I don't like most wine really. I'll enjoy a glass or 2 in mixed company. For some reason I don't drink wine but it's the one drink I'll drink socially with.

My brother in law drinks wine from a coffee cup. If you have ice in your wine there will be no questions asked. Plus, just enjoy it whichever way you want to.

I'm not a bad person, I just do bad things.

Actually, there are some pretty good wines that now use twist tops.

Ice in wine is bad. It noticably waters down the taste. Are you putting ice cubes in red and white wines?

Agreed Mikey. Twist tops aren't as classy as a cork, but then again the come off a lot easier and wont ever crumble into the wine. Plus they keep air in just as well as a cork, which is what counts.

There is no need to ice your wine. It's just silly. Put it in the fridge, or if you're a Fancy Man, so many people are drinking wine these days you can get a small wine fridge cheap and just stock it with your favorite wines.

Plus they keep air in just as well as a cork, which is what counts.

i saw a program a week or so ago and they said that once the cork has been removed and some air gets in that that air begins to adversely affect the taste. they then had a device that can be bought and it fills the opened bottle with some type of gas that preserves the wines flavor and recorks it.

here's a good article on wine

Dubious claim No. 2 Costly "reserve" wines are better
Why it's bogus Labeling a wine as reserve or grand cru supposedly signals higher quality, but the difference between these and "regular" wines doesn't appear to be worth paying for. In 2001, French researcher Fr‚d‚ric Brochet asked 57 wine experts to taste two bottles of Bordeaux, one fancily labeled as a grand cru and the other clearly marked as a ho-hum vin de table.

In fact, the same wine was in both bottles. But the experts gushed over the "grand cru" and dismissed the "vin de table" as weak and flat. It was like the old college party trick where you give one kid nonalcoholic beer all night and see if he acts drunk.

Another study, in 2005, asked nearly 400 wine drinkers to sample reserve and regular versions of the same wine. Surprise! Just 40% could tell the difference. What's more, of those, nearly half preferred the regular. In other words, only a fifth of the people would actually have reaped any benefit from paying more for the reserve.

I always add ice to my wine, knowing anyone watching is going to disapprove but I don't fucking care. I like my wine COLD and I'll shovel ice into my glass at a restaurant no matter who's watching. Fuck 'em. I like shit colder than the norm. If snooty assholes can't accept it, fuck em. I'm obviously not English, I don't like shit warmed over and I won't apologize for it.

Ahh no problem with ice in the wine; throw in a couple of cubes to keep it cold, no problem.

I worked in liquor stores for years and the wine snobbery is just so... eeeechhhh. It's a damn bottled with fermented grapes, people go all Giamatti in 'Sideways' over this stuff, I love to read the wine ads for the discount good stuff for $200 a 750ml bottle.

I guess some are into that whole thing, but I think most people drink for one simple reason; to get drunk. Taste and all that stuff is nice, but for me, vodka is vodka, a shot of smirnoff and a shot of stoli do indeed go down differently, but for ex-bingers like me, it was always just about gettting ethanol into the system.

My wife puts ice in her wine too. She likes zinfandel and we used to get it in gallon bottles with the screw top from Carlo Rossi, but they stopped making it. Now we buy it in boxes and empty it into the glass bottle because she prefers that. To the purists who will only drink it at room temp. I can only give as an example that in Ireland or England when they are having their Pints of warm beer, they probably scoff at the idea that we can only stomach our beer if it is frosty cold.

Not all wine is meant to be drank at room temperature! Besides, room temperature in the middle of summer in the south is a lot different than room temperature up north in the winter. Here are some temperature guidelines.

* Best red wines; "big" red wines: 59 to 61 degrees Fahrenheit, 14 to 16 degrees Centigrade.
* Lesser reds, rose, and "complex" white wines: 50 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit, 10 to 12 degrees Centigrade.
* Less complex white wines: 46 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, 8 to 10 degrees Centigrade.
* Sweet white wines, Champagne: 43 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit, 6 to 8 degrees Centigrade.

Whites should be served chilled and Reds a little cool. If you don't care about the flavor and balance of the wine, why are you drinking it? Just get a nice super sweet wine cooler and pour it in a glass

If your drinking jug wine or box wine, you might as well put ice cubes
in it because it usually has a chemical aftertaste from the natural
tannins in grapes and the sulphites they add. You can get a perfectly
good 750ml (bottle) wine for the same $ you'll spend on the gallon jug.
There's some nice Australian and South American wines that are good
quality and inexpensive.
