They&rsquo;ve been having marathons so I've been catching up, it&rsquo;s the real life story crab fisherman from I think 5 boats who go out near Alaska to the Bearing Sea&nbsp; to catch crabs for a living, it&rsquo;s the kind of job that is very hard though they only really work it like 2 months and that accounts for almost their entire years salary, it&rsquo;s pretty much 24 hour shifts during that time in frigid waters, some of the guys get injured, some even die (though I haven&rsquo;t seen that), though it&rsquo;s amazing. I knew about the show though I didn&rsquo;t think I&rsquo;d get into it, but once I started watching it I was hooked.</span></font></p><p class="MsoNormal"><font face="Arial" size="2"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: maroon; font-family: arial">It&rsquo;s amazing, it&rsquo;s these guys lives and if it&rsquo;s slow they suffer, and if it&rsquo;s busy it&rsquo;s a lot of work.</span></font></p><font face="Arial" size="2"><span style="font-size: 10pt; color: maroon; font-family: arial"><a title="http://www.thedeadliestcatch.com/" href="http://www.thedeadliestcatch.com/"><font color="#800080">http://www.thedeadliestcatch.com/</font></a></span></font>

I am totally hooked on this show now...I started watching the marathon this past weekend and I am looking forward to the next eppisode.&nbsp; These guys have to be some of the hardest working guys I've seen just so we could have our crablegs, they rock my boat! [wacky horn]

<p>the worst is when they have to sledge hammer all the ice off the boat. the work to get the pots ready and&nbsp;in the water is hard/tiring enough, nevermind chopping ice for hours on end. plus it's got to be slippery as hell not only for their footing but for holding anything...</p>

<p>i've been watching since last season its a pretty cool show, fucking insane what they got to go through just to catch some crabs for us to eat</p><p>there's about 90 boats but we only see about 5 or 6 on the show </p><p>i dont know if anyone else noticed but when i clicked the info for this week's episode it said the corneilia marie loses a life, so all episode i'm waiting to see the unlucky shmuck who bites it and no one did thank god but what the fuck all that happens is one guy gets his ankle pretty fucked up but how can you put that in the info for the show when it isnt true&nbsp;</p>

I lost my father in September to the same thing that Phil has. And Pop was a whole lot more healthier. Shit sucks.

The show is awesome though. I love watching it. I didn't see any new Greenhorns this time though. I guess all the boats had a full enough crew. As for the "search and rescue" thing.....I hope it is no one that we have been watching over the last few years.

im trying to think back to what ships have gone down over the past few months.

Season 5, Episode 2 – Aired: 4/21/2009
Red Skies in the Morning
It's week 2 of the season, and boats are hunting down the elusive King crab. A vicious storm kicks up and a Mayday goes out. The Skippers are glued to their radios - waiting to hear the fate of 11 brother fishermen in distress on another boat.

Season 5, Episode 3 – Aired: 4/28/2009
Stay Focused or Die
The fleet is still dialing into the crab, and already a typhoon has taken its toll. A boat has sunk -- and bone-chilling accounts of the fate of its men relay around the fleet. As soon as the weather clears, the skippers of the Time Bandit, Cornelia Marie, Wizard and Northwestern send their men right back to fishing. On a crab boat, there's no time to dwell on tragedy. Hauling and setting pots is treacherous work and if the crews don't stay focused on their work, they could die.

Season 5, Episode 4 – Aired: 5/5/2009
Put up or Shut up
It's week four of king crab season. Seven souls have perished, but the fishermen soldier on in the hunt for crab. Gruelling hours and vicious hazing test the Greenhorns, and some start to crack. On the Wizard, the rookie fights to maintain dignity as the deckboss shreds him to the core. On the Northwestern, Jake Anderson gets a shot at running the hydro, and learns that operating them puts the lives of the crew in his hands. The 78-ft Lisa Marie also arrives with something to prove. The smallest boat in the fleet has a young crew with some mighty big mouths. For all of these newcomers, it¹s time to put up... or shut up.

its on the skinny side of the trap and it has like wires to raise it so they cant turn themselves to be skinny enough to slip out. Something like that.

so the SOS goes off and it takes 7 hours to get there. i know there's a lot of ocean to cover. makes that an even shittier job (being out on the water, that is).

whale wars is fucking terrible.
its the story of a bunch of eco-green loons that harass the shit out of whaling vessels around the antarctic. the dood who founded the group was kicked out of greenpeace because he was out of control (at least thats how they tell the story).

every time i saw a commercial for this, or actually watched an episode, i would pray that they would hit an iceberg and go down in 12 minutes.
if you feel like watching something that will make you throw shit at the tv, then this is the show for you.

The boats I like following the most are the Time Bandit, Northwestern, and the Cornelia Marie. They are just the most entertaining, in a good way. One thing I've noticed about the Time Bandit- they always seem to be making out like gangbusters but they have a smaller quota and always haul less crab.

the wizard was always my favorite boat, as opposed to my wife's, the Time Bandit. One thing I always loved about keith was that there really isnt play time on the boat. or if there is, they dont show it in the final edit. keith was always a stickler with safety, as he should be. i cannot imagine what he is (was) going through knowing that they got hurt because he sent them up there.

my fave boat is the wizard. of course, the time bandit is always a good time, but its just something about capt. keith that traps me...

