using a Rebel XT with a 17-85mm with USM and IS as well :)
I almost went with the 20D, but with the 5D and some other cameras
coming out I figured I go with one that I might stand to lose less
money on when I trade up. I may stay with the Xt for a while because
3,500 is a lot of cashola for a camera when you don't make any money
from the pictures. I think it's like any audio nut who buys a
5,000 Amp, but at least with the camera you can pretend that you'll
have a bunch of cash selling stock photos or something, heh

Good choice on the lens Eddie. The camera is only as good as the lens in front of it.

My next thing is to get a 580ex flash unit. They are real nice.

My Photo page for Upstage Magazine, many pics taken with Rebel XT; various lenses, including a cool fish eye, click on 'Poem Henge' or 'Dramarama at RetroMedia' to see that lens at work. The SLRs are great for astrophotogrpahy, I spend nights out taking pics of stars and moon and one day the Zeta Reticulans

Upstage Magazine

Hey Joe, since you seem to be one of the R/F photo pros, which current digital camera would you say is the best out there right now. Money isn't really an issue, I just want a versatile camera which is small enough to take on the ski slopes and has the right amount of Megapixels and zoom for normal picture use. It's a little confusing out there since there are a ton of new digital cameras and I haven't a clue what to look for. Nikon (with Nikor lenses), Sony (with zeiss lenses), Cannon, Olympus and others??? Lost in a sea of digital cameras!

Spoon....If you want to use any camera on the ski slopes, it had better be Damn durable or Very cheap and disposable.

Here is a nice web site

http://www.dpreview.com/

The site is very thoughrough wich can complicate things more of course.

also try
http://reviews.cnet.com/Digital_cameras/2001-6501_7-0.html?tag=glnav

If your looking for snapshots, & not super serious photography then anything 5Mp or above will suffice just fine. Next look at the lens...GLASS is the key, Not some cheapo platic thing, Try to avoid Telescoping lenses, the ones that prtroude in three or more stages from the slimlines. They are mechanically complex and will not take any bumping very well. Viewfinder should be optical if possible, I almost bought a sony DSC-H1 which is real nice specs, But the viewfinder is a mini LCD and is Brutal on the eye's.

CNET"s Video reviews are real good, but try to get out to the stores and see them for real.

Olympus is nice because the have a line of camers with interchangable lenses and the lenses are far less expensive than nikon's or canon's

You really need to first decide if you want to use a "Point and shoot" or a "Digital SLR" A hint...if your going to shoot in bright light in snow, than you will want to use a polarizing filter to cut out the glare.

So whatever you choose should have a type of lens that can take a filter's on them. Also the BEST place to look for Inexpensive filter's, batteries, and accessories is EBAY.
