doubt they'll get anything close to their asking price. He's
good, all the talent in the world, but hasn't produced the results
you'd like to see. And they have a good hitting team this year, maybe
the best in the division. 5-5 record. Can you say Jeff Weaver? We have
to be real cautious about bringing in "promising" NL pitchers (like
Vasquez, who BTW has a 4+ ERA in the NL). I say stay in the mix, if for no other reason to drive up the price for the O's, then let him go there. 
 There's also talk of them sending CF Juan Pierre to the Yanks,
who the Yanks have loved for years. In Pierre's case, I understand they
have a kid they like and want to put in his place. Leadoff hitter, Good
CF glove, grew up idolizing Mickey Rivers. Perfect. I just hope he

prospects, for Burnett and Pierre I'd do in a half-second. The Yanks
NEED a CF, if only for defense. At the least he'd keep the out machine
(Womack) out of the lineup. Pierre is everything Womack is but better,
MUCH better when he's playing up to his level.I can't tell you
how much I hated watching Beltran run down balls last night that no OF
on the Yanks roster would have a chance in hell of sniffing. Not that
I'm saying that they should have signed Beltran, but I think the CFs
are costing the Yanks more runs than any of us realize, and we already
know they are costing them a lot.

That's not even my point Hb.  The main crux of my argument is that the Reds will be looking to dump salary and acquire some prospects or younger players for the future.  So how does trading for a 40 year old, chronically injured (hang nail), 15.7 million dollar, right-hander make sense?  Milton's is also a 29 year old lefty being paid 5.3 million a year.  Never going to happen.  Although it sounds like you're happy about that.

the Red Sox are losing 7-0 I look on ESPN its 1-0. Nobody corrects itThen Kay says there have been 2 balks tonight, both against Oriole pitchers. One against Pavano. Nice Sheff tacks one on. His #s are good, but he's been quiet this year. Last year it seemed every HR was meaningful.

I think the funniest part about it was he actually DID balk. I could

and accepting the fact that baseball is a game of failure. I just
couldn't imagine what you would be like if you were a Pirates fans or
Brewers fans when your team doesn't win every year. This is why all the
other fans in this country loathe Yankee fans, you guys can not accept
failure. Losing games, and *gasp*, even losing seasons are part of this
game. It's not like you have to be happy when your team loses, every
fan wants their team to do well and succeed, but you have to understand
that it just doesn't always happen (even with a $200 million payroll).

have been brutal tonight. First Ken Singleton says the Red Sox are
losing 7-0 I look on ESPN its 1-0. Nobody corrects it thats
because it indeed was 7-0 and ESPN just didnt update it yet. I say this
only cause the indians first 2 runs came on the same play, so 1-0 would
never even be posted on the board.

