Why was there a big pile of snow in NYC on Friday?

<p>I know the pictures are horrible but all I had on my was my crap camera phone.&nbsp; <br />
<br />
So, Friday night I was wandering around the city and near Astor Place,
up a little bit from the Blue Man Group theater right next to the
Starbucks, there was a large pile of snow on the corner of the
street.&nbsp; The sort of piles you get when the snow plows go through
in the winter time.<br />
<br />
Thing is, there was no snow anywhere else.&nbsp; Not even on the other
side of the street.&nbsp; As far as I can remember there really wasn't
much of a snow storm on Friday night so I am trying to figure out where
all this stuff came from.<br />
<br />
Anyone have any ideas? <br />

They could have been shooting a TV show or a movie and needed snow.&nbsp;&nbsp; After they made it I would doubt that they would pick it up after the filming was done.&nbsp; They would probably let nature take care of it and enjoy the confusion generated as evidenced by your post.

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Hey buddies,</p><p>I work right off Astor place and have the answer...</p><p>The Starbucks on the corner was having their annual &quot;Christmas Spectacular&quot; promotion thing.</p><p>They had snow made on site that morning, followed by a marching band and a bunch of Starbucks employees dressed in green and red - handing out free samples of the holiday blend coffee.</p><p>CIAO!</p>
