Bye-bye to Howard Stern on the FM. I first heard him on WNBC. When the man was on , he was dead on. That being said, most of the last 18 months have been painfully bad. He looks pathetic in the ads for Letterman tonight.

David Lee Roth won't be that bad, right? ugh

Bye-bye, Howard. Bye-bye.

As a man who got into him in High School, he's such a disappointment. As Torker said, when Howard was on, he was the king. But he hasn't been ON in so long that it's a fucking crime. I can't argue with his ratings, but I know what I find funny and he's not it anymore.

It'll be so great to not even have him on the FM dial. He'll be off in satellite land and since I don't have Sirius, I'll probably never hear from him again. He won't have the FCC to play victim to, he won't have anyone fining him and giving him free press. He'll just do his show and never bother my life again.

He's been the victim for so long, he's not going to have ANYTHING over at Sirius. I heard that hack comedian isn't even going with him to Sirius. That guy is who a lot of fans say brought funny back to the show, and he's not going to Sirius.

Good luck Hoo Hoo Howie. Well actually, no. Don't have good luck, you fucking hypocrite assfuck.

I'd be psyched to hear Howard turned loose on Satellite radio...if it were 1996.

Nowadays he's as edgy as a marshmellow.

I still like Howard, maybe because I didn't listen in his prime (80's/early 90's). His show is still entertaining when he's not focused on one subject for months at a time.

It's weird because I've never cared too much for Howard, although I do enjoy listenening to robin and I think her talent is wasted as Howard's sidekick. again, this is just my opinion. I actually enjoyed Private Parts. Mainly I think because it had a really good director behind it and it turned to be a pretty good funny movie. Like everything else Howard is an acquired taste. Just like O & A you either love them or hate 'em there is no in between with these guys. I'm personally trying to acquire a taste for O & A only because I love Ron and Fez so much and I know they are all friends. but Like Howard I have only been able to take them in small doses. Personally, I'm not going to miss Howard but I do agree with the other posters that Howard has lost his edge. I got that and I only listen to him occasionally. that's it for me. SEE yahhhhhh

I listened to Stern when he was DC 101, and I liked the movie. I sometimes check out his show on E!, but I never listen to him on the radio anymore. I get very sick of his ego. That said... I really don't give a damn about him.

I remember when Stern was on WCCC in Hartford then WNBC.

I loved his show 10-15 years ago. But when Jackie left, then he split from Alison, he became tiresome. I was sick of hearing everybody suck up about how hot Beth is, how he was partying with John Stamos and other C-list celebrities, and hearing him complain about how everyone ripped him off. Did he invent the genre? Maybe. But when you "invent" something, you have to expect people to use it.

What used to make Howard funny was how he was the outsider, the poor married guy who dreamed of being included yet who also took stuck-up celebrities down a notch by asking them outrageous questions. Now he's become one of the people he used to rip on.

I love howard. I listen everyday. He even said it himself on Letterman
that he knows he shows are sub-par, but its not his fault. Those SOBs
at the FCC suck. He wants to push the envelope but he wont b/c he
doesn't want the station to lose its license.
I was a huge fan when he was on DC-101 back in 80/81, and then 10 years later when he was on WJFK. During most of the 90s, my interest in talk radio ebbed and flowed - long stretches without listening to any of it, and then long stretches obsessed with it. Losing Jackie or Billy West, for me, was no great loss. Neither was losing Stuttering John. I found myself enjoying the show less the longer the commercial sets got, after the divorce and following his sudden pro-war hawkish talk, but never-the-less I can't forget the hours and hours of hysterical radio I've enjoyed over the years - it would be like throwing out all of the CDs of one of your favorite artists because their new release stinks. Anyway, in the last year I try to listen when I can (my drive to work is anywhere from 10-15 minutes, so that can be blown out by one commercial set), because I know it's the last year, and (to be honest) I'm almost always enjoying it a lot.

quote:
We're not parroting what O&A say in here, we all have our own stories about the one or two events that drove us from Howard's boring show.
[/quote]But hating Howard seems to be a common threme among the fans. Everyone knows that if you have a bone to pick with the Howard Stern Show, you go to a fansite for a show that's against him - Greaseman, Mancow, Opie and Anthony, Don and Mike - and nine-times out of ten, the stories of why people have been driven the way are very similar, and many of those have been expressed by the rival shows.