I've learned in recent years that if you're a Yankee fan and want decent announcing, you're out of luck. Michael Kay is a gimmicky windbag, and you can't turn to the radio, cuz it only gets worse... John Sterling is the ultimate gimmick announcer. He's got a retarded catchphrase for everything... "It is high, it is far! A-BOMB FOR A-ROD, BERN BABY BERN! ROOKIE ROBBY CAN-DO!" His partner, I don't even wanna get into... I've already started an "I Hate Suzyn Waldman" thread in the past. And it hurts my head to think about YES's lockerroom bitch (I forget her name). She is atrocious! Her voice is like sandpaper for the ears, and her questions are absolutely HORRENDOUS. I don't know how Joe Torre and the players don't just jump up and start strangling her. Example: The Yankees come back and win a close game, she'll shove her mic in Joe's face and say "You won today, did that make you feel good?" YOU FUCKING 'TARD! YES, IT FELT GOOD. Here's the rundown on the Payroll Ranking for the World Series teams since 1995.  The winner will always be listed first.95     #3 Braves     #9 Indians96     #1 Yanks     #3 Braves97     #7 Marlins    #4 Indians98     #2 Yanks     #14 Padres99     #1 Yanks     #3 Braves00     #1 Yanks     #6 Mets01     #8 Dbacks    #1 Yanks02     #15 Angels    #10 Giants03     #25 Marlins    #1 Yanks04     #2 Boston     #1 Yanks     Hence only 3 of 18 World Series teams in the last 9 years have been ranked out of the top 10 in payroll.  Meanwhile 12 of 18 have been in the top five.  Teams are trying to adjust and find ways around it, but it seems that it will take more time.  Teams like to Twins, A's, Brewers and Jays have been working the youth/pitching system.  The Twins and A's are much further along, but I like the trends for teams like the latter.  However, I don't think it can ultimately level the playing field.  Money does buy championships, just not always for the same team or just the top payroll.  The average payroll rank for the WS winners is 6.2, while 5.7 for the runner up.  Take out the Marlins of "03" and the Angels of "02" and the average rank for winners is 3.5 .  Sorry, I just love to analyze the downfall of a great sport.<img src="http://members.aol.com/dxixrxt/spoon2.jpg" border="0" /> Get your balls out of your purse and step up to flavor! difference is expectations. I really thought going into the season this
was a 105 win team. Then throw in what happened w/the Red Sox and I
couldn't wait to beat the piss out of the Sox and the rest of the
league. Then this happens. Picture your bud sets you up on a
blind date, tells you she's a curvy brunette. You're picturing Selma
Hayek, you open the door and Rosie O'Donnell shows up. All about
expectations. I wasn't like this in 2001, we just
won 4 of 5. 2002 team needed work. 2003 we were spent from the Sox
series, and Wells back goes out at the absolute worst time possible.
Shit happens. But this team on paper looked like the best one since 98.
And payroll only matters to Yankee fans when they're NOT performing. And
losing your shit is the definition of being a fan. When they win, you
love them and they're the best team ever. And when they make an error
and lose, you throw your shoe at the TV.And
I'll post this again, I've been watching this team since 1977. So dont
lump me in with the younger fans, who never watched Stump Merrill coach
a team.

BDC, that's the biggest problem with yankee fans. You don't know which onces are genuine and which ones have hopped on for the ride. I'd say MOST have gotten into them since they became the trendy team to like in the 90's. Usually the old "who played short before jeter" is usually a good way to find out which is which.04     #2 Boston     #1 Yanks     I'm pretty sure boston beat the cards.

I think it is time to call what is happening to the Yankees what it is - a curseAnd who is the person that has cursed the Yankees - none other then Mike Mussina the curse of the Moose.  Remember when he left Bmore for the Yankees all we heard was how Mussina would win 20 games a year for the next six years instead the Yankees have gotten solid but unspectacular pitching from Mussina but he is no where near the pitcher he once was (IMO it was the line drive he took off the head that changed him)But now to why he has cursed your franchise - remember back when Bmore hosted the All Star game and Torre was the manager.  Mussina was on the team a home town favorite and Torre told him he would not pitch unless the game went extra innings (which it didn't).  However, low and behold the bottom of the eighth inning Mussina began to warm up getting the home crowd pumped thinking he would pitch the ninth but it wasn't to be.  And everyone agreed that Mussina basically showed Joe Torre up.  So now that ill will from back in the All Star game has led to the collapse of a once proud franchise

Nice catch Mikey, I was just about to post that the great Cito Gaston was the coach.  I was living in PA at the time, close to where Mussina was from, and heard shit for it being a Jays fan for years.  At the time I thought it was an asshole move by Cito.  I shouldn't have doubted the Great Gaston, bc now he's a Yank and I'm sure Gaston felt it coming.  He was like Yoda feeling the evil in Anikan (sp).  And oops on the Cards thing.  However it was worth it bc Snoogs and KO cracked me up.  I had a lot of info/factual numbers (you should try using these sometime BC/CH) written down and for some reason put the Yanks in the series again.  I'd change it, but I don't want to pull a bull'dog'shit move and cover my idiotic tracks.  And enjoy watching Wang get smashed tonight.  That's my super number 1 prediction ESD!

