I was just reading a thread and saw an Anime avatar, i don't know why but i got really angry. That made me think of people i know who watch and love Anime and i kind've got more pissed off.I don't get it at all, the only Anime i ever watched was Cowboy Bebop and that was maybe a handful of times, that might even be a stretch(also assuming that CBB is Anime at all).What's worse are the hardcore fans, the ones who actually want retarded Japanese nicknames and wear the crazy, noisey fashion. I know to each their own but seriously, they are fucking weird and obnoxious.

I have to disagree with you, at least in part.  I agree that the "extremists" are annoying and that there is some really crappy anime out there, but there is also a lot of really great anime.  Just like there are crappy American movies/shows and great American movies/shows, there is a wide variety of quality in anime.I enjoy the fact that the Japanese have used animation to create entertainment for all ages and for almost every taste available, not just the kid's cartoons that dominate American animation.  The artwork and attention to detail are absolutely incredible in some of the productions and the complexity of the storylines can rival that of the best live action movies.  Plus, it's hard to beat the action and fluid motion of many anime movies.If you want to see a good example, check out "Princess Mononoke" - it was released a few years ago, but it is a beautiful film artistically with a solid story to back it up.And, again, I'm not trying to "sway" you.  I just think it isn't fair to judge all anime as crap.Hey - if you don't like it, it don't make you a bad person  <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/bye.gif" border="0" />

I've never really gotten into anime, but I do love Cowboy Bebop.  I haven't watched it in like a year or two, is it still on Adult Swim?

The only thing more annoying and nauseating than Anime is an Anime fan explaining to you why you should be watching Anime. They always claim that the stories are so awesome and the art is spectacular, but that can never overshadow the fact that you are watching a creepy cartoon.

I saw Princess Monowhatever.I just don't get it. Part of me feels like maybe something is going over my head but the other part of me is like "well you're not 5 anymore, cartoons are bullshit".I guess the detail they use can be seen as beautiful? I'd rather watch actual humans act, even if it has to be badly than stare at flashing colors and listen to cooing music for 2 1/2 hours.

MadMatt made many good points. The storylines in some anime series are amazingly complex and compelling. I really haven't bought anything new in many years, but I still check out whats new in Chinatown.

It's definitely can be pretty intimidating, but it's just like D&D, or larping, Star Trek, Comic Books or anything else involving fantasy worlds.  For some, it's about the mythology, the creativity behind the fantasy worlds, the warriors, the creatures, and appreciating the minds who came up with it.  For others, it's the intense animation, and realism (not in content but in appearance), the visual aspect of it that fascinates.  Blood, violence, and nudity that you don't get with American animation.  But again if you're not into any of the pasttimes I mentioned earlier, then you're not going to get Anime.

Just like other cartoons, there's lots of Anime stuff that sucks.  But there's also some of it that's OK.  I'm not a huge fan of it, but I do like Cowboy Bebop and some other stuff I've seen that's Anime.It's all right in my book.Plus, I think the "Fanatics" of ANYTHING can get annoying.  Just balance it in your life, don't make it your life.

i am not acting obsessively, if i was i would be posting here nonstop about it, every post i have made has been after something you said, and I am just responding to what you have written.   AH yes pull the female card which makes absolutely no sense in this argument as most of the people I know of who watch anime and are hardcore into it are females, most of the men I know laugh at it because like you said it is cartoons and nothing more. Not actually.I'm a self proclaimed nerd. I'll read everything and anything having to do with Mythology and folkore amongst other things.I don't however, respond well to people telling me that i probably don't like something because i "can't understand it". That implies that i'm mentally incapable of learning and that said person is a condescending douchebag.You said you'd never try to push it on anyone but the tone of your posts regarding Anime are somewhat overbearing. Maybe that's just how they're coming across to me anyway.I couldn't give a shit less about the line structures in the sword when it cut through Yasohiba's head and the brilliance of the red the used to highlight the blood.Being overly into a cartoon, any cartoon but mostly Anime is creepy.

If someone is interested in something, i wouldn't find it odd. Everyone has their own tastes. If i knew someone who was a fanatic of Mythology, yes i would find that weird if they weren't pursuing it as something more than a hobby.People who watch Anime are typically fanatics. This is from what i've seen and dealt with on a personal level. I hate Anime, everything about it is unappealing.

I enjoy the japanese toonage.  I remember when it was impossible to find it in stores and shit, and you'd find friends who had videotapes they got from flea markets and shit.All anime means is it's a japanese cartoon.  No more, no less.  It's the extremists (aka otaku) who just take it way too far.  I appreciate the art styles of those artists because they come from a different background and have different influences.  It's the same reason I'll go to a museum and look at paintings or read a book.  To me it isn't about where it came from, it's about whether I'm watching something with a compelling story and good art.

It's odd, I could never really get super into Anime. I've watched plenty of it and enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say I loved any of it more than other things. And I'm usually really into fantasy. It's the opposite of why Ron said he hated Lord of the Rings - it's too far removed from day to day life - I usually like things that are as removed from day to day life as humanly possible. But sometimes anime just gets to be too much. Like a friend who loves Fullmetal Alchemist was explaining its plot to me the other day and I had to suppress the urge to just say "Come on! That's stupid!" But on the other hand, I like FLCL because it is so ridiculously absurd. But I think it's because the absurdity in that show is used more for symbolic purposes about dealing with adolescence, etc.The art I don't know about. I've watched shows that have been done in that style since I can remember like the adventures of Belle and Sebastian. So I'm sort of used to it I guess.

One thing I'm completely NOT a fan of and won't link pics to is that really fucking sick Anime porn where like 20 penis tentacles rapes a girl.  Seen shit like that and some very gory, violent stuff from them too.That shit's gotta stop.