Keith is awful and makes HORRIBLE decisions, before and after the accident. That rope trick under the boat, the extra crab pods in terrible weather (even dumb ass Phil said it wasn't a good idea), the tarp and sooo much more. In fact, now he's going the other way too much and hurting their season even more. I just can't see him as a captain one bit, bc he's not ship smart and has bad instincts.

its like any other industry. few of the players bicker back and forth. nothing to write home about. the drama looks good on tv.

Bad blood.

Phil went to retrieve his pots and found keith has set his own pots right on top of Phils and I quote "pot for pot for pot for pot for pot for pot". Phil gets on the radio to keith about it, Keith claims he didn't do it on purpose, noticed it after a few and that the tide basically tossed all the rest of his pots on phils.

Keith says Phil is overreacting, then Phil makes the point Keith does the same exact shit when anyone gets near his pots and then they cut to video from last season when someone was fishing near Keiths spot and he was freaking out.

Phil was in the right. He was fishing that spot long before Keith. Keith came up out of desperation and bogarted on Phils hot spot.

well, season is over.
i have questions about the boat on the beach, which maybe no one but those 4 can answer.
the boat is on the beach, sitting on land. it cant sink. why are we not staying in the wheelhouse, warm and out of the storm, until it passes to be rescued?
unless the boat was being dismantled and was unstable on its own frame.

Your last point hit the mark. The boat could have turned on it's side in heavy surf at any moment, along with eventually being broken up (quicker, rather than later). They surely had a much better shot surviving the heavy pounding surf via the protection from the boat, along with timing the wave pattern as they did. Even with the pot ladder and cable as a guide, two of the men were almost battered on the rocks and than badly damaged would have been swept out to sea.

i did too, and as much as i'd like to see it, i thought whats his name (time bandit capt) was a bit over the line with the "go back to getting your brother killed" bit. time bandit is my favorite boat (yeah babaaaay!!) by far, but i thought he was outta line......helluva shove though....keith woulda got worked if he came back swingin, which i think he was a pussy for not doing....he cocked back and held it like a wimp.

but yea, that did look real as shit......keith fell into a whole mess of garbage. Clearly Keith said somethin though and i'm betting he knew he deserved it....when they interviewed him on the boat before they shipped off and he was like, "oh well people say stuff to each other all the time when they're at the bar together...doesn't matter which boat you work for". he probably got hammered drunk one night and started getting loose with his words to the crew of other boats and it came back and bit him in the ass.

I feel bad for Keith. He's a tight ass, but I think he came off looking way worse than he really was in that argument. I'm more apt to believe he was bulshitting with a guy in a bar, and maybe bragging a little about what his boat does, and it was presented to Jonathan in the wrong context.

I think there might also be prejudice against Keith for being a really progressive fisherman. He doesn't seem to have the same family tradition, he fishes in different parts of the world, and he's mentioned being some kind of council member and pushing for more ecologically friendly ways to fish. I'll bet he was in favor of the quota style of fishing over the old derby style that guys liked better.

Jonathan really crossed the line with the brother comment, and being a guy who fishes with his brothers you'd think Jonathan wouldn't go there. It also didn't help that Keith fell on his ass like a moron, and then was 'held back' by Phil, who is obviously a sick man while he called Jonathan names.

I notice the fakeness in how the episode is edited together. They dedicate the string to the guy they medivaced so you know that string is going to hit. The Northwestern is saying last episode "man what an easy season, we're getting out of here in record time." and this episode they make it look like they're super desperate. And the teasing/cliff hangers are really cheap, especially considering you're talking about real people.

They also have Junior fishing blues and it looks like he's just scraping by, meanwhile he's done the highest volume of anyone.

However, I do think it's still one of the more real shows on reality TV. I really believed that the guys all felt bad that a guy they were riding really hard and calling useless had to be taken out by the coast guard.

I tend to think that the Hillstrand's boat is the fakest one.

I also had a feeling that the medivac scene was a bit fake. I mean how else would they have such awesome camera angles. They were completely perfect and never another camera messing the shot up. If it was such an "emergency" I think they would of been a bit more hurried and not be able to plan out every single shot perfectly. It just seemed a bit staged.

It kinda felt like the coastgaurd was working for them. I mean would it be that easy to have clear perfect audio from the coastgaurd corresponding between each other.

As far as the Medivac stuff I felt the actual guy was the one faking not the entire scene. It was just a hunch obviously.

They put a camera on the medivac lift! I'm sure that's normal procedure.

I watched through the whole thing on this social rewind thing after playing hockey last night...and they had a fact that 3 men worked the cams...and somehow had 8 overall running to choose from. I'm assuming being that this is year 8 or so they have things ready for all situations now, and to be honest, that would be one situation they actually should be prepared for. They have flaming fucking hook cam that goes underwater, I'm quite sure a line/litter cam is not too tough. They also noted that it was a cameraman that suggested giving Chris gatorade, not water and through the dehydration thing out there.

I met the Hillstrand brothers on a flight out to Hawaii and those two are both VERY cool and genuine guys. They were big kids in the end and nothing but happy to chill talking to us and hang on the flight. They were heading out for last year's after the catch, and they gave a ton of insight on the Captain Keith hate...which by the way is very fucking real.

The Hillstrands, and Sigs boat are the two that are the most enjoyable for me to watch. The Capt. Keith hate def. comes off as believable. Even during the After the Catch show they had for a while Keith was awkward and off putting.

As a viewer, I hate Captain Keith, so I get it.

while i agree, he's been WAY more human this season and Ness has taken the mantle for me as most ignorant and dicky captain out there

Scott Jr. has earned a ton of respect overall, but this last move seemed crazy in the end
