A new study shows a worrying link between poor sperm and the number of hours a day that a man uses his mobile phone.

Those who made calls on a mobile phone for more than four hours a day
had the worst sperm counts and the poorest quality sperm, according to
results released yest at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine
annual meeting in New Orleans.

Doctors believe the damage could be caused by the electromagnetic radiation emitted by handsets or the heat they generate.

I have a cell phone. I never have sex. How does this benefit me?

Does anybody else think this study might be skewed? I mean the same guys who spend 4+ hours a day on a cell phone are usually the same type-A douchebags that work long hours, have immense stress in their lives, and generally suffer from "lifestyle-related" ailments (high BP, high colesterol, etc.). You could probably change the assertion from "4+ hours on a cell phone" to "60+ hours in a work week" and have exactly the same results.

LSS - It's just as likely that other factors are responsible for, or at least contribute to the problem as much as, cell phone use. It sounds like spurious science to me, at least based on that article.

I'm with MadMatt on this one. It reminds me of a study a few years back that found people who drink 6 or more cups of coffee a day have a high rate of lung cancer. Therefore, coffee = cancer, right?

Well, upon further review, they determined that people who drink 6 or more cups of coffee a day also tend to be heavy smokers. Who woulda thunk it?

Now would that be a news story?

Nice to see that there are a few people left on this planet who can still think. Any study without a control group and using the "double blind" method is completely worthless.

Remember that the next time you hear "People who eat blah blah have a 25% lower rate of getting such and such disease" Unless you can factor out genetics, lifestyle, environmental factors, etc you cant get any meaningful results.

Where's Mike the Teacher when we need him?
