I think that if I could give up men... that my best friend and I would be an incredible couple...partnership... etc.....  We
have spoken about it millions of times it seems.  But much like
the character of "Shug" in the Alice Walker book... I have some
physical and sensual connection to the anatomy and companionship of
MEN.  And this ends up being the obstacle ...  or the
Reality.  Men are for some reason important to me.. though
sometimes it seems to be merely based on the sexual ... and little else.Anyway... 
to deny my feelings, both emotional and very physical , would be a
betrayal...but I simply cannot commit to this person.Or perhaps, I cannot commit to any person.  Hmmm... where is a good shrink when you need one?  LOL (Don't worry, I am not in emotional turmoil over this... it's life!)

Friday, are you intimate with this female friend of yours?  Women today seem to be much more open about same gendered experimentation in a sexual way than there were years ago.  It might be "ok" to experiment, but the other things you mention tell me that you are more in tune with males for long term emotional connections and relationships, and this infatuation you feel towards females is just a fleeting fetish.

Sounds like you have some searching to do.  You shouldn't let a
few bad relationships give you a negative few of our entire
gender.  If I did that with women and my last few girlfriends, I
would be beyond Fez Whatley gay.  I think its easier to form a
good friendship with the same sex because you know there won't be more
than that.  Or maybe you really do like women better, or maybe you
like both, like I said it looks like you need to learn more about
yourself.

just curious about what prevents you and your friend from committing to each other, is it a moral/religious decision, one or the other is just nervous about making the first move, worried about how you will be accepted in public or by your family and some friends?or none of the above?just curious
