I'm not talking about because they suck or you hate them. We've all sat through bad songs before. It's not that big a chore.

I'm talking about songs that you can't listen to anymore because they just get to you. Like for example, I can't listen to certain REM songs anymore because I associate them with a certain person. Yet, tonight, I was reading the lyrics and misting up a little.

Specifically, I used to own "Up" but I had to sell it because I just couldn't deal. I also don't think I could make it through the song "Country Feedback." I can still also barely make it through "A Reminder" and "Lucky" by Radiohead. Ditto for "Letter for Elise" by The Cure.

Hole-- Live Through This

It's a great album and me and my best friend listened to it all the time when it came out. Neither one of us have been able to listen to it since, maybe, 1998.

Yes, we both realize that perhaps Kurt Cobain had a hand in it.

I find myself not able to listen to a lot of the hardcore/emo music that I use to listen to in college. It's hard to admit but when I listen to that music I think back to a time when I was really excited about the world. I had excitement, freedom and hope for the future. Now as I type this from my cubicle I realize that I have lost almost all of that excitement. I really wish I couldn't listen to this music b/c of a woman or friend who left me but really it's because of myself and what I feel like I'm becoming.

OOOOOOOK terrific way to share these feelings with total strangers.

It's weird, I actually really hate listening to some music for the exact same reason, and I also really like listening to some music for the exact same reason.

Actually, i meant for this thread to not be for songs that you're just sick of because they've been played to death, but ones that are just too emotionally painful to listen to. But whatever.

The last time I listened to Radiohead's "Kid A" I had taken X, and I was listening with headphones...it sounded so amazing that I knew it would never be nearly that good again (and I don't even like Radiohead that much). I could see the sounds swirling around my head. I should have taken Gail's advice and not done drugs.

Back when it first came out, "Portrait of an American Family" by Marilyn Manson used to be my favortie ablum. A few years later, I stopped listening to it entirely out of principle.
* Almost every track from "Rush Of Blood To The Head" by Coldplay.

* The entire "Eternal Sunshine" soundtrack.

EDIT - On account of them being too emotion-inducing, not from being old or overplayed.

angst-ridden rock of the last 10 years. I might've been an angry kid,

quality music or anything. Blegh.
The same goes for Genesis (all incarnations), Meatloaf and Billy Joel. I never get tired of any of those artists.