No, Torre needs to go. And it fucking pains me
to say it, but its like he lost his mind in the offseason. There is no
excuse for the awful decision after awful decision he's made all
season. I don't want it to end this way, he deserves better, but unless
he immediately starts acting like a remotely competent manager he needs
to go.And here's a fucking talking point for tomorrow's Tampa
meeting: What to do with this awful bullpen. It's a fucking dead zone
beyond Gordon, Rivera and Sturtze. Get rid of Quantrill, Stanton and
Groom by any means and call up some young arms. At least if THEY suck,
there's some hope they will get better in the future. And if you are
going to keep Torre, fucking ORDER him to stop overusing Gordon, Rivera
and Sturtze. Use fucking Shock Therapy if you have to. Put fucking
snipers in the stadium to stop him if you have to.

could have saved the game.And there was no excuse for letting

David Wells, dominate like that in his final innings. And fucking Ruben
Sierra, killing two innings with identical double plays.Wang
deserved better. He probably should have pitched the 8th. But I can

Hey man, you know how much I appreciate the anger.  There is a difference when you make sense during a rant, versus blaming a player you personally don't care for.  Torre's move was idiotic.  I've gone through many outbursts like yours above being a Jays fan these last few years.  However, the Jays manager made an amazing move in their game tonight.  Halladay and Kazmir pitched to a 1-1 tie, with Halladay going 9 and Kaz needing help bc he only pitched 6.1 innings.  First, Huckaby replaced Zaun as defensive sub in the bottom of the ninth bc he protects the plate like a champ.  He doesn't play much bc he hits like a blind man.  Nothing much happens until the bottom of the 10th when the DRays get runners on 1st and 3rd with one out.  Gibbons (Toronto's manager for those who don't follow the anything outside of NY) then subs Gabe Gross into left field (rookie with a cannon) for Frank Catalanotto.  Sure enough the next batter hits a fly ball to left field, decent depth, and Gross fires a rope to Huckaby nailing the runner.  As good as the throw was, it wasn't enough to nail the runner.  Huckaby blocked the reach of Munson's head first slide with his right leg in an unbelievable play.  Hats off to you Gibby.  The best Jays manager since Cito Lays!  Funny he came up today in another thread.

least split time, and I fear that Cairo would even get more time.But
it is better than straight up. Makes the bench deeper. But the more
interesting part is that the Yanks DO have a backup plan in case they
don't get Kotsay. And that would be Juan Encarnacion. And they would
only have to give up Paul Quantrill to get him. That seems too good to
be true. Even if it were true, I'm sure the brainiacs in tampa would
still piss away a bunch of good prospects for the average
Kotsay.

I posted that a Cam and Cairo for Cano and Quantril before.  This one actually makes sense for both teams, if the Yanks are as high on Duncan as they say.  That way he could take a shot at 2nd or possibly move Arod there.  Also, they would have Cairo to fill the hole for the time being.  Also, they would get a pretty good CF while keeping Matsui in left and Shef in RF.  Will they trade Cano?  I have no idea.  I wouldn't.  However, if the Mets could get an arm (albeit one that hasn't been that good this year) and another young infielder like this I'd take it.  Imagine the likes of Wright, Reyes and Cano for the next ten years.  I personally would love to see that.

How about this three-way trade:Hudson from the Jays to the Mets.Cameron & Cairo from the Mets to the Yanks.Wang from the Yanks to the Jays.Quantrill from the Yanks to the Mets. * BC I almost guarantee Hudson is gone.  Looking at this one, perhaps the Mets get too little.  But I do believe the Yanks will trade either Duncan, Cano, or Wang.  They'll try Womack, Williams and other scrubs, but will only be able to package them (and possibly pick up salary too).

Duncan will play 1st if by some miracle he survives long enough to make the Yanks.Sheffield
has made my gotta go list today along with Womack, and everyone in the
bullpen not named Rivera, Sturtze and Gordon. I'm seriously prouder to
have Giambi in pinstripes than Sheffield. The best part of getting rid of Sheffield is that he can bring back something worthwhile.

