Oh man, I was reading the first part of your post and wanted to see the happy people, so I turned on Fox News and saw the headline that only one was alive. Then I continued to read here. That's fucked up for those familys.
I called my friend and woke him and his wife out of bed to tell them the good news. I knew they were following the story. We were all pretty happy about the good news. Needless to say, the good news has turned to crap. These 24 hour news channels are like fucking vultures for a story.

The mining company is saying that they never said that 12 miners survived. Reports had said that the mining company has confirmed that 12 had survived. The owner of the company is blaming a miscommunication between the command center and the rescue team. The owner of the company is saying "I don't want to point fingers." I know what that makes me think.
Let the blame game begin
This was like the worst game of telephone ever. The rescue team tells the command center who tells the mining company who tells the families who tell the media that 12 survived.
Did anyone see when some lady in a car yelled at Anderson Cooper, "They're all liars!" I THINK she was talking about the mining company.

From what I understand, the initial report was that the miners were found and that their vitals were being checked. The command center and communication dropped the ball. Big time.

Hatfield blamed the wrong information on a "miscommunication." The news spread after people overheard cell phone calls, he said. In reality, rescuers had only confirmed finding 12 miners and were checking their vital signs. But what leaked out to anxious family members was that 12 were found alive.

"That information spread like wildfire, because it had come from the command center," he said.

Link

Its weird too, because the governors own brother had died in another mining accident years ago. mislead people about this info? It was obviously a miscommunication,
and a cruel one for the families. Why would anyone think the Mining Co
or Rescue team would lie about it?

People always will grasp at whatever seems like a glimmer of hope, and react as these people did. Its the reason why the government (usually) will never give out the full story, even when they know it.

they say officials knew 15 - 20 minutes after the "alive" announcement that 11 were dead - mine officials waited until 2:45 ish to tell the families the truth.(3hrs). Members of the miner's family were told The MIners are ok, and will be up here (to the church) to see you soon.

Anderson Cooper was almost sleep talking on CNN - earlier he kept saying "man i am tired" - then when the story broke, he looked ill. He did a good job. Yes, I saw them yell from the car "their all liars" -

That may all be
true, but when did the officials know that the story was misinterpreted
to mean "alive". I doubt they had CNN on and were fairly busy with the
rescue effort. The fact that a erroneous story took a few hours to be
responded to doesn't surprise me at all.

Someone who has
escaped blame here, who I want answers from the most, is the
regulators. I dont expect the Union or management to solve these
problems, thats why we have regulators in the first place.
