because no one ever appeals a life sentence.

Firstly, wouldn't there be less of a percentage of life sentences being appealed since some of them have pled down to a life sentence? I mean, no one is pleading down to a death sentence so I guess you can count on nearly 100% of death rowers appealing. And secondly, isn't the appeals process more lenghty for a death sentence?

seems kinda redundant, NJ has had the penalty but hasnt used it since, i think, 1976; seems suspended indefinately already.

first they suspend the death penalty, then they expel the death
penalty, and then the death penalty has to take the GED and then it can
get a job out in the real world and start paying taxes.
It says it right there in Hbox's original post that there hasn't been a person executed since 1963.

Legal costs for the lengthy appeals process.

Wait, so its better that we let people who have killed other people live because it is cheaper? What if someone finds a way to make it more expensive to keep killers locked up for life than to kill them? Will the same people who are for "life" then decide that capital punishment is the better way to go, or is there morals at play here?

I say someone should find a way to make it more expensive to keep someone alive in jail for life, and see what happens.

NJ: Home of the leftist hippy Democrats.

Everyone should just be shot on the streets and put up on spikes. That would deter crime.
