View Full Version : ~ Ron/Fez.net's NJ Election ~

Let's have a mini election to see who would win on this site for NJ Governor?
There are some long party entries, so I'll put their complete party label up here if it didn't fit in the poll answers. Vote seriously so we can get a good feel as to which way the board as a whole leans.
3) "Socialist Party USA" (sounds rockin!)
4) "Legalize Marijuana"
6) "Education Not Corruption"
8) "Socialist Workers Party"

I actually met Codey a few times of late as he worked to get these mental health issues taken care. His work was really well reeceived in an area which has historically been underfunded, even in New Jersey. I work in the mental health field and he's a hero right now to the many clinics and patient advocate groups who were promised help nationally from Bush and never got it. Codey made some bold, if not most of the time unpopular moves that gained my respect. He was a really down to earth guy and even gave us his fucking cell number in case we ever needed his ear in his few remaining days. This guy really impressed me, even if we don't agree on all the issues. I'm with H in that as of now he'd have my vote if he ran.

Since when isn't mental health a major part of the health care picture. It's the least funded area of health care bc it isn't as profitable for private business (clinics) and or hospitals. In fact, most area hospitals care so little about the public and only profits that countless hospitals have tried to close down their psych wings/floors despite glaring needs and legal ramifications. Valley Hospital's floor is down, Englewood was close but the state had to jump in and deny it due to very sparse coverage, HUMC is trying everything they can to reduce its floor while still keeping the "comprehensive" hospital coverage claim so it can be Presbyterian on the west side of the Hudson. This has left huge coverage gaps for the mentally ill in Bergen County alone, and it's happening all throughout the state. Drug costs account for only 10-15% of the overall health care cost landscape (all areas of health care) with hospitalization being the biggest percentage and testing close thereafter. Factor in that these pharmaceuticals usually keep hospitalizations down, the drugs usually pay for themselves (eg. BP meds, Statins for cholestrol levels and of course drugs for mental health such as depression, bipolar and schizophrenia). Let's then add in the secondary factors of the criminal costs that many times come in to play with untreated mental health patients (most times bc these pats are neglected and swept aside by these under performing/funded systems) and the overall cost is compounded. I guess it just happens and we need not deal with the physical issues in the brain that lead to these conditions. Don't be so ignorant as to think this wasn't a step in the right direction or at least an issue worth addressing bc you think you pay too much in property taxes. No shit. We all know that. Yet just by reading the way you wrote what you did, with your bolded words and verbiage, shows you're condescending nature to those with mental health issues. Since when did heart disease trump neuropsychiatric syndromes? Psychopharm is as real and physically a problem as narrowed arteries. There just isn't the stigma attached to the later that you seem to suscribe to.

I'll give you a discount on the shipping if you want me to throw in a copy of "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" DVD, bootlegged in Maylasia.). Now I know any comparison between Yemen and the US economic systems is comparing apples and black Ahmish strippers, but why the fuck am I able to pay fuck-all for medicines in a place where there's virtually no demand for them, (qat cures everything in this country), but I pay four times as much in a place where half the friggin country is taking the same shit I am, (OK, one-quarter of the country and Billy Staples is making up the difference)?

Could it be that supply and demand doesn't function according to the simple premises we use - when arguing about it on the internet - when the consumer's only choice is to buy the company's product or be sick and die? It has been priced out of reach of 45 million Americans by companies that are able to exploit the fact that we believe there is such a thing as free market for a commodity in which you either bend over for, or die.

I have medical insurance now. I had to move to Yemen to be able to afford it because travel insurance, which gives me twice the coverage I had with domestic, costs me one third the price JUST FOR GETTING THE FUCK OUT OF AMERICA! It didn't even matter where in the world I was; the price was the same. I talked to the owner of the brokerage I bought this shit from and asked him how this worked - why prices didn't vary from place to place. He told me it was simply that anywhere you go in the world medicine is so much cheaper than in the States, that he makes money just by covering you outside of the country.

Is medical care better in the States than it is in Yemen? So here, I pay the British price-controlled price for them; which is 1/4 the US price and the company still makes money. In America, pretending that essential services like medicine fits a simple free market theory means I have no choice but to bend over for an industry to charge me 4 times what they charge the rest of the world because the game is rigged and they know it.

I've been surrounded by Europeans for the last 8 months here.
