I always thought that it was a forum where you 'confessed' to doing something you regretted (in some cases deeply) without fear of judgement or reprecussion, basically to get it off of your chest or maybe get a little helpful advice..  A certain thread though has recently proven that this is not the case at all.  So whats the deal?Thanks.

Actually, "That's Life" was the one originally set aside as a
serious forum.  Sadly, that seems to have gone by the
wayside.  I love how threads get derailed and how we all tool on each other mercilessly, but I always thought it was cool to have just one place on the board where people could be open and honest and not be goofed on.

So if I want to talk about something shitty I did without getting ripped a new asshole, put it in the "Thats Life" Forum.  Otherwise, go to the "Confessional".Gotcha.

Not rubbing it in or looking for sympathy but I did post my thread there because I thought that's where you do post that kind of thread. It just taught me to post less and less truths or be as open as I once was. Live and learn.

In theory, "That's Life" is supposed to be the forum where people post "serious" topics...death, family issues, etc., etc. for people to offer support or discuss.  We attempted to have a stringent and, quite frankly, overdone policy of review there, and we've pulled back.  We'll keep an eye out for things like people blatantly and mercilessly mocking or attacking someone going through some serious issues, but for the most part we hope and assume that people here will act like adults.The Confessional is not, nor has it ever been, a forum along those lines.  I'm not sure how that was assumed, especially since the forum used to be named after Billy friggin' Staples!  The Confessional is just for people to "get things off their chest," major or minor...but with the idea that what you're saying there can and often will draw out strong responses and opinions.  In short, think before you post.And please, don't assume that "That's Life" is some magic cure-all and you can post whatever you want and expect nothing but smiles and pats on the back.  Case in point, Reef's thread about sneaky-sneaking.  Yeah, maybe if you had gone in there and presented it as, "I'm having a real crisis of conscience, this is really bothering me, I don't know if it's right, blah-blah-blah" instead of having a tone which is, quite obviously, bragging about what you did.  That's not the point of "That's Life."  The forum is meant to be for people who are feeling very strong feelings (negative feelings, to be honest) and they're looking for support.  Reef did not present anything even close to resembling that tone in his post.  It sounded like he came on proud of what he had done, and it arroused strong feelings in people that don't share his sense of morality.  To be frank, THAT'S life.  And expecting that posting that thread in that forum is supposed to "protect" the thread is almost essentially abusing the forumSo hopefully that clears things up...the Confessional is where you to go to unload whatever you're hiding.  "That's Life" is the forum where you post the stuff that's seriously bothering you...emotional crisis and the like.  Both are wisely served by, as I said above, thinking before you post.

Y'know, I thought of a much easier way to explain all of this as opposed to all of my balbbering above...OK, the forum used to be named after Staples (personally, I wish it still was).The reason for that was because of Staples' frequent "confessions" on the show.Now think of how those confessions were often taken or responded to, by people on the show or listeners.That's what can, and is almost expected to happen in this forum.

Either way- I am glad its clear now- The Confessional is open season (though not to me- anyone who has the courage to confess to mostly strangers something they feel terribly about, I will have the compassion to lay off), and that's life where you be nicey nice.  Again,Gotcha.... someone i guess should have told Newport King.

Gotcha.... someone i guess should have told Newport King.Well...sort of.  It really would have only been the right forum if he was in anguish over the whole thing.  As it stands how he started talking about it, this was definitely the "right" forum.

That's not the point of "That's Life."  The forum is meant to be for people who are feeling very strong feelings (negative feelings, to be honest) and they're looking for support.  My only suggestion for clearing this up as there was confusion on my part and others is that perhaps make a post that explains what the "that's life" forum is for, and one for "the confessional" and make it a stickie. I know there is the description "Life weighing you down? Trouble with relationships? Vent here. We'll all try to help." though I think a stickie would further clarify things. Just a thought. Mojo, as for my thread I had no problem being criticized about the moral implications of my actions, I realized after that I messed up by presenting it in a smug way to try and be comical and hoping others would go along with the gag. I further tried to steer it that way by playing around with FP. It was a mistake on my part.

though he shouldn't have been pussy <whipped- haha> to get a cat to begin withagreed.i posted in this forum because i thought it was the right one, and i still feel that way. mind you i don't mind getting ripped apart, i feel i held my own in the debate. people have strong opinions on the matter and i respect that. i did feel 1 person in particular went way over board (not moe) and after a few pm's either its resolved or i'm no better than hitler in that persons eyes. either way so be it. it's a messageboard, my own advice is don't post here if you have thin skin, i realized what i was getting myself into when i wrote it but faceless strangers opinions of me won't make me sleep less at night. i encourage sharing with the group, its always good to hear different points on different topics. the view on that thread alone are ridulous and alot of people had good viewpoints on what was going on. i'm going to start a new thread later tonight about an abotion i had when i was a 13 year old girl to shake things up again.
