As most of you know, I'm an ardent O&A fan, and I've been one since 1999.  So I'm oldschool.A lot of you also know I have issues with a certain O&A fansite, but that's besides the point.I don't like the pests.At first, it was funny when a couple of the attacks went down with the new XM show.  The Tony Danza thing was hysterical because there were just so many parts to the bit.  It wasn't just the messageboard takedown; it was Ant's impressions, it was the prank calls, it was the critique of the Danza show.This Phillips Phile thing was funny for the first day or two, but now it just sucks and it's awful.  The pests are the lowest common denominator of O&A fandom and will probably give the rest of O&A fans who are intelligent and actually "get" the show a bad name.In a nutshell, the pests are Norton Parrots... they repeat what he says verbatim and think it makes them witty.  In reality, they are a bunch of unoriginal troublemakers who seek out attention and validation from the show.The thing is, I could never ever say this on an O&A fansite because they would take this as an insult to them.  Well, it probably is insulting, but there's also a kernel of truth.They aren't even that smart.  If I was attacking Phillips' show and wanted to bring that show to an absolute screeching halt, my battle plan would be the true definition of shock and awe.  The next step would be going after his guests - and destroying any website that's plugged when a guest comes in - and destroying his local advertisers' sites.  Could you imagine the kaos of Phillips trying to explain to not only to his guests but the sales department of his station why these morons are shitting all over these sites?But for me to do that - as Bach said on postwhores - it would mean I would have to care enough to do whatever three men I don't know tell me to do for no reward.

I agree, only moreso. I hated the Phillips thing
from the start. I cannot believe they wasted half their show on it one
day last week. I don't give a shit what he says or what bits he steals
from O&A.And I hate the "army" It's a fucking joke that they
go around throwing military terms around like it's something serious,
something that matters. And the fucking ironic thing is that these are
the same numbskulls who will go and throw shit at someone else who does
the same thing, like when that guy on the Browns said he was a
"soldier" last year.And
then there's the fact that these people are spending hours of their
life doing a radio show's bidding. That's incomprehendable to me. I
feel like a loser when I defend O&A on this board. I feel like a
loser posting this. And these people will not only spend hours of their
life calling into a crappy radio show, they will spend another couple
of hours on a message board sucking each others dicks about it.And
none of that would piss me off except that I've had to skip over large
parts of O&A's show over the last week because of the radio cancer
it creates. I wish O&A would just stay with the funny. There's been
way too much extraneous bullshit on their show recently. I wanted to
vomit when they had Hannity on this morning. Treat that guy like the
shit he is. 
But this thread will probably be locked anyway.

I don't listen to the show anymore because A) I have no desire to pay for radio and don't care to sit in front of my computer downloading the shows and B) I think they became soft after landing their big syndication deal and were no longer as funny as they used to be. That said, in regards to these "pests", I find it downright pathetic that these moron's main purpose in life is to appease a radio show. "Oooh, oooh, look at me! I'm gonna do something wacky and zany and then O&A and Norton will recognize me!" Get a fucking life loser! I found it so funny when Anthony ripped "them" a new asshole over the Freda thing because you just knew they were sitting at home or at work near tears because they upset their hero. It's just too bad that Ant and the rest of them didn't continue to give those idiots the cold shoulder and now treat them like "part of the family" again. Like Tenbats said, they are using them as a crutch. Heaven forbid they actually come up with their own material, but I guess that just proves my points from earlier. They became soft from making the big bucks and no loner feel the need to try as hard as they did pre-syndication anymore.

I love the pests, the concept, the attacks, the mischief, everything. I've been a long time listener as well though to me it's just a evolution of the way the show is going. Personally I have no problems with any of the fan-websites or messageboards. I am a poster on Wackbag and have met and became friends with many people there, as I did in the old OA messageboard days. I can understand why some people don't like it and I am sensitive to why people have issues with certain humor put out there. We're all different and have different tastes in things. The way the show is now is fine with me.

i can't stand any over zealous fan ... we are nothing more than consumers or end users, we delude ourselves to believe anything moresports fans feel they're an integral part of the game, and are entitled to act the ass at stadiums and bars fans of radio shows think they're more than just listeners ... maybe o/a are to blame, they can encourage user participation -- but simple-minded twits take things way too far ... and the anonymity of the internet has only made things infinitely worse

I think the Pests are funny.  I also think the tooling on the Wackbaggers is funny.  And if it's not that funny, I flip to The Fish and listen to that.
And it's revisionist history to say the old WNEW show was any different.  Pests were slipping on ice to knock over reporters and whole shows were dedicated to Bang Parties and Spaz in a hotel room.
It just seems like they talk about it more because, well, they talk about EVERYTHING more now.

They played pest audio over and over again, it was hilarious and made for great radio. The only reason you don't like this bit (and I assume as much b/c you didn't post anything when he got attacked) is b/c you can't hear the audio. I listen to the show, some would say I'm pretty involved with it, so I think get it when they say "attack Jim Phillips". Nothing too subtle there. its not wackbag, its a couple of dopes on wackbag who ruin it for everyone. i had strong objecions to the mocking of freda's death. not everyone did it, just a handful. those people in particular can eat shit.

And Jeff, although you make a lot of good points, tell me this...Can you not HONESTLY tell me that one of the main driving forces of the pests is recognition, attention and most importantly, validation from the show?The tool that was in-studio today... he was in there to be outrageous for the sake of being outrageous, was not funny, and I'm really glad he made Wackbag look bad.That guy was a PRIME example of what's wrong with CERTAIN facets of the O&A fandom.

That guy was a PRIME example of what's wrong with CERTAIN facets of the O&A fandom.I agree that Big ASS Aaron's contribution to the show was horrible and pretty much pathetic. It doesn't represent every listerner or contributor to the show. Sometimes bits work and sometimes they don't. It's just the way that it is.

I just always wonder where these people find the free time to do all this shit.  That is all I think about everytime I see and hear about the O&A Army doing all this stuff for the show.  I can't find time to listen to Ron and Fez's show everynight, but these people find not only the time to listen to O&A everyday, but then to plan an attack on a show, listen to all of that show and try to call in?If I had that much free time I could get a really fulfilling hobby.And all these people going crazy for O&A makes me feel they're getting a little "Stern-ish."  Not that they're copying him in the least, just that their fans are getting too insane and the bit will get boring, fast.  For some it already has.  It's just like with Ron and Fez.  My favorite O&A shows are where they're just riffing, having a good time, maybe with a funny regular in studio.  Same thing with ROn and Fez.  They're the best alone with occasional support staff in there, not whole segments devoted to what one intern thinks.  SNORE.

I thought it was funny the first day they did it. It got real stupid after the 1st day, and the people that continued to call into the phillips show started to look really really lame.  I remember someone saying something like they were going to go home early from work to keep calling the phillips show all night.

In a nutshell, the pests are Norton Parrots... they repeat what he says verbatim and think it makes them witty. i work with one of these guys, he says outragous shit (andrea yates/connor peterson humor) to a fair amount of laughter but being an fan of the old show i know he's doing a norton impression to people that never heard the show and have no idea who jim norton is. i just feel bad and uncomfortable on calling him on it. i like norton, i dont like people doing an impersonation of norton. its jsut not as funny when you know it comes from somewhere else.
