View Full Version : I Think I'm Losing My Hair

Over the past month or so, I've noticed that although my hairline isn't receding it's getting a lot thinner. By that I mean you can see a lot more scalp than before. I noticed this after coming out of the shower with wet hair and looking my car rear-view mirror in daylight. To use a Star Trek analogy -- I think I'm moving from "the Riker" to the "Picard". I refuse to ever do "the Shatner" however.

I thought I had good genes: my maternal grandfather had a thick head of hair until he died at 89 and it was still relatively dark. It seems that since turning 35 last year, my body has been "breaking down" more and more. I mean, I've been to the doctors more in the past 6 months than I have in the past 6 years. And this is just the lastest sign of aging.

What next -- incontinence?

Usually, it's the maternal grandfather that can indicate male pattern hair loss, but who knows?

I'm starting to get a little gray (or grey if you prefer) around the old temples, but as far as actual hair loss goes I have virtually no balding.

I've been pretty lucky. I've got a full head of hair with no balding that I've been able to discern. I also can count the number of gray hairs I've had on one hand. I'm convinced that it will hit me all at once, and that most of my hair will fall out over the period of three months or so, and the rest will turn immediately white.

I started going bald towards the end of my 25th year. I ended up cutting my hair short for the first time in many years a week or two before my 26th birthday. It sucks, but that's life. I'm not vain enough to wear a wig or try some awful surgical procedures, and I don't feel like shaving it it all off. On the plus side, it used to take alot longer to deal with the long hair. Now, I don't even need to blow dry, just spray gel, brush and done.

And to the argument about maternal grandfather, My grandfather passed away with a full, thick head of hair. Unfortunately, I have my parternal grandfather's hairline, who was bald for many years before I was born.

I actually am starting to to lose my hair, and it's increasing, or decreasing depending on your view, at an exponential rate. I can't wait until it's gone enough for me to get a rug. Like an audaciously bad, insut to the intelligence of everyone around me piece; completely non-matching the remaining hair on my head in color; like, you can see the tag sticking out. That bad. It is one of my most heartfelt dreams.

I guess I'm lucky that I still have an incredibly thick and full head of hair and it grows like a Chia pet. There's more and more gray in it every day though, and it makes me sick to my stomach.

I honestly thought I'd be the one to defy Father Time and stay a teenager forever.

Another dream shattered.

Speaking from a woman's perspective, receding hair lines is the new black! Most women (who are mature and know enough) realize the hair-thinning thing HAPPENS. Black guys used to have the monopoly on shaved heads, but IMHO (and many other women's opinions) bald white men are sexy.

::insert pic of BOBO::

Funny story, I went to a Peter Murphy concert back in 1999 or 2000. He turned around on stage and I saw his bald spot. Ironically, it was almost the exact same pattern as my then fiance's bald spot. Long story short, I went home and practically raped my fiance. He was barely awake.

Yeah, ok, the marriage didn't last, BUT he got major action that night. All because of a bald spot.
