Do you think this is the start of WW3?As a Jew, I realize what I'm about to say is as taboo as it gets, but I agree with Palestinans on a number of thier arguments. The issue of Israel is incredibly gray. Fundamentally, the Jews as a dislocated and massacred race desperately needed some kind of territory to call thier own, a place where jewish people could start over ...rebuild thier decimated population, heal wounds, and rally behind a jewish flag in the name of nationalism and patriotism for a land all thier own. The IDEA of Israel is not a flawed one. I agree with it. The problem is, where do you establish such a place and who's already there that's going to be displaced.And here it is today. The effects of Adolf Hitler resounding half a century after his death is about to plunge us into yet another World War. Two world wars caused by one man. This will only get worse before it gets better. The Iranian involvement will grow, US leadership will look weak if they don't respond, so they'll attack Iran. The arab nations will rally to thier cause, so we'll fight them. Meanwhile the North Koreans are going to want some attention, so they're gonna continue thier aggresive posture. The asian nations will not tolerate it, eventually a missle will fuckign land somewhere or on something that Japan or South Korea doesn't like, so they'll start to war there. China will have to choose a side, hopefully the right one. Russia may or may not back us up, who knows where Putin's head is. It all just spirals from there.So I ask you, do you agree? Is WW3 upon us?

I know WW1's flashpoint was the assasination of Franz Ferdinand, and the US's entry into WW2 was Pearl Harbor. War is a series of escalations, and it's up to historians to create the proper timeline, especially in this day and age of grey.  War was much more simple back in the day. I kind of agree with Furie that 9/11 will be the flashpoint that historians will point to as the start of WW3.  Even though the Israel situation is loosely connected, it's the US foreign policy of taking the leash off Israel which is rolling the snowball faster and faster.

I'm certianly no expert on the middle east, but it seems difficult to slap a WW3 label on any region which hasn't seen any extended period of peace in decades (if ever).  In hindsight, we should have convinced the Jews to set up Israel in the US.  We could have given them one of the Dakotas or something.  Think about it.  It would side-stepped violence and polictical strife, and made one of our otherwise unimportant states into a financial, political, and tourism powerhouse.  If this is the beginning of the escalation to some type of WW, it will be interesting to see what the European nations, which were the center of the first two, do.

I don't think it will be WW3 unless Israel or Iran do something drastic before this whole business in Lebanon settles down. If they do, then we're all in deep deep shit, and I would start telling your loved ones how you feel about them.

Lets also not forget the British tried their damndest to keep the Jews out of Israel in order to protect their colonial holdings in the Mid East...Most of the stuff today in the middle east is all their fault (even before the end of WW2 with things like the Sykes-Picot agreement and the drawing of the boundaries in the mid east and the allowed ascension of the Wahabis)

I love the irony of how Palestine is calling on the US to end Israel's aggression. One way or the other the US CAN be made to look bad. We support the Palestinians, it will damage relations with Israel. But then again Israel does need an ally in the US, however there are new possibilities to be found in a Russian ally. Not very likely to happen, but small possibility. On the other hand, if we continue our support of Israel on this issue, we look like the warmongerers that the world already views us as. There is a historic opporitunity here. One could lead to peace. One could lead to world war. All a generalized statement, I admit, but a quick summary of what could happen here.  On a side note. I love how the press is quoting Spock's line from Star Trek VI: "Only Nixon could go to China..."

I've read many of your messages and know you always side against israel and even america. If memory serves, don't you also hate black people? I'll never understand why war is an answer to any problem. I feel this will probably lead to more war, more countries getting involved, just to stir shit up, drive up oil prices, and try to secure the future for some group of people by grabbing the balls of world industry by securing oil interests.
This idea of nationalism, the importance of having a piece of land for every group of people while thumbing the nose towards every other country, it just gives people scapegoats for troubles and problems that could be solved rationally and through better knowledge of people. Why can't the world just homogenize, share ideas, share parts of cultures, and create a more universal cultural identity? If it's all about religion, and beliefs in God, and the defense of "my God loves me and your God is evil", it just seems like bullshit. I wish we could just follow the great commandment, and just love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.

I dunno, I'm so befuddled about how the world has to operate. Everybody is always on the defensive, ready to be on the offensive. Living in New York, seeing so many cultures living together, blending, melting, I feel that we as humans have so much potential. The world doesn't want to blend and live together. Everyone wants their own country, wants their own culture to subdue the world, it keeps us from truely doing what humans oughta be striving for; living in peace, and celebrating each other's positive qualities. We always gotta revert back to being animals, trying to be the king of the world. It's all so disillusioning. No wonder so many are willing to be martyrs, to die and keep perpetuating the belief in dieing for just cause, for honor.

Tribes war as they claim resources for thier own people. We can't homogenize, it's not in our nature. We are animals. Tribes = packs, packs look out for thier own. It gets even more complicated because there are packs within packs...the religious, the rich, the poor, the black, the white, the smart, the dumb, the popular, the unpopular, gay, straight, athletic and not, fat and slim...it will just never happen. Too much difference. Not enough common ground. Everyone has opinions. Some will kill for thier opinions. Best you can do is do good in the world and die accomplished.

This is a bit off from the subject but,  does anyone think if the U.S. had no interest or limited interest in foreign oil(which should be the overall objective of the U.S.) would anything in the middle east make a shit to us?  It is no secret that oil is the only reason the middle east concerns us.  If we did not need oil, Iran would have no ace in the hole and would not be tolerated one fucking bit!Fix the oil dependency and the U.S. will once again be the superpower it once wasI realize i kinda reinvented the wheel with these thoughts

Sorry Jeff, It was breaking news on CNN & FOX and I didnt think it needed a new thread so I just posted here.  Had nothing to do with your previous post - just putting the news out there.  No point really - just informing.  Since Hezbollah says they welcome WWIII I thought this would be the best thread for my post.

North Korea doesn't have significant oil supplies and they admit to having a nuclear bomb. Iran has oil and they have not. What's North Korea's ace in the hole then? This isn't about oil, it's about war. This country can't afford another, and the american people don't want it.

should I invest in canned foods and shotguns now, but seriously the situation will only contiune the cycle of violence in the region. I agree terrorist governments should be shut down, but the only problem with the situation in the middle east is that while israeli  may getting certain section of hezbollah - weapons and men.  They may be just helping their cause. hezbollah will use the injuried and the dead done by the bomb to get more arabs to join their cause. Hopefully a resoulation is accomplish soon, too many innocents are dying right now

CF,I just watched that video and literally had tears in my eyes at the end.  Excellent work.  You certainly brought up alot of emotions in me that have long been buried.  I think of the feelings during deployment and uncertainty that always lay ahead  I must admit I am pretty nervous about what's going on too.  I watch the news/check the net almost hourly now.  Anyway, for somebody that has not been in the military you have a feel for a bit of the soldier's perspective.  Again excellent work, excellent song choice, excellent sir
