I have been having bad pains on my knees for a few years, and assumed it was from weight gain and lack of activity. But I remember being 50 lbs lighter and far more active and still having pain.
I told my Dr and he sent me to an orthopedist. He X-rayed me and looked me over and found I am slightly knock kneed. Because of the malalignment of my knee caps, I get pain from repeated stress and impact to the joint. Going up or down stairs, or even easing myself into a sitting positing hurts like a mother fucker.

He prescribed me to wear knee braces, and I have been wearing them for a month or so, but they kill me and make my legs get numb and swell up because they are so tight. I am in constant awareness of my knees because of the braces and the pain in my knees. I told him about it, and he recommended cortisone injections into the joint to speed the healing process.

He had me sit on my hands on the table, and then he sprayed my knee with a frozen gas, and then injected right into the knee joint. I thought my knee was going to explode from the pressure!
He didnt do both, but wants me to come back next week for another injection into the other knee.
When I left the Dr's office, I had trouble walking on the leg he shot, and I could barely make it down my steps into my apartment. This was 4 hours ago.
But I just went up the stairs just now to get something from my car and I cant believe how already that knee feels 100% better.

Has anyone else had cortisone injections? How long does it last? Do you have to keep getting them?

I have chronic tendonitis of the right arm....it would get so bad that I couldn't make a fist and once I had to wear a sling....I just couldn't move the arm without incredible pain!!!!

About 10 years ago...it got so bad I actually went to a Dr.....and I hate those bastards....

Anyway....he sent me to an orthepedist who instantly diagnosed me....gave me a cortisone injection right in the elbow....worst pain I ever had.....I really couldn't move my arm after that!!

The next morning...I hop out of bed .....do what I got to do....then notice....my arm is moving normally with absolutely no pain.....that lasted for about 4 months...went back for another injection....some physical therapy....and haven't been back since....just a slight twinge now and then....but nothing like in the past!!!!

Good luck to you and hope you feel better!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope it lasts and I have your luck reeshy! Id hate to think about surgery, and I have been looking online, and for this particular condition (portello femoral malalignment), I have not seen much that says surgery is a cure. I hope a few simple injections do the trick. I really need to be able to move without pain and go up and down steps and whatever. It's like the day I hit 40, I hit a fucking wall! My bodys falling apart.

i need a knee operation that i will never have done. it would require 6-8 weeks of being off of my feet which would mean not going to work. never happen. i get a hard sharp pain in it at times and at other times it gets so stiff that it hurts to sit or to stand or to walk. It is from years of abuse and working outside in the cold and the rain. i also get the same pain in my right shoulder. again, i never have it worked on.

Stugots,
If you have insurnace from your job that covers it, it might be a good idea to take care of it. I know you are worried about work, but dont they give you compensation, especially of its an on the job injury?

This is an interesting treatment. I may have to look into it

A few years ago I was walking down steps outside my place. They were covered in black ice and so I lost traction, slipped and drove my left knee into the concrete. Ever since, it hurts like hell when I keep it bent for an extended period of time so I'm constantly having to crack it. That feels and sounds wonderful. I

t turns out my kneecap isn't aligned properly and the impact made it worse.

What's the difference between the procedure you had and your standard aspiration?

Im not sure, since I do not know what aspiration is. Either way, it was a little stiff this morning, but right now I feel like I can run a marathon.. On the Right leg! Next week I get the left knee shot.
