The sort of place where you can go on a Friday night, get some drinks, maybe
some small comedy club style food, lounge about, and hear some good jazz.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Is the Village Gate still open?

I say sweeping the pockets of the Dutchman was not Mob business!

i haven't been there since they moved to chelsea, but kavehaz is really cool, low key with good apps, full bar and desserts -- plus no cover

then afterwards, check out smalls

.

Cafe Jules, on St Marks in the east village. Kavehaus on 26th below 6th ave is good in Chelsea

Knitting factory is really good too, downtown in Tribeca.

The old Sweet Basil is now called Sweet Rhythym on 7th ave near Bleeker.

List from WBGO of area jazz clubs 82 listings

There's a great place in the Village called 'Smalls'. Like most jazz clubs the musicians would show up around 3 am, after waking up, or playing other gigs-- then hang out and play all night /morning. At that hour, they're just getting warmed up.

I don't know if it's still there, but Mikeyboy would know. ( I think HE is the oracle. sshhh...really..)

smalls is a really cool place. every other place cost an arm and a leg. go on the wbgo website. also on mondays, there's a jam session at local 802. If you're a die hard jazz fan, go check it out. it's free.

One Step Down on Pennsylvania Ave is also a good Jazz club.