I respect what Stern has done and is still able to do when it comes to self promotion..
I bought Sirius yesterday. So now I can listen to both Ron and Fez AND Howard. I know that isn't very popular around here, but what the fuck do I care.

I listen to who I like... not who I'm told to like. There are people who have the ability to like RF, O&A, D&M AND Stern - I like em all. They all have kicked ass in the biz & they have all entertained me at times. It's cool to see all the followers of O&A and how loyal they are. It really says something about a show that has so many rabid fans. Very cool. But I wish people wouldn't slam others who don't get so caught up in the "pick a side" thing. Ron and Fez do a better and more consistant show than anyone else in my opinion. Thats doesnt mean I won't listen to other shows.

Perrynoid

Perry

Got to agree, say what you want about Stern now...when he was on top, there was no one better. I would listen in the garbage truck from the moment he signed on till whenever he went off. i was a fan, hook line and sinker.

I bought most of the stuff he did live reads for. some learning thing for my daughter, Crucified by the FCC, went to US Open sores...but for me it all changed when I saw his true colors when Sam Kinison died

No matter what he was or has become, he revolutionized radio as we know it. Syndication, like it is now, was unheard of. As someone very wise once told me, it started when Stern went on in Philly and than DC. His GM at the time was the first to ever have the guts to do it.

that being said, tomorrow is a landmark in radio, the end of an era. If he fails or succeeds who knows, but I'd dont care for the guy now, but he had a hell of a run and deserves credit for a lot of the things we take for granted on the air today. Not all of it like he says, and I now about Steve Dahl etc.....just listening to him religiously for all those years.....you didn't realize what was truly happening at the time

Tomorrow will be weird, I might actually get up early to listen for the first time in ages. I might not ever hear him again after that....not gonna lose sleep over it, just odd

Staples

I loved the Beaver Breaks. I remember his first appearance on national news when he protested outside Channel 5 when they pulled the reruns of Leave it to Beaver - I remember him calling his wife to see if she was pregnanet - I remember buying "50 Ways to Rank Your Mother" at Penguin Feather - I remember God calling in giving the weather - I remember the tv commercials which had a little kid Stern.

And then years later and he's on WJFK, his 2nd syndicated market after Philly (and before L.A.) - Ben & Ray Stern, Channel 9, Jackie, Baba Booey, Butt Bongo, Crucifified, both of the E Shows, Alison, the books, the book signings, Capt. Janks, Hank the Angry Dwarf, Beet, High Pitch, Jessica, the movie, the MTV awards, Cabby's fights, Miss Butter Face, 9/11, and Artie, who was a good addition.

Sorry for the confusion...I meant that
as a joke cause Howard said the phrase "last of a dying breed" about
1500 times in about 10 minutes....

Why don't like 30 of us chip in for a Sirius account and then stream it to each other? The more people we get, the cheaper it can be.

Or someone please link/stream me. I 'aint payin to hear HooHoo's first shows but I would love to hear them. There is no hack for Sirius. Howard will have no internet feed and it will not be on DishNet.

The funny thing is, there's a hack for XM on DaveTV but I pay out of principle. I saw some of the pics from the show. Newsday estimated
about 10,000(and 8 fat,spit covered O and A fans). I was surprised by
the large turnout. Considering the weather and impending strike, plus
Howie's fading poularity that it would be a few hundred. The radio show
sucked, except for Artie's speech. Once Stern left the studio the show
was shredded up and cut short by a montage of music on "Free Radio" at
about 10:01. Yahoo had great coverage. Helicopter shots from above.
Anyone who says the crowd was small was lying, helicopters don't lie.

Back then, Stern did "Beaver Breaks" - A short bit/parody of leave it to beaver that was pretty raunchy even by todays standards. BTW -

Aren't today's standards more strict than they were back then?

Howard did "unclean Beaver" segments for the "50 Ways" album, which I always thought were very funny, but today I'm afraid to go back and listen, just in case they are really dated. I did find a file of Howard's very first KROK show, from 1985, and listened to that Friday night, and that was pretty cool. Back when he was still poor, Robin still contributed, his wife, parents and parents in law all did the show. It was interesting to listen to the aftermath of what happened at WNEW then, and them talking about how grateful tobe at KROK. Cool stuff.
