View Full Version : How many times have you blown....

<p>into a Nintendo cartridge over the course of your lifetime?</p><p> </p><p>This
phenmona has fascinated me for years. When I was young, and we
had Nintendo games, it became an unwritten troubleshooter that blowing
into the game would somehow improve its chances from going from blue
screen to the video game. </p><p> Every game, the blue screen was the enemy.</p><p> </p><p>Sometime
the Nintendo would toy with you, and make it a solid blue screen.
Most of the time it would blink. Sometimes it would be white,
sometimes, you would get flashing game screen.</p><p> It wasn't
even so much the blowing, as it was coming up with the proper sequence
of blowing. How much spit should be applied? How quick
should the bursts be? </p><p> My parents must have thought
we were maniacs, kneeling before the tv, games into between our hands,
as we blow furiously and answer back to them "This makes it work!"</p><p> </p><p>No Atari game ever needed to be blown in. Nor any Genesis, or SNES game. </p><p> No,
just the evil Nintendo. A flaw in its basic design made a
generation of kids into foolish saps blowing into grey plastic boxes.<br />

Blowing in a Nintendo cartridge is a logical thing to do. It's done under the assumption that there is some dirt in the cartridge that is causing problems with the screen. I've also only had to do that with Nintendo, but the only other system I've ever had was PS2...

<p>I would blow in them, then when that did work I'd move up to sticking a rubber eraser in there to try to remove stuff from the connection.</p><p>When that didn'w work, the 'ol meatfist would pound the top of the thing. </p><p>But no matter what you did, it always seems like everyone had one or two games that just would never play again, no matter what you did. Blowing in them, the eraser trick, moving the cartridge in the down position slightly from side to side trying to get a clean connection.</p><p>I think the WORST part was getting a shitty game working, you play it, and suddenly it starts turning a million different colors, spitting numbers all over the place on the screen and then just locking up. God I don't miss Nintendo.</p>

<p>I used to pop them in the freezer for a little while too. Don't ask me why. Someone told me that it worked so I tried it.</p>

<p>I recall one game that rarely ever played for me..and that was I believe Super Ghouls N Ghosts. God that game was insanely difficult</p><p> </p><p>But yeah I remember trying to play Super Mario 3 and blowing into the cartridge every few seconds and only seeing a scratchy red curtain with luigi in the top right hand corner upside down</p>

does anyone remember the push down-slide in? You would push the game
down early so it would kinda pop into the system. That seemed to work
pretty well. <br />

<p>I'm a SEGA guy there still alot of blowing involved but the biggest problem was that god damn Power cord that you would eventually have to pull to the side of wrap around something to make it work what the hell was up with that</p>

<p>Hell, remember the flickering on-off light problem with the old 8bit
Nintendos?? Trying to get an older game to work was like launching the
space shuttle.</p><p> </p><p>1) Take out cartridge.</p><p>2) Blow into it.</p><p>3) Put it back into the slot.</p><p>4) Push down and slide another cartridge on top of the one already inserted (remember doing that?!? lol)</p><p>5) Turn on and pray the flickering is gone.</p><p>6) If it still doesnt work, go back to Step 1)</p><p> </p><p> </p>

If blowing into the game didn't work, you usually slammed it against something or gave up and got a q-tip to clean it out. Damn I miss my Nintendo system.
