come on, you can make up to $150+ a day... i know you have to pay to be one, so aside from that, what's the scam? only a few hours a month, you pay out more than you make? what is the deal with mystery shoppers?

Our company hires mystery shoppers. They get $15 and have to ask
a bunch of questions, buy something, then record their experience with
an online form. I guess you get to keep whatever cash you have
left over, but there are very few things in our store that are
cheap. I'm prettys ure the company that works with the mystery
shoppers sends you from store to store, so I guess it's possible you
could work ten or more stores in one day.

I used to work for Maritz Research. Most of my gigs consisted of going to Shell and Texaco stations. I'd get $3.00 in gas (when it was going for a buck 25). I had to time the pump, check out the condition of the store, take pictures, and ask questions of the workers. I got paid back for the gas and got 10 bucks per station. It wasn't bad extra work.

I also tested H&R Block. I had them do my taxes. I got paid back for the fee, and they gave me 40 bucks.

I designed and managed an entire "Quality Control" (read: mystery shopper) program for Consumer Impact Marketing here in Toronto.

It was a nightmare to schedule all the shoppers in all the cities and provinces but, in the end....I really was able to gather a sh*tload of usable info. Many people got fired/promoted based on the mystery shoppers' findings.

On the other hand....some shoppers would only pretend to go to the target location. They would stay home and fill out the forms on their own. They would attempt to predict the outcome and write down what they EXPECTED to see at the location. In about 2% of the cases, I got scammed.

I eventually had to hire shoppers to spy on the mystery shoppers. That was not at all cost effective so, I bought about 24 digital cameras and had the shoppers send "day of" photographs from their target locations. It was a headache but, like I said, a lot was learned.
