We have all seen them, probably even bought some. Probably even use them every day! Im talking about non traditional electronics. Products like Sanyo, Jensen, Kobe, Curtis, Emerson and the like. Of all of them, are there some that in your opinion are deserving of being elevated to "name brand" status?

I've many things from Sanyo that were decent. I've never heard of Kobe. The worst is Wal Mart's Durabrand.

I think Coby is the best of the bunch quality wise.

I would say Emerson should be elevated to name brand it's everywhere & their stuff lasts forever.

What, no fucking Goldstar? I had a Goldstar TV that had to have lasted 10 years. And even then I only got rid of it because I moved up in tax bracket and got myself a nice Sony flatscreen to replace it. The TV is still working, at my parents' house, I believe.

Since most electronics, from "no name" to "high end" brands, are probably manufactured in the same small set of Asian factories, I'm not sure what distinguishes them anymore except marketing. Maybe quality control.

That said, I'll recommend Vizio if you're looking for a big screen flat panel TV. I bought my Mom a 37" LCD model for Xmas and it's pretty damn good. I got it from Costco and it was about $1,000 cheaper than similar models from the name brand companies. And it seems to be an American (well, California) based company as well, although I'm sure the TVs are built elsewhere.

Is zenith considered a brand name. I think there is room for argument but I had an old zenith TV and it lasted for a long time. Right now it is being used in a rectory.

I generaly can't mess with off brand electronics. I'd rather pay a few bucks more now, and have the stuff last for a while. 2 Philips flat screens, 2 JVC 5:1 systems.

Washer, dryer, refrig, micro, all GE. and all running for over 10 years!

AC - Freidrich, MP3 - Apple,

The only thing I cheap on is Korean computer parts.

And Apex DVD's. I scoop them up at $25@.
