I will be visiting the city soon and although I've been several
times I was hoping someone could recommend some hotels for someone on a
budget since money is a little tighter right now.

Any
suggestions anyone? I don't really care where I stay and would
even by willing to stay off the island if the neighborhood is safe.

I'd like somewhere cheap but I don't want to stay in a shithole because I am a fancy man so cleanness and safeness will win out.
Try the "Love em and Leave em" Hotel on 135th street and Lenox. Local hookers say its the best place around.
check CLUB QUARTERS on 48th street i think and there is another downtown. the rooms are small but they are super clean and cheaper than others. i do alot of construction in hotels in NYCand 99% are disgusting. stay away from the Hotel Penn, HOJO's, Radisson-lexington. if you dont get a room at CQ let me know what places you are looking at i will tell you if they are clean.

UN Crowne Plaza is decent and has good rates sometimes. I've stayed there several times when I was too drunk to get home.

I wish I could help. The only time I've ever been to NYC, I stayed at the Milford Plaza... 22 years ago.

I'll admit, I was amazed at how small hotel rooms are, there.

The W Hotel (Times Square). There are 3 W's in NY but I like the one in times square better. Its in the heart of midtown and walking distance to allot. The rooms are expensive $250-$350 a night but there really nice and in the lobby they have a really cool lounge that becomes like a club/ lounge at night.

I know the cheapest room I ever stayed in was $150 and that was at the milford plaza along time ago. I should have just drove home that night because I thought the place was a dump and I live only 15 minutes from NYC but I was too tired.

If, and only if, you're feeling adventurous stay at the Hotel Carter on 42nd(I think). Very cheap and alot like playing Russian Roulette, great fun.

OK, I'm looking at the Shoreham in Midtown West and the Park Central NY Hotel. Anybody know about them?

I might just suck it up and pay about 30 dollars extra a night to stay at the Plaza at the UN as a safe bet.

I just stayed at The Herald Square Hotel in midtown, on west 31st between broadway and 5th, 2 blocks from the empire state building, very close to lincoln tunnel. It's $98 a night for a queen bed. They have wide flat screen tv in room and a really nice marble bathroom. a/c that works. You get your parking validated for the garage around the block at $21 a night.

http://www.heraldsquarehotel.com/

very clean place too. i loved it and am making reservations to stay again.

I just would like to state for the record that I have very, very fond memories of a night I spent in the Hotel Pennsylvania and I didn't find it to be dirty at all.

Anyone ever heard of the Omni Berkshire? They have a special on their "Deluxe King" room for like 200 bucks a night.
