I started out thinking the storys of Bush being an idiot were made up by his opponents to weaken him politically, but I have been coming to the conclusion that he is indeed a mental lightweight and his cabinet must also be as well. As far as Iraq goes, since I have friends that are servig over there and hear about all the good things our troops are doing that never get any press, I think it is a disservice to say that everything about Iraq is a waste. Very often, it takes decades to see the true effect of a military effort. I also know that our enemys will like nothing better then to see the pubic at large not support out miliraty, because it serves their own interest. We should always respect our military, even if our leaders do not use them wisely. People talk about how it could come to pass that a "draft" could become a reality, and while the draft does not exist at this time, if we do not support the military, nor encorage people to join on their own free will, it could eventually return, since the nation does need defending regardless. I will not say that the Iraq war is a failure, because we do not yet know if our presence there will make an important historical impact. Like I said, it takes decades to know the true effect. Im sure I'll be attacked for saying this, but we do owe it to our own survival as a free country to support those that are giving us this great sacrifice.
In my opinion, we went to Iraq as a way to get their either access to their oil or to set it up so that we benefit from support from those that control it. Wether you admit it or not, we all benefit from inexpensive energy. The US has the strong market share to command energy at cheap prices because we get it in bulk discounts. Our military might ensures this. I dont mind people attacking Bush politically, but dont attack the military!

Its not just the "cheap oil". Oil lubricates the machine of our culture, wether you believe it or not or agree with it. Every aspect of our lives in influenced by it, and it obviously is the reason for these policy decisions. Of course, Id like to see this dependecy reduced or eliminated. In fact I work for a company that offers its product as an alterantive to oil. But as long as the vast majority of this country is dependent on oil, these types of events will occur. Again, its wether you like it or not or agree with it. I dont want to see anyone die for this shit either. But Im not going to hide my head in the sand and pretend its not important either, nor cheapen the sacrifice of those that are in the military willingly to protect the state we are in, and who fight as best they can safeguard its continued existance. We all aught to take whatever steps we can to eliminate our dependece on the mid east and its resources in our daily lives. As long as we have this tie to that part of the world, this threat will exist. It hurts us in every way possible. Environmentally, ecomonically, and domestically. We need to rely soly upon our own resources and let that part of the world starve for our money.