After his press conf. today, Shef will be almost impossible to trade.  He as much as said he would be nothing but trouble for any team, even the Mets, if traded.  And he means it.  Does anybody remember his showing in Milwaukee?  He played so half ass bc he wasn't happy.  Fans still boo him there.  When fans in Milwaukee boo you after 14 years, you have a real problem.

Box, he won a gold glove last year.  That's what his defense is like.  He's actually a better fielder than hitter.  The last two years he started the seasons very slow and turned it up both times at the end of May.  I've read many statements from JP saying Wells, Halladay, Chaucin, Rios, Hill and Adams are the untouchables in the organization.  Unless it was one hell of a package, there is very little chance of this one happening.

"We'd rather do something early, but it's not going to be someone that's going to be here for half a year," Ricciardi said recently. "We're not going to burn our prospects and our money for half a year. If we do something early, it will be something that lasts a year and a half or longer." The Jays are finally at a point where there are little or no financial restrictions limiting their creativity. Toronto's owner pledged $210 million in disposable funds for 2005-2007, and only $50 million of that is wrapped up in the current club. The rest is Ricciardi's to spend as he sees fit, which could mean a myriad of options. The Jays want to add young players that can grow with the rest of the organization, but there may not be any available at an affordable price. Ricciardi can always add a hefty contract if he thinks it helps his team, but he could also wait until the Winter Meetings, where he'd likely be a major player. "Everybody says we've got all this money and that's great, but you've still got to get someone that wants to come here," he said. "Look at the Tigers last year -- they were in on every free agent and couldn't get anyone to take the money. We've got to be in the position where we can take on some contracts that people want to move." This is definitely the time of year for that type of gambit. If the Jays are willing to move some of their prospects -- and all indications say they are -- they could swing a deal with a team that's out of the hunt. Toronto's executives are pointing toward contention in 2006 and 2007, but their spot in the standings may cause them to reconsider as the deadline draws closer. The Jays have five likely untouchables: Roy Halladay, Vernon Wells and youngsters Alex Rios, Aaron Hill and Russ Adams. You can also add Corey Koskie, who recently signed a multi-year deal and is currently on the disabled list. Also, Ricciardi is unlikely to deal any of the team's recent high draft picks, most of which are young arms moving through the organization.There you go.

pure hitter on the Yanks, Doesn't quite put up A-Rods #s, but close.
And has amazingly fast hands. A truly great pure hitter. Possible
future hall of famer.

when someone cuts off your legs when you are trying to improve the team
they're an asshole. Let's just assume this team tanks in the next few
weeks and they have to start thinking about next season. Well, this is
one option that's already closed. Not to mention they way he's been
half assing it in the outfield. But that's OK, because outfield defense
isn't one of this team's most glaring problems. And let's not forget
the rumors that he's been a cancer in the clubhouse. 
Maybe he can start showing he wants to be a Yankee through his
actions. Let's not forget that Sheffield was head choker #1 of the
chokers in the Red Sox series. Let's not forget that he has a .258
postseason average for his career, with only 16 RBI in 36 games.Plus,
the only point of getting Cameron or Kotsay is defense. And I'm not
sure anybody here wants Kotsay, especially for good prospects. I'd
never trade Sheffield straight up for Cameron, it depends what comes
with Cameron. I'm not so sure we can count on Sheffield's super fast
bat being there next year, and even if it is he's gone after next year.
Trading him for some younger, promising players in the event of
disaster could have helped in the next few years, but now that's moot.Let
me ask you this. If the Yanks were about to unload Tony Womack, and he
short-circuited the trade because he pulled the same shit Sheffield
just pulled, would that make you like Womack better?

I wouldn't trade Sheffield this year at all....like him or hate- he's our three-hole hitter....you can't trade him unless you're getting another three-hole hitter in return. And Cameron cannot hit third, even if he is a great defensive outfielder.
