I love her, but she's nuts.  This is our 6th Christmas together and at least 4 of them have resulted in brawls.  This years is unexplainable.  We both agreed on cutting back on the holiday spending since we are going to Aruba in February.  We agreed $100 or so.  One of my co-workers won a iPod shuffle in a raffle and was going to sell it to me to give to my wife.  I told my wife about the shuffle to make sure she would like it.  Early last week, my mother in law mentioned that my wife saw something at the jewlers that she loved.  I went to the jewlers and the jewler who knows my wife, shows me what it is.  A diamond pendent of a little girl( we have a 17 month old daughter).  I bought it and it was $300.  Feeling that this was a nice gift,I gave the shuffle back to the co-worker as I felt it wasn't needed.  I also picked up a pair of PJ's and slippers from Victoria's Secret as a gift from our daughter to her.  Christmas morning.  She opens the jewlery, and is estatic.  So happy, here I am thinking that this would be a good holiday.  About 5 minutes later she asked where the shuffle was.  I explained to her the circumstances and she went ballistic.  Called me cheap.  Said all I care about is myself.  Literally hasn't uttered a word to me since X-mas morning.  Ladies:  what the hell did I do wrong? Her father had passed away during the X-mas week 10 yrs ago, so I understand that this will always be a tough time for her, but she's literally a miserable person.  

Trust me, it won't hurt.

Everytime I "grow balls" it results in something bad happening.  9/10/01.  Huge brawl.  I lay down the ultamatums, say everything I wanted to say.  Next day she goes to work at 7 WTC.  I don't hear from her for 2 days.  She was all beaten up in some hospital.Another time, I ripped into her and put her "in her place" and 2 days later she is diagnosed w/ a cancerous brain tumor. Luckily she is fine now, but those 2 things really put a scare into me.  

Trust me, it won't hurt.

Don't let her blame you for fucking 9/11! That is fucking stupid!I'd recommend a divorce. It's probably not going to get any better. She's not going to become sane at this point.

Once you get married, the woman is in complete control of the situation. That's pretty much a license to say "Hey, you take over, I give."So you're gonna have to sit back and take it if you love her, or ... well split and feel years of reprecussions financially. Would choose the former.

I agree with what TJ says.   You have every right to be happy yourself.  If being happy means working through your problems with your wife, then by all means, do it.  Just remember that it is a two way street, and she needs to make an effort as well.  If things aren't changing any, then you should consider moving on, for your own sanity.

OK, at 9:15 last night the war ended.  She explained why she was mad, and it kinda makes sense.  Try to follow this... Whenever I want something, I just get it.  No grief from the wife, I just get it.  She rationalizes it by thinking well, he's a good husband/father, he works hard, he deserves it. She saw my actions of returning the shuffle as well she could only have one gift.  Jewlery or the shuffle.  She went out of her way to make an awesome dinner on X-mas for my family, and she feels she is always considerate of me when she makes decisions, and that when I was deciding on her gifts it never occurred to me to just get both gifts cause she deserves it. Sensing an end to the battle, I quickly added that I thought there was a $$ limitation on how much we were going to spend, but saw her point(realizing that I plan on getting the PS3 when it comes out).  

Trust me, it won't hurt.
