I feel like this was already talked about, but my search of the board came up empty.

Awhile back I got one of those refill kits for ink cartridges. I was low on funds and printing A LOT of CD labels for Unhallowed. I just couldn't drop anymore money on new cartridges, so I decided to try these things. For like 15 bucks you get a blue, yellow and red bottle of ink, a cleaning solution if your cartridge is clogged and a pointless syringe to inject the ink. The black one has 3 bottles of black and the cleaning solution. But since the black only holds black, you end up using most of one bottle for one refill.

The ONLY downside is you have to open the cartridge yourself, and you'll probably get ink on your fingers. But for me, the plus has been 2 refills already for just 15 bucks and at least one more to go. My Lexmark cartridges are like 40 bucks for color and 25 to 30 for black. So each kit will end up saving me a lot of money.

My BIG CONCERN was the print quality, but it seems to me the cartridges work fine. Same print quality. Same ink spread. Same strength of the color on the paper. No problems with print head jams or anything like that. So for me, except for having to open my cartridges and getting a little ink on my fingers, everything about the kids has been a positive.

Anyone else? Any bad stuff?

I refilled a cartridge 4 or 5 times, and the last time something happened, and ink linked out of the print cartridge all over the inside and pretty much killed the printer. It could have been a coincidence, but I'd still suggest not to refill the same cartridge too may times.

I was thinking that once the kit was used up, I'd get a new cartridge.

I've been useing a nifty device for my HP Photosmart cartridges. You poke holes in the cartridge, slip into this device that has the 3 colors below, turn the device over, and wait about 15 minutes. It works great!

The only problem is I got it at Wal Mart, and they don't have it any more. I've checked the device and paperwork and can't find the name of it, so I have no way to search for it on the internet. Does this thing sound familiar to anyone else?

Another annoying problem is the damn printer won't reset the color levels when you refill a cartridge. The only way you know if you're running out of ink, is when the prints start looking bad.

the staples' brand works great for me, also see if you can adjust the level of the inked used in the printing (most HP printers allow) ...

if you print via file/print, there's usually an option for printer setup which can allow for some tweaking ... i always print at like 75% and the quality never seems off ...

but, if you working on a huge project, by the time you learn the right tweak, it might not be so cost/time effective ...

I got that beat big time. I coincidentally enough have the same printer at home as I do at work.

I haven't paid for ink in over 2 years. Actually I did buy a photo cartridge for a new multi-function printer I bought a few weeks ago, but luckily the printer uses the exact same cartridges.

There's a place in Hoboken that does this. The ironic thing is I could buy a whole new printer for wha it costs to reolace the cartidges. I may try it once or twice.
"We sound just like Cheap Trick only the guitars are louder," - Kurt Cobain "I prefer to listen to Cheap Trick." -Homer Simpson
