Yeah I know some of you...or all of you will hate me for this, but it is what it is.

Everyone I work with has Sirius (you know where this is headed don't you), and they have been raving to me about the service since Howard moved over. Meanwhile my XM service on my Roady2 has been getting steadily worse all around where I live. And it isn't just me. Even Amy's RoadyXT is spotty in the same areas. And I don't mean spotty for a second. Sometimes it is spotty through entire areas for several minutes at a time to the point that there is no signal whatsoever. I've always been curious if Sirius's service would work by me plus really since he came to Sirius I've been listening to his shows off and on via illegal means and I've grown to like his Sirius shows. I finally decided about a week and a half ago to get a Sirius reciever, I signed up for 3 months and I have to be honest. I fucking love Sirius radio.

Howard aside, Sirius's radio content alone is far superior to XM. For starters the music stations are really great, the music offerings are good and the songs work really well off one another as they go from song to song, as though the song lineup was actually thought through as opposed to what I get on XM. The music stations also have real DJ's with great personalities and they are clearly professional DJ's who probably have roots in regular radio because they are good and slick. Amy recognized one of the DJ's from WPST in Philly so I'm guessing they have pro's working their stations.

The channels are also not scattered everywhere like XM is. The channels flow from Music to Howard to Comedy stations, to News, Kids, Misc stuff, and then Sports. The other day I listened to Jim Breuer's Raw Dog show and he was broadcasting live from Caroline's Comedy Club with Artie Lange, Todd Lynn, and several other comics. The comics were doing covers of their favorite comedians materials which was actually a pretty cool concept. It seems that Sirius is dedicated to comedy too, they feature many live gigs, Howard has numerous live roasts that they broadcast. There's 2 channels for him which feature replays and west coast editions of his shows. There is just a lot of really good things on Sirius that are impressing me about them.

Overall my impression is that Sirius is definitely on the ball content wise, their technologies are getting better and better. I got the Starmate pictured below and it works excellent it was very easy to install and activation was a breeze. The Sirius online player is just as good as XM's as well. Right now I really feel like I'm getting my moneys worth with them. If Ron and Fez switched to Sirius I feel like I'd drop XM all together. Okay...start the bashing.

Ive listened to Howard's Sirius shows on the Down Lo and what Ive heard is unlistenable. I only listen to XM now for O&A/R&F so I could give a shit about the rest of the platform. Ironically, I bought XM because they had more political talk. I had never heard O&A or Stern until I got XM.

From what I understand Breuer will be doing a whole month of live shows with other comics from the Stress Factory every wednesday and those shows will be broadcast on Sirius. To me that is very cool. Aside from O&A doing live shows with awful audio or R&F doing the live broadcast from DC on employee appreciation day you don't really hear too many live events on XM. XM did the Live 8 concerts which were cool but I wish there would be more of that kind of thing with music and comedy shows.
Contrite is appropriate, consideirng how vocal you have been about XM, but it's pretty cool you stepped forward - I think "traitor" is a little much, unless you really do consider yourself one of General BAM's legion.

If R&F were to leave XM, I think I would still keep it, but they are the major reason I got XM in the first place. I would love to find out how many Sirius subs also have XM - I get the impression that quite a bit. I know few people who only have Sirius.

If you love sat-rad and have the means to do it, I don't know why you wouldn't get both services; they compliment each other very well, imo. For Stern, old Howard tapes + the roasts are well worth it right there, and if you enjoy his new stuff (which I often still do), then it's a no brainer. The DJ/noDJ thing is just silly and smacks of kool-aid drunkeness - Fungus has DJs all over the place, and most of the ones on Sirius are some of the best the business has ever had.

ALL of that said - my ipod is still the center of everything in my world.

I has Sirius for over a year in my car. When I sold my car I left the unit in the car and bought XM. I had XM for less then a month and cancelled it. I'm now going back to Sirius.

I have two xms a mifi and a roady xt both of them have great signal. AS for content I'm sure sirius has good stuff as does xm, its all a matter of how you go out and search for the content. If you want to prove whats better its all subjective. This whole thing reminds me of when I was younger my Deadhead friends saying how great the dead was and how everyother band sucked. Then the acid wore off and Jerry died and now they like Pearl Jam and System of a Down.

I think "traitor" is a little much, unless you really do consider yourself one of General BAM's legion.

That's why I put it that way, I love the shows and I love my XM as well. The traitor label was more of a light jab on my part towards those kinds of folks.

I'm certainly not going to call you a traitor. Your assessment of the music programming on one platform or another shouldn't be based on the fact that there is talk programming on one of them that you like. It sounds like you were objective and free-thinking in your decision, and for that I applaud you. Myself, although I enjoy XM, I would switch to Sirius in a heartbeat if Ron & Fez jumped. I would probably maintain one of my XM subs though, because my daughter has her own radio and is really into the XM programming for kids.

I thought about this some more. I really don't understand the whole insane loyalty thing to a satellite company. Granted, I fell into the "XM is better than Sirius" opinion along with some others just based on the fact that XM has O&A and R&F. Since I'm studying to hopefully get a career in radio, I've gotten more objective. I don't think its a bad thing if you prefer one company over the other for the services that you want, because that's what it ultimately comes down to, right?
I just love radio in general so for this is great to be able to have both services and be able to hear whatever I want plus my ipod as well.

HEy dude, yo i agree with everything you said(meaning the thread starter), I mean i love ron and fez and Opie and Anthony....but i think sirius is the better company, i love the metal channel on sirius, they play REAL metal not like the shitty liquid Metal, they have amazing rock stations, comedy and stern isn't as bad as everyone says he is, i like listening from time to time mostly to hear artie lange, and sal and all those fucktards...I so wish you can mix and match, i'd put rf, oa and all the metal , and rock channels and the 80s station is ten times better then the xm one. I got sirius in my car and it never has static, my friends xm always sounds like shit. Thats why i only listen to xm on my pc.
