They can take ballbusting - they can always take as well as they give.

Ron's reaction to "fixens" is natural - I'd be more concerned if he didn't react that way.

Don't act like they've never broadcast in the South - most of their career has been with the "hayseeds." They will win over rural America, AND will still get to talk about life in NYC.

I loved today's show too - the guys just seem so relaxed and enjoying the whole newness of their situation.

Analog records sound warmer & deeper than digital compact discs. Is the reason similiar?

=

No one knows why, but high-end audio gear is often sold touting that it sound's 'nice and warm like analog' or 'performs just like analog'; Audio gear of all digitial design incorporate good old analog tubes to this day, people/musicians swear by the sound. I own a Korg Triton synth, and amongst all that digitalness is an analog tube, guitarists have been using the overdriving of tube amps to make some of the best guitar sounds in rock.

Several record producers still work with the old standard, 2 inch tape. The Machine, who's production resume escapes me now, but he produced one or both of the last Tool releases; uses 2-inch tape at some rediculous transports speed, something like 6 feet, yes feet, per second. From a former guitar teacher who's on a few dozen famous albums, said in terms of recording music; 'Digital is Goog. Analog, for now, is better. This may change.'

Why? My guess is that we hear what we aren't supposed to. In any digital recording, a decision is made: 'what frequencies are we going to sample?' and the standard is 20Hz-20,000Hz. Now, there are frequencies above and below that, but in many digital recordings, the algorithm is such that anything below 20Hz and/or above 20,000Hz is discarded. Many call this, especially the 'above 20,000Hz' area as 'The Air'. It's also a common source of noise, specifically the hissy hi-freq noise that producers do their best to get rid of, but I think theyre getting rid of somethings that we can indeed hear, or 'feel' in some way, but it's lopped off in the recording.

MP3 works in a similar, but much more drastic way. Any MP3 loses sound quality, the algorith is called a ;Lossey' one for just that reason, part of the data compression is a sharp cut off of frequencies it recognizes to encode. Listen to an MP3 of your fave song, and then the CD version, both in a good stereo, and the loss of high end, and the distortion around sharp dynamics [like cymbal crashes] and the distortion, more accurately the loss, is so apparent.

Analog tape can record it all, warts and all, the noise, the air, the subway under the studio, and at least one famous producer [Brian Eno] not only detests the removal of these frequencies, he uses the noise in musical ways.

Way too long and boring and my guess, failed in its intent, but there ya go.

I missed that part. If so , who was it? How was it?

IMO -

There are fans of the show who try to contribute to the show and then there are the Tenders who have an agenda.

I have to say how happy I've been with the callers this week. Based on what everyone had said, I was really expecting the worst, but (aside from the generic welcoming calls) it's been a great mix of the WNEW fans, with WJFK and even Florida, plus the O&A folk and all of the new folks just calling to say they haven't heard them before, etc. Seems like a good cross section. I hope more people check out 202 to hear them.

They actually had some folks today trying their best to get a pyramid going. They also don't have to worry about having fans that just fall in line with every opnion they have - I can see the phones light up whenever they go into something political.
